  1. From a production point of view, Gavin Hayes has been at close to a *two* point per game pace since he got traded within the OHL (still a Hawks prospect). The two most important prospects, Oliver Moore and Frank Nazar, both look plenty good in the B1G this year, but neither is setting the world on fire.

    Brendan Harris?
  3. But he's no BJ Murray! 😉
  4. No errors in yesterday's game, so it must have been ruled a hit.
  5. There are serious questions whether he can demonstrate both strong contact rates and the ability to hit the ball hard at the same time. He's mostly done one or the other during his minor league career.
  6. It makes sense if (and only if) you believe that all his performance issues the past couple years are purely injury related. I'm not sure I entirely buy that.
  7. I wouldn't say he's shown genius. But his drafts have been pretty solid so far.
  8. Ah - context. You're talking about taking him off the 40 man to make room for Bellinger. I'd rather remove Keegan, personally.
  9. Wisdom has three options remaining. How much service time does a player need to refuse an option assignment? Wisdom has 3 years and 58 days of service.
  10. They used $30M in their calculations, so I don't think so. They also included the $5M for a buyout of his last contract. When the details of his new deal come out, it'll be interesting to see if they structured it as an extension. If so, they may have baked that $5M into the contract.
  11. According to FG's Roster Resource page, the Cubs are at $234.2M against a salary cap of $237M https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/payroll/cubs
  12. I'm not the one that called it a strong finish. For a utility infielder with his speed and glove, if he can be an average hitter he's going to have value on the roster. If you're choosing those last roster spots at this point, hitting lefty as an infielder probably gives him an edge. If Morel shows enough to be starting 3B, the bench options would be: Amaya (lock) Madrigal Mastro Tauchman vs Peralta vs Canario Wisdom vs Cooper vs Smith vs Mervis I guess they could conceivably keep three of the OF/1B/DH options. But Mastro also acts as a backup OF on the roster. If Morel doesn't show enough to be playing at 3B, then it really comes down to whether they want Wisdom or one of those other guys at the 1B/DH role. One way or another, I like the back end of the roster a hell of a lot more this year than past years.
  13. I think you're underestimating Morel here. With his arm strength that throw is going into the stands.
  14. For the second half he had a .309/.347/.382 line worth a 102 wRC+, he plays solid defense across the infield and adds a lot of value on the basepaths. He's a left handed hitter, so he complements the other infield options very well.
  15. I think Mastro should absolutely be on the roster.
  16. Wasn't somebody here insisting that nobody does opt-outs anymore or am I making that up?
  17. Maybe that matters for the pitchers, but I don't see it helping the position guys. Those injuries just aren't as likely, first of all. Secondly, I don't think you make the decision to commit 8/$200m to Bellinger just because your planned CF tore his ACL.
  18. Quality shade from Counsell, “Huge crowd on day one so you know you’re in a different place, no question about it.”
  19. Ha - I didn't realize this was tape delayed until just now.
  20. Does beating the White Sox count as an MLB or AAA victory?
  21. lol - of course it was the Mets first.
  22. I think you can look at players who were injured to start the year to see how long teams believe they need to ramp up. I think that guys who missed all spring typically spend about 2-3 weeks in the minor seeing live pitching before coming off the DL. Sometimes less, sometimes more. But that would be a good sample of players to look at to increase the sample size for analysis of the impact of a shorter ramp up time.

  24. I'd prefer to put on in Memphis just to piss off St Louis
  25. I wouldn't do any of the trades for #1. I wouldn't be thrilled about the Fields trades, but would prefer the ATL or PIT deals if that was all I could get.
