  1. If Boog was there everyday, I'd be a big fan. But it seems like I randomly tune into every game he's not broadcasting.
  2. I don't know...What he is today may not be what he was at the end of last year. From the press conference today (BN's summary of what was said): It will be very interesting to see how PCA looks in spring training games and word from scrimmages/workouts. I'm hoping he breaks camp with the team, because I hope that means the Cubs believe he is ready.
  3. My assumption is that it's not a choice between "wild success" and "abject failure". I don't think they'll hit their peak value in year 1, but I think they are strong enough prospects (with enough backups in case they do flop) that they'll be able to contribute something to a lineup that has 7 of 9 above average spots filled already.
  4. Holy crap - there's not a single period in that whole thing.
  5. The problem with any veteran willing to take a one year deal is that they provide almost as much risk (sometimes more) as the "unproven" rookie.
  6. He's saying that he doesn't see Jed trading for Kim at this point. He's targeting a mid-level reliever in return for Canario.
  7. I'll let them have Canario in return for Salas and Thorpe.
  8. Headline writers are pretty specific, too. They just have different goals.
  9. They also won't be giving 263 AB to the "proven" Trey Mancini, 123 to "established big leaguer" Barnhart, 100 to "MLB veteran" Hosmer, etc.
  10. Okay??? That team finished 6th in scoring last year.
  11. No worries. I do wish the player pages at baseballsavant showed minor league data.
  12. https://www.prospectslive.com/2023-aaa-statcast-data
  13. So who is a prospect in that range this year with a "J" first name? Preferably someone named some form of "Jackson"...
  14. Just add talent and let our $8M / year manager figure out the best way to use them.
  15. I'm going to work under the assumption that Boras eventually gets close to what he's looking for with the "big 4". If that's the case, I think I'd sign Stanek & Belt along with Liam Hendriks and call it an offseason. That should be doable under the tax. I want a lot of pen options for Counsell to work with. He's made that work to create wins for Milwaukee; let's give him the resources to do it here, too. CF would have coverage from Tauchman, Canario + PCA. This is gambling on the prospects to produce, but I feel like it's a good gamble at this point. We could make the investment in Bellinger here, but I hate paying very large dollars to a likely marginal improvement. 1B/DH would be set between Belt, Busch & Morel 3B would be set between Madrigal, Busch, Morel & Mastro. We could make the investment in Chapman here, but see the comment on Bellinger. Wisdom would be redundant and would get traded or released (or sent down if he's got an option left) if PCA makes the roster ---------- Obviously, if Jed wins the staring contest and any of the big 4 come cheaper than expected, sign me up.
  16. I think the one exception to that may be that this week is when teams can add players to the 60 day DL, which will open a bunch of roster spots across the league. For teams doing "many for one" trades, they could be holding off until then to execute.
  17. I believe it was after the draft when that was in June. I'm not sure about that date anymore. But it is somewhere around there during the season.
  18. Has democracy collapsed yet? I can't tell
  19. So...I would have cheered for SF, but I have to go for KC now. Let's go TayTay, overthrow democracy!!!
  20. I don't get this. This team has: A legit Cy Young contender from last season looking to build on that performance An absolutely joyful dude to loves to play and hit dongs Three huge ROY candidates at SP, 1B and CF Zero legit bad positions on the entire field or on the mound There is plenty to watch and be excited about out there.
  21. Do you think that the Cubs FO hasn't engaged in talks? There have been very few trades around baseball all winter long. You keep saying that the deals are out there...but nobody is making them.
  22. Even if you're leaving off the word "contender", you're also underselling the wins to be dramatic. Also you're ignoring the valid arguments about why the projections may be underestimating the team. So...yeah.
  23. Pick a different site. It won't change the answer much.
  24. meh - people were even more down on the team going into last year. And they were probably a playoff team without having a manager that blew a few games on his own. The club will improve by not giving away as many terrible at bats as they did in the first half last year. They'll improve by having better depth in the rotation and at the plate when injuries happen. They'll improve because some of the young guys *earn* their playing time.
  25. I'm pretty sure we're an 84+ win team as currently constructed.
