If you think that Williams is a true generational guy like Peyton or Luck, then it could still make sense. Especially to reset the rookie time clock. I am not sure I agree with it, but I can understand the logic.

That's pretty firmly within the range of variance instead of being indicative of some underlying factor. There's a lot of confirmation bias. Once someone has decided a manager stinks, there's never a shortage of things that don't go right to question the manager about. I didn't read the article because of the melodramatic title, but one of the primary pieces of evidence I've seen is the actual vs pythagorean record in 2023. However, the team had a positive differential in 2020, 2021 and 2022. They were small positive variations, but if there were some critical failing in Ross' approach, it should show consistently.

I feel like the first throw of the game was on Mooney, who got a bit turned around. Maybe the throw was over the wrong shoulder, though. One of his other targets he was absolutely mauled without drawing the penalty. Otherwise, yeah, Fields just missed him a couple other times.

btw - I'm not making things up with the Soto trade. The rumors of his availability are supposed to be originating from the SD side of things. I've seen their beat guys mentioned as a source on twitter, but I haven't seen the primary reference.

First basemen haven't gotten $400M contracts. That's true. Neither have left fielders, being one spot up the defensive spectrum. If you are okay with him making $400M as a left fielder, then you must be okay with him getting around $350M as a first baseman.

After a good 10 or so minutes of thought, here's my preferred offseason (due to change many times): Trade for Soto, start training him to play 1B immediately Sign Yamamoto Pick up Yan's option If Stroman opts in, let Hendricks walk If Stroman opts out, see if Hendricks would take a two year deal at lower cost Sign 2-3 actual, living, breathing relievers with their arms still attached firmly If there's still money in the budget, re-sign Bellinger Have Morel take infield practice at 3B every day during the offseason That gives: C - Gomes / Amaya 1B - Soto 2B - Hoerner SS - Dansby 3B - Morel / Madrigal LF - Happ CF - Bellinger / Rookies RF - Seiya DH - rotating SP1 - Yamamoto SP2 - Steele SP3 - Taillon SP4 - Stroman / Hendricks SP5 - Assad / Wicks / Brown / Horton / Smyly relievers
