  1. AA's been out the whole season, too. That's three primary veteran forwards they were counting on. Jones has been out for a while, Murphy has turned to crap most nights, and rookie defensemen play like rookies. Plus the goalies have predictably not been good enough.
  2. Someone should create a driveline equivalent for qb's
  3. Wait...who can access this thread?!?
  4. This would have been such a good rule. There would have been many fewer people here, though!
  5. Yeah - case in point that I didn't do a very good job with this. 🙂
  6. I never really had good answers for that other than some guiding principles: long-time users got a longer leash than newbies (more warnings, private conversations, etc) I'd attempt to use a softer touch when possible and remind people to attack arguments instead of others certain lines cannot be crossed (insta-bans) But I don't know if I was any good or very consistent at leading with those ideas. And I have no idea if that's even the right approach to begin with.
  7. He's been cooperating with the investigation since September, so it isn't new.
  8. I strongly suspect that if he could "prove innocence", he wouldn't have been charged. (That doesn't mean he's guilty or that he'll be found guilty. But if he had a rock-solid alibi or something it's likely that the charges wouldn't have been brought against him.)
  9. I'm just hoping the NHL rigs the lottery for the Hawks again. 😃
  10. It was an extreme example to make a point that you can't just categorically state that taking Williams is the only right move at this point.
  11. Who are you referring to here? Just in general? There will always be some people.
  12. I'm glad we agree. There are circumstances in which it makes more sense to make a trade than to take the QB #1. We likely disagree with where the line gets drawn, but at least now we're not talking in absolutes.
  13. I think it depends on the return they could get from a trade, whether or not they want to retain Eberflus as coach, and a variety of other factors. Let's say that AZ does decide to move on from Murray and makes a godfather kind of offer for #1. Something like 1-3, 1-16, 2-35, 2025 1st, and 2026 1st. As things stand, Bears would draft #3, #8, #16, #35. You could end up adding something like MHJ and Bowers to the offense, plus a 3T and edge to the defense. Or you could still go QB and take Daniels at #3 with the rest of that haul. I'd probably lean towards taking Williams at #1. But there are definitely scenarios where I'd make the trade.
  14. You're making a statement that I made an absolute when it wasn't an absolute statement.
  15. Wouldn't the real comparison there be: Bellinger + trade returns from PCA vs PCA + whoever you can get for $150-200M?
  16. The point of my post wasn't about where in the draft to find the QB with the highest upside and floor. That's undoubtedly at the #1 spot as long as your talent evaluators are worth their salaries. The point was more of a challenge to those who believe you have to have a "franchise" "cornerstone" type QB in order to in in today's NFL. For the easy example, I think Brock Purdy would look a lot more like Bagent on the Bears than the potential MVP he's been on the 49'ers. It's just not that easy to pull apart how much the QB elevates the team and how much the team elevates the QB.
  17. For the record, I don't consider Goff a "bust". But he hasn't been a guy that people around the league were calling out as a "franchise" guy or a "cornerstone", either.
  18. It's not everyone. It's around 4-5 people that post a lot.
  19. I think that list says a lot more about surrounding guys with talent and coaching than anything else. Sure, Goff was a #1 pick. But most of that list was late first, second round, or even the anti-1st pick (Purdy).
  20. I believe you've made this point several times recently (if I'm remembering incorrectly, I apologize). Do you really think how Jed treated prospects while he was rebuilding the roster is going to be predictive of how he treats them whenever he believes we have entered a competitive position? I don't think we have any idea how he'll run a team when he thinks they have "arrived".
  21. Top teams in the 2023 NFL (10+ wins to date): Baltimore: Certainly not a traditional franchise QB. Lamar is one proof point that teams can win with this style of QB - at least in the regular season Detroit: Goff was not on anyone's top QB list prior prior to getting to Detroit. He's still not on their top QB lists. Miami: Tua was a bust until he got a new coach and got surrounded by weapons Philly: Hurts is still what we're hoping Fields becomes at some point. Score one team for the "Franchise QB" column. I guess? SF: Brock Purdy is not a franchise QB Cleveland: Nope. No franchise guy here. Heck, they're winning with a guy that was out of the league for years. Dallas: Dak usually rolls up the stats, but I don't hear anyone talking about him in the Franchise QB group That's not really a compelling argument that you have to have a traditional, franchise QB to win in today's NFL.
  22. I've been cheering for Bears wins all season, but since mid-year I have been okay with the losses, too.
  23. Impact players? Bellinger and ? I guess you could say Stroman, but then there are lot of "impact" pitchers available on the market. Stro only managed 2.7 fWAR as a starter last year and only pitched 136 innings. In 2022, he was worth 2.0 fWAR and only pitched 138 innings. Candelario was worth 0.2 fWAR with the Cubs. Not much impact there. Who else are we down?
  24. It dropped right through his hands
  25. He put the ball where it would lead Kmet to the end zone. Kmet blew that.
