  1. I'm going to engage in a thought experiment. Please indulge me: Yep. That checks out. By the way, this isn't a comparison between Trubisky and Fields. However, this feels like a continuation of Nagy's failures to adapt to his QB's strengths and weaknesses.
  2. I don't think I've ever seen a statement better sum up most of NSBB's posters than this one. Well done. =D>
  3. I like the idea of bringing Javy back on a 1-2 year prove it deal, but anything more than that makes me leery.
  4. I'm pretty much at the point of blaming Addison Russell for a good chunk of this team's downfall, both because he was an abusive piece of horsefeathers and also because his production fell off a cliff.
  5. For those of you who missed it: [bbvideo=560,315] [/bbvideo]
  6. If you squint, you can see a playoff caliber bullpen and lineup in 2022 with the right moves and luck in the form of health, rebounds, and callups. Getting one of the top tier SS free agents would allow Nico to take on a Ben Zobrist super utility type role with Madrigal holding down 2B. Things could break the wrong way, but even without a big signing or trade for the lineup, there is enough there to make for a somewhat intriguing 2014-type season. However, I think the rotation is what will hold everything back in 2022, barring some big moves. I don't think the Cubs can rely on Alzolay, Steele, and Thompson to provide more than 100 IP each, much less 100 good quality innings. I'd be okay with them duking it out for the 4th/5th starter roles, but not 2nd/3rd/4th starter. The Cubs need to make a splash in the offseason in the rotation if they want any hope of being competitive in 2022, so we'll see...
  7. Ah damnit, I'm going to have to do the minor league game day threads again aren't I?

  9. Oh my God Toronto got robbed blind. What a haul for the Twins That's a bingo No way in hell the Cubs could have matched that package. Damn.
  10. Kind of sucks it ended this way. I'm guessing we'll see Kimbrel and then Bryant next.
  11. Guessing the medicals on Tepera weren't great. Kind of a meh return.
  12. I'm pretty much there with the Cubs' QO guys. People might get upset if the Cubs fail to trade Bryant/Rizzo/Baez, but it looks like baseball is in a buyers' market for position players at the moment and the Cubs might benefit from just pocketing the extra picks and expanding their pool money in a 2022 draft that apparently will be loaded, rather than taking in a bunch of middling prospects who might end up as as bench jockeys or mediocre relievers.
  13. I get the feeling that the Darvish trade would have looked a heck of a lot better if there had been a full 2020 season in the minors. Preciado is probably the most exciting prospect in the organization right now because he's so young and it looks like he is just scratching the surface of his talent. It's easy to dream on him. Caissie seems to fit the mold of hitters this organization has a knack for developing. It's easy to imagine both of them as Top 100 prospects by this point next season.
  14. I'm kind of sort of on-board the "Trade Davies" train. There's a possibility the Cubs hit on a lottery ticket or two for him and every team seems to be scrambling for innings from starters going down the stretch, but man, this rotation is already butt and trading Davies will just make it even worse.
  15. The last six years have completely obliterated my ability to tell the differences between trolling and delusion.
  16. I'm getting a serious Brian Dopirak vibe reading about him. It's not a bad thing, since sometimes those guys pan out. Even if we have a Chris Davis-type outcome, that can be useful when under team control. What's more intriguing to me is this helps get a picture of the current trade market for hitters. I had resigned myself to the outcome that the Cubs wouldn't get a Top 100 prospect for any of Baez/Bryant/Rizzo, but Joc for Ball suggests that might not be the case.
  17. Welp, if you're pot-committed, might as well go for the gusto. ETA: Holy horsefeathers, they only drafted one HS pitcher.

  19. With Wicks, I like his floor, but I'd put Davis, Preciado, Amaya, and Howard ahead of him in that order since I tend to lean upside when it comes to future value. I'm skeptical on Triantos since the Cubs historically have issues with developing contact-oriented hitters, be it because of scouting or coaching, so he'll probably lurk around my 10-15 until he starts seeing more advanced pitching. I'm even more skeptical with Franklin for similar reasons, although he at least seems like a safe bet to be a useful utility OF. In a vacuum, I like this draft since this system needed a boost and the Cubs did about as well as they could do in the circumstances. However, the more I think about this draft, the more intrigued I become with the pitchers, but the more skeptical I get with the hitters.
  20. Premium speed and defense to go with power, so even if he couldn't hit above the Mendoza Line, he still could be a useful bench piece as a defensive replacement and/or pinch runner. He fell for a reason, but even if he doesn't smooth out his K issues, he can still for make a solid 4th OF option.
  21. He also probably knows all the best spots for stone skippin' and muddin'.
  22. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the "Who?" portion of the draft. 6 184 Martin, Riley Quincy University (IL) P L/L 4YR 5S
  23. 5 154 Spence, Liam Tennessee (TN) SS R/R 4YR SR There you go.
