  1. Again, it's probably a very complex offer well beyond what most FA deal with, if only because so much of his value on the field is tied up in being a two way player. I'm sure different teams are offering varying conditions, bonuses, etc. Which then requires multiple iterations talking with multiple teams to try to get favored terms agreed to, while not bending on what he likes from those offers. Then teams take time to evaluate and reply. These things just take time.
  2. Sure... We don't have to pay all $500M this year There's a fair bit of room in the budget, with room for expansion under the right circumstances Ohtani is the right circumstance The only big budget option at 1B or 3B in FA is Chapman, who is a very risky sign We don't really need two starting pitchers. The Cubs make a ton of money anyway, but will make much, much more with Ohtani
  3. Presumably not as a child

    NFL Week 13

Fortunately, Carolina looks really bad, too. Better than Drew Brees my butt.

Also pretty much guarantees one of Williams or Maye.
  6. I think many here are underestimating the complexity of the contract likely to be given out. There are likely to be opt-outs, options, income tied to continuing to be a two way player, and many other things that it is hard to place a specific dollar value against. It isn't going to be a simple matter of team A offering $550M vs team B offering $570. There are probably multiple iterations involved as there's give and take on various stipulations, and how that trades off against guaranteed and total potential value. Those iterations have to happen across multiple independent negotiations with different parties, all of whom are also busy with other activities.
  7. A couple things: NSBB had a significant Murton obsession, also. I'm not convinced the door is closed to Morel at 3B this coming season. I'm sure Counsell will make up his own mind about that if Morel is still on the team. I think they'll want the bat in the game. If they sign Ohtani, I think they give Morel time at 3B. We'll see.
  8. On the bright side, Fields would have been air-mailing a lot of these screen throws the past couple years. He's really improved his short passing game significantly
  9. JJ is giving a lot of tape as to why he doesn't earn a tippy-top CB contract.
  10. I think Fields has completed a pass on every play where there wasn't an unblocked pass rusher.
  11. I feel like Starlin is a decent comp for Matt Shaw's downside.
  12. Lance Lynn was objectively awful even after heading to LA last year. If the Dodgers didn't get him straightened out, I wouldn't expect great things with him pitching to Willson.
  13. Further confirmation. Also, we signed Wisdom to a new deal.
  14. Yay!!!! & meh
  15. An out of character loss of command is often correlated with an incipient injury, as well. His loss of command in AAA could be that simple.
  16. There were the takes of Cutler while on the sidelines...
  17. Absolutely nobody was saying that PCA was ready to step in as opening day starter in 2023. Canario couldn't even take the field until July because of his injuiries. Nobody was relying on Kilian after how he ended last year.
  18. Getting AA at bats as a 19 year old catcher is really uncommon.
  19. So, combining the two lists Tier 1: PCA Tier 2: Horton Shaw Caissie Tier 3: Alcantara Ballesteros Wicks Tier 4: Brown Rojas Ferris Triantos I could get behind that
  20. That's funny, because I've gone from 100% fields to 80% who gives a horsefeathers.
  21. It would be perfectly fine as the, what, fifth most impactful move of the offseason.
  22. First off...Miller/Woo are young arms: https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/major-league?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2023&month=0&season1=2023&ind=0&team=11&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0 So there are five moves there. You're good with the top two of Soto & Imanaga. You're getting the quality young arm with the Morel trade. If you prefer other relievers than Robertson/Moore...stick 'em in there. The idea is allocating $15-20M to the pen for veteran relievers. "Everything else" listed there is Hoskins. He's not exciting, but you've already added three exciting pieces in the list. If you're going to be disappointed by anything short of a Soto/Ohtani offseason, well, I'm sorry.
  23. If we did this offseason: Brown + Assad for Soto ($33M) Sign Imanaga ($22M) Sign Hoskins ($15M) Trade Morel + Triantos for Miller/Woo (wash) Sign Robertson + Moore ($17M) And someone complained they weren't being aggressive, I have no idea how I'd respond to that. Probably laughter.
  24. Iowa is going to be packed with actual prospects this year.
