Last year was stacked thanks in part to COVID mucking everything up in 2020. I don't think we'll see a draft like that again for a long, long while. This year feels decidedly muddled, like I wouldn't be surprised if the combined career MLB WAR of picks 11-20 ends up higher than picks 1-10.

I'm really trying not to buy too deep into the hype and I know it's way early, but this draft is starting to give me 2004 vibes from a talent perspective. If that's the case, then I reeeeeeally hope they don't trade out of 9.

Ben Brown and Cade Horton both end the season in the Cubs' bullpen, with Brown handling closing duties and Horton handling long relief outings to give the rotation a breather in August/September. Javier Assad finishes the season in the Cubs' rotation, and most everyone's okay with it. Dansby Swanson makes his third ASG in a row. Matt Shaw gets a midseason callup and becomes the everyday 3B. The Cubs lock up the NL Central by mid-September. The Cubs make the NLCS, but fall short to the Dodgers in 6 games.

The discovery rule kicks in with these sorts of crimes. A shitass US Attorney (and there are plenty of them) could argue that no reasonable person would have been aware of the perjury under the circumstances, and date of Sosa's admission of the perjury would be the trigger for the limitations period to kick off, rather than the date of his original testimony. At best, we'll get an extremely codeworded, vague, and mealy admission from Sammy that will be along the lines of, "I did things that were wrong," that won't implicate him as a perjurer.

I can't say I had "get into a lengthy discussion with a server regarding what the Bears should do with Fields during brunch" on my list of expectations for my Australia trip, yet here we are.

Don't forget, teams also do weird horsefeathers all the time. It's not out of the realm of possibility that someone like Vegas trades up into the top 10 to take Smith or Mitchell.

This is where I stand. If Poles trades the #1, takes a QB in the 1st, and Williams goes on to be a perennial Pro Bowler while the Bears' guy is out of the league in five years, it would be an even bigger fuckup than the Rick Mirer trade, and it would be a more likely scenario than Williams being out of the league in five years with the Bears' guy turning into a regular at the Pro Bowl. It's such a huge risk and I just don't trust the Bears to pull it off.

I wasn't a fan of the Cubs hot-shotting PCA last season when he clearly needed time in AAA to clean up his approach at the plate, and I wasn't very comfortable with him being the 2024 opening day CF as a result. As such, this move greatly pleases me.

Mid-season should be really interesting considering we *should* see a bunch of graduations with guys like PCA, Busch, Wicks, and pen arms like Little and Palencia. Optimistically, there's a glut of pitching in the lower levels that could take a step forward, and I am reeeeeeally hoping we see bounceback years from Howard and Davis.

Depends on the personalities. We've reached the February doldrums, so a lot of the horsefeathers-stirrers (Parkins, Mully, Kaplan) are throwing crap against the wall in the hopes of getting listeners/likes. Anyone willing to share tidbits from the latest ESPN+ article on the Bears and proposed trades?

Figured this topic could use its own thread considering recent developments. Reinsdorf to meet with Illinois House leader It's kind of insane to me how there was massive backlash against the Ricketts and McCaskeys for asking for government funds for stadium renovations and relocation, but the least popular team in Chicago asking for a billion dollars has been met with a collective shrug so far.
