  1. Listening to Rick Hahn during the press conference was just painful. It was abundantly clear he was not happy with the hiring and constantly used the passive voice in describing the decision process while offering half-hearted deflections regarding Reinsdorf's meddling in this process. It was almost like watching a hostage video. I actually like the team he built and the White Sox were a legitimately enjoyable team to follow throughout the season, but this feels like such a step in the wrong direction.
  2. Wait, Mills? Seriously? Huh. Can't say I would have expected that when I checked this thread.
  3. I'm looking forward to seeing how much of a debacle this will be in relation to the Blue Jays. Canada is going to quarantine the entire team any time they come back from a road series.
  4. I always knew that I just wanted to know why you are STILL TALKING ABOUT CHAD KELLY I’ll make a ban bet with you that he starts an NFL game in the next two seasons. Loser gets permabanned by Tim. I know a bunch of people on this board would love to see you accept that bet so I’ll be permabanned, so don’t let those guys down. Accept it. Yeah, but I could also arbitrarily ban both of you for the hell of it. I won't, but still.
  5. Additionally, this could really harm teams that acquired Astros players post-2017 not knowing about their involvement in the sign stealing scheme. How fair would it be to the White Sox if, say, Dallas Keuchel gets a 50 game ban out of this? It'd be hilarious, but also seriously inequitable.
  6. Welp, that's the end of this thread.
  7. i definitely have been... circa 2010-11 or so. i don't think i can say i've been more pissed off at them than i am now, though. Look at it this way, at least this offseason we haven't traded three useful pitching prospects for one season Juan Pierre. Yet.
  8. I don't see how they can possibly keep him next year. This team has become a train wreck and he just keeps slamming his head into the wall doing the same ineffective things over and over. Barring the team losing out (which is possible), I think everyone comes back next season for one last go-round. This team won't eat the contracts for Pace, Nagy, and Trubisky this offseason, plus their draft situation kinda sucks. I don't see them giving Pace another HC hire if Nagy gets fired, either. Now, if they suck again in 2020, then I think they will clean house.
  9. It's time to say goodbye, old friend.
  10. I saw a comment on the latest Deadspin article on Patterson's run back, which made me realize just how damn familiar the comments in this thread seem to me: Looking through this thread, I feel like I've read people say the exact same QB comments on Grossman, Cutler, and Orton and the exact same HC comments on Jauron, Lovie, and Trestman over the last 18 years. This team is never going to break the mold, is it?
  11. Wait wait wait wait. What if Zobrist cheated on his wife...with a member of the Cubs? I mean, it is 2019...
  12. I keep waiting for the inevitable in-game guillotine moment that marks the unofficial end of the season. Something like LaTroy and Dempster leaving the mound covered in diarrhea in 2004 or Game 163 last season or Juan Pierre leading off on Opening Day in 2006. This season has been a painful slog and I just can't see it ending well. Maybe it happened last night, but I feel like something more dramatic and gut-wrenching is merited.
  13. You can make a good case for Chris Archer back in 2011. After that, it's luminaries like Mark Pawelek, Angel Guzman, and Donnie Veal.
  14. Remember when the draft was just a conference call that took roughly 45 minutes?
  15. Looking at the box score, did Chatwood get Freaky Fridayed and had his brain swapped with a competent pitcher, or did he just get really lucky with bad swings?
  16. Geez, I thought we'd at least make it through the first week without an extended thread on lineup rosterbation.
  17. If you asked me yesterday which teams each of those pitchers currently played for, I probably would have gone 1 for 5 at best.
  18. I'm just saying, Parkee needs to return that tiki idol he accidentally took from Hawaii in the offseason.
  19. This times a billion. Without 2016, tonight would have been agonizing and I would have been steaming for three weeks. But with it? Eh. Get 'em next year.
  20. Something tells me he didn't have much to do with the offense's woes. The Cubs have a bunch of streaky guys prone to periodic slumps who went into the tank at the same time.
