  1. My guess is Scott Moore. With a chance the Cubs go after a David Bell type stopgap.
  2. I'm sure Jason Isringhausen still wants to be a starter. What about Bill Pulsipher? He is a lefty.
  3. Who thinks Baker is going to have trouble finding another team to manage? (outside of maybe San Fran.
  4. I mean, Derek Jeter isn't exactly good glove calber at SS, either (regardless of the overhype the New York media gives the player), and yet all he does his play a solid SS, and produces. If Moore can show he is atleast adequate at SS (in time move over to third, if need be), then he could move up faster.
  5. Yes they were. Three weeks ago they were the favorite in the East.. Gotta disagree. The loss of Damon really hurt that team. Not as much as you think. Had Coca Crisp stay healthy, I seriously doubt you would have made that statement. IMO, losing Damon pretty much had no affect on the season. Now losing Jason Varitek (the heart and soul, the Captain) to injury, now THAT was a major blow. You can replace what Damon brought to the team, but you couldn't replace what Varitek brought.
  6. Personally, I would like to see if the Cubs can acquire Scot Shields. If the Angels didn't have this F-Rod guy closing, Shields would be their closer. And NO, I don't support Wuertz for closer, simply because closer are ask to work anywhere from 2-4 days in the row (depending on the smarts of the manager) and Wuertz has yet to master pitching solidly on back-to-back outings. So, I prefer to leave Wuertz as a middle reliever.
  7. Maris doesn't hold any records. /technicality police II'm going to go with stitchface here, and say....that Maris still holds the record for most LEGAL homeruns in MLB.
  8. Heck no, I don't want him to get used to losing.
  9. Wasn't this the same guy that after he was dealt to the Cubs, said he prefer the NL style of ball over the AL? So, isn't kind of odd that he would initiate a trade to an AL team? Wants to play for a contender + no NL contenders have an opening at 1B = Nevin taking what he can get. Plus Nevin really being a DH and the NL not having the DH. I still find it odd.
  10. I think he was drafted as a SS. The reason why he was moved to 3rd, was because of his errors. His bat was/is there, but there were questions about his ability to play SS. So, the Cubs are restarting the experiment of Moore at SS.
  11. will not see much time, if Baker has anything to say about it. So, figure on seeing "The Superstar" Henry Blanco for a MAJORITY of the time, cause dude, he's "earn it."
  12. You know why Howard is the best POWER threat in baseball right now? Home: .294 .399 .624 1.023 (24 hrs and 65 rbis) Road: .308 .392 .656 1.047 (25 hrs and 64 rbis) I was going to argue that Howard has been help by playing in a HITTER'S ballpark, but then I look at his splits on the yr, and he's just as dangerous on the road. I will go out and say, that Ryan Howard SHOULD be the 2006 NL MVP. I know some writers will go for Pujols because of the "name", but ultimately, I think Howard is having a better season. Now I realize Pujols was on the road to a "career" yr this yr, before the injury, and it would have been fun to compare Howard to Pujols had he not gotten injuired, but you deal with the hand you are dealt with. So again, Howard should be the 2006 NL MVP.
  13. Wasn't this the same guy that after he was dealt to the Cubs, said he prefer the NL style of ball over the AL? So, isn't kind of odd that he would initiate a trade to an AL team?
  14. Reid is already a fan favorite here in Central Alabama. Evan continues to be mess with because of his name. Evan has had trouble putting the ball in play since being call up to AA, but he has shown some outstanding power. Jeremy Owens is a decent OFer. Jeff Neiman (Newman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) or whoever you spell his last name is prolly the best overall prospect on the team. No disrespect to Longoria and Brignac.
  15. Full Article CLASS! You don't hear a lot of players leaving bitter. Who wouldn't want to play in Wrigley in front of great fans... Jacque Jones? LaTroy? CPatt? Hell, Sammy probably wouldn't be too keen to come trotting out again. Alfonseca? Estes? Taverez? The fans in Chicago will see through a phony.
  16. And people said that David Eckstein shouldn't play sports because he was so small, or not toolsy enough, blah, blah. If Theriot can play, like him play. You never know what Theriot can do, unless you give him the opportunity to play. So, yes, I like to see him be seriously considered to start in 2007.
  17. You can't predict that, because there are so many varibles to take into account. But if I had to guess, I would say......Brandon Webb.
  18. Let me ask you everybody here....is Maddux lying with his statement?' It should be a slap at Hendry for the fact that he preached "guys who can catch the ball", and yet Hendry still went after Pierre and Jones, who are both considered at least average---atbest---defensive OFers. And while, Dusty gave Maddux a throwback barb, the fact is...pitchers in general need good defense to be successful, not just Maddux. So people are giving Baker WAYYYYYY too much credit for his quote.
  19. If by chance, the Cubs won't reupped with the D'Jaxx is there a particular city/team that has been linked to the Cubs?
  20. Those are numbers that the Cubs like.
  21. And the person in the stands goes while for this meaningless game. This doesn't help the Cubs chances at catching the Royals. But to see Rich "Benny" Hill throw a heck of a game, Matt "Red Skelton" Murton continue to show he can be an offensive asset to a team, and Ryan "Quiet Riot" Theriot showing he IS the next David Eckstein, maybe the Cubs future ain't as bleak as first thought. But then again.......
  22. The Cubs start a pivotal three game series against the Giants today. If the Cubs continue to play inspire baseball, then this should be a great sweep for the Giants. We need Dusty at his best for it to work. Come on Dusty, make these strange, and unlogical hunches from the gut backfire. We need every loss we can get,
  23. 1: Nevin is more valuable to a contending team, then to the Cubs. 2: Wiith Lee back, and Mabry as back, not to mention Pagan/Pierre/Murton/Jones in the OF, Nevin had no place on this team. 3: Nevin would not re-sign with the Cubs to bench a bench player. 4: There are rumors that he is a real-life version of Jack Parkman. (Major League 2 bad guy) I say that because there are rumors that he has an ego that doesn't sit well in the clubhouse. 5: Trading Nevin opens up a spot for a player who might have value to the Cubs..
  24. :-s Do we want to know why you think that?
