  1. There's the argument to get the best players and figure out the positions afterwards. After all, somebody would be capable of playing first base in that scenario. I still like the idea of converting Soto there if he's willing. But Happ's got the infield experience to do it. Morel almost certainly could play 1B (though his arm would be wasted there), etc.
  2. I hate that I always have a moment of confusion when discussing Zach G's on Arizona
  3. If those are the prices, then give me Bryce Miller. The difference between him and Gilbert isn't worth PCA & Brown, imo. Miller throws a full tick slower, but he's a year younger, has two extra years of control and has otherwise similar FIP metrics. The other concern is the fly ball rate, but Gilbert's not exactly a ground ball machine, either. I think I'd rather just pay Yamamoto, but I can understand preferring to go in this direction for established MLB performance + salary difference. For me, that preference may just come down to whether or not Stroman opts in or not.
  4. Holy crap - 7-1 in the second still?
  5. So - who are the elite prospects in next year's draft?
  6. Just the first two you talked about above, or all <checks latest score> five goals so far?
  7. The rumor is that the reason SD can't sign Soto is because of MLB's debt ceiling rules. In order to sign Soto, they'd have to move one of their other massive contracts. It's much easier for them to just trade Soto since he's the one that is a pending FA.
  8. Do you still say this if we traded prospects for Soto instead of Morel? I believe you said earlier that you'd trade prospects for him. Is that not the case any longer?
  9. How much would people be willing to trade for Jake Burger? He's not a perfect match for Morel, but he's pretty close. Bigger power, less patience, similar defensive challenges, similar amount of control, etc. Would anyone shape their entire offseason based around Jake Burger?
  10. So we beat Kansas and don't even get credit for it? That sucks.
  11. So it isn't adding Soto that's the problem for you, it's trading Morel? If the trade could be accomplished with farm players instead, would you do that? Also...just say no to trading Alcantara for one year of Alonso

    NFL Week 8

    Boooo!!!!
  13. Oops - forgot that one
  14. That pick shows why it's so hard to run an NFL offense with a QB that doesn't have the arm to keep a defense honest.
  15. Keep getting those xbh
  16. If he had a bigger arm, he wouldn't have played D2
  17. Illinois is off this week? That'll be our best result in a while.
  18. Depending on the nature of the screen, that could be either good or bad.
  19. He cannot be stopped
  20. Every team has wild pitchers that stay wild. Do all 30 teams ignore correcting this issue? Or is it maybe that that easily teachable? I imagine your response is going to point out that you're acknowledging a "wide dispersion of ability in terms of accuracy". But your OP on this topic was heavily implying that the Cubs simply choose not to address this at all. The Cubs actually have a lot of smart guys focused on pitcher performance. If this was a flaw that they could knock out in a few sessions, they'd do it and then move on to the next item.
  21. Can you show your notes on this one? I'm genuinely curious why you think this is true.
  22. He's athletic enough to play it well, too. I'm not sure what the hang up is there. Someone call Tom Emanski
  23. Let's say AZ is at 4 and 12. Bears are at 1-2. They offer both of their picks this year and next year's first for #2. We can take our pick of QB's, still get the best or second best non-QB in the draft, another blue- or near-blue chip this year, and another first next year. Dumb not to do that.
  24. The Giants made their GM/HC moves at the same time we did and their results match ours. Are we sure they're competent?
  25. I think this current iteration of the team cares most about pitch shape, pitch mix lending itself to tunneling, and other attributes like that as opposed to a simplistic "command > velo" philosophy.
