Well, they did think they'd have about 4-5 more pitchers who all got hurt at the start of the year. The bullpen looks much different in April / May if even just Hughes & Keegan are healthy / effective. Then much of the depth guys they were counting on had issues of their own like Estrada's implosion. They had 12-13 pretty decent options - unfortunately that just wasn't enough.
Given the results, I wonder how much of the lack of walks is because of chase versus how much is because he's just mashing everything in the strike zone.
One way or another, there's going to be adjustment required as he continues to move up.
There is also the matchup to consider. All things being equal, I'd rather play SF/Miami than Philly. But in the above scenario, I'd probably save Steele and hope for the best in game 162
