  1. I prefer Flush as a hint to what to do with him at the end of the season, but his name is flexible in describing his tenure.
  2. Also, I want to see Derwood's head explode when the Blackhawks get the first pick again with only a 0.3% chance this year.
  3. Both Wembanyama and Bedard are going to be everything they were hyped to be.
  4. I don't remember seeing anyone in this thread who is upset by this. Certainly all of the people on the past few pages aren't arguing against the move. The most negative emotion shown is "meh, whatever. I'm happy it looks like they'll be spending." The majority of those that seem "negative" are just arguing that the article is vastly overstating the impact of the move, guessing it is more like a half-win to a win better as opposed to a 10 win improvement.
  5. If we're picking 2nd and 4th, how would we get locked out of Williams/Maye? I figured we'd end up with one of those two and then either MHJ or one of the tackles.
  6. I guess it depends on your time frame. After the other shortstops started going off the board, there was a lot of speculation out there that the Cubs preferred Swanson. Heck, you could look up the thread on here if you don't believe it. One of the wonderful things about the internet is that everything stays out there for later review. It's like those replay commercials. Anyway, there was rumor to be interest from his side from the very beginning because of his wife's association with Chicago. There were a few early rumbles about the Cubs possibly being interested, but things started getting more vocal in the media as the other shortstops picked destinations.
  7. I thought you wanted to spend on Seager a few days ago. Now we've done well at shortstop?
  8. Sign a better pitcher than Taillon? Sign Robertson instead of Boxberger?
  9. They're saying it is a bad read *for him* if he can't make the throw. Still poor decision making.
  10. If I could lock that in today, I'd do it.
  11. I'm just hoping Juan Soto uses the same number as Geo so I can pull that jersey out of mothballs
  12. Ah...the new offseason megathread. 😀
  13. he's not the first pitcher to have $100m come off his value because of TJS in a contract year.
  14. I think it's inaccurate to say that the Cubs don't play at the top end of the FA market when they just signed Swanson to a 7/$177m contract last year. That may not be the tippy top of the market, but that's pretty close top of market. They've also run a top 2-3 payroll in the recent past. I understand the hesitation here, but I think it's being overblown by some.
  15. Well...if he's referencing the psychology of large numbers, he's correct. If you're like most people, there would be virtually no difference in your reaction if $280M showed up in your bank account tomorrow vs $1B showing up there. They are both basically incomprehensible amounts to the human brain. I think he just goofed, though.
  16. I think TT feels the same, which is why he wants to hold him for a year to let that value increase (or move up to the top tier)
  17. I love this article from Brett about the signing: https://www.bleachernation.com/cubs/2023/11/07/juuuuuust-a-reminder-that-big-market-teams-are-supposed-to-do-things-like-this/ I couldn't agree more.
  18. The main thing I got from the list is just how crappy the FA's are this year.
  19. My first reaction is that I'd have Alcantara two tiers higher. I'll come back with more thoughts later.
  20. I'm most upset that he didn't lean on Little more than he did. Yes, he had control issues, but no worse that Cuas. If he used some of his other assets in the pen, the primary guys may have held up better.
  21. Vientos
  22. If you're trading for Alonso, there's really no point in keeping Mervis. Even if it's just for a year.
  23. I'd be fine putting Mervis into a trade for Alonso but have zero interest in an extension
