  1. So the ankle injury was enough to drop Gallardo from #1 to #8? Hearn went from #2 to out of your top 20 in two months?

  3. I'm trying to understand relative levels of competition here. Would this be akin to Lebron playing in NCAA right now or is it not quite that bad?
  4. I've got to go with Christian or Brennen as the most disappointing this year. Hodge wasn't in many top 10's that I recall.
  5. Which was still an improvement on last year. More seriously, he threw it away from the defense and put it where only his receiver could get a hand on it.
  6. He just may be a dude
  7. Every QB's numbers only look good if their receivers catch the ball, run after the catch, etc. The comment is true, it's just...unnecessary.
  8. Heck, that's not even true. A lot of the credit there is the timing of the play call and anticipating what the defense will be doing at that point.
  9. That play is about 85% blocking, 10% Moore, 5% Fields.
  10. I like it - probably the best of the national updates that I've seen
  11. I think it's a false dichotomy to suggest it has to be either a success or a failure. It is a sliding scale. Let's say it ranks from -10 for abject failure to +10 for a world series victory. If they play a lot of exciting baseball down the stretch but come up short, I'd say that's probably a 3-4. If they play a lot of meh baseball down the stretch and fade out of contention early, it's probably a 0 or a 1 to me. It could be a little less depending on why they sputter. I'd guess that's the range I'd find myself in personally.
  12. We always wanted Adam Dunn. That may be Caissie all the way down to the red hair.
  13. From a tools perspective, he may be the highest upside we have in the system. He has age on his side, he's been performing other than during his first exposure to cold weather, he plays good defense in CF...there's an awful lot to like. I'd have him in our top 3-4 very comfortably. How I order him, Shaw & Horton varies by day.
  14. That isn't fair, either. He was a clear priority signing as a UDFA in a five round draft. Some scouts are tepid, but others are pretty upbeat. There are definite mitigating circumstances on the age, though that is still a concern and limits the long term upside. I don't want to go into next year with him as the only option at first base. But I do believe he would probably be "fine" there if other roster issues were prioritized.
  15. It makes me sad that you ignored my earlier post. Mervis has done well in AAA, but he hasn't clearly shown that he's "mastered" the league.
  16. It should be more, but they kept swinging at pitches out of the zone after the reliever had walked three straight guys on 12 pitches to drive in three runs
  17. Fangraphs is more of the outlier, I believe. I haven't seen position rankings from other services, but FG has Mervis much lower in their Cubs rankings than anyone else. By a lot.
  18. I'd like to point out that Mervis, while doing very nicely at Iowa this year, isn't exactly destroying the league. His 132 wRC+ ranks fifth amongst players at Iowa with at least 100 PA. Morel destroyed the league. If Mervis was putting up a 170 wRC+ at Iowa, he'd be getting another chance. Right now he's doing less than Mastrobuoni and Jared Young did there. I still like Mervis, but to force his way back into MLB he needs to hit more.
  19. He sure as heck wouldn't play the OF for us. And I'm not certain that he's a better hitter than Morel at DH. Not sure I see the point.
  20. It took me a while to remember that the full menu is only accessible through the hamburger. It isn't super obvious when there is also a "main menu" at the top center of the page.
  21. The depth is similar, but they have Acuna and Olson.
