  1. I knew someone was going to do this. Boy, some of these reactions are pretty funny. Good work NC! I think it's fun to read some of the comments again a few minutes later when he turns out to be much better than anyone expected (at least for now).
  2. I knew it was inevitable, but I kept hoping that he'd somehow regain his control. Not only was that a bad first round for the Cubs, it was also a bad year for Ball State pitchers. Hagerty's college teammate, Bryan Bullington, was the #1 overall pick (Pirates), and so far he's been a bust.
  3. no, you can replace him in your lineup but he can't go on the DL unless he goes on the DL. Yogi, is that you?
  4. Prior doesn't qualify, since he's on the minor league DL.
  5. And to keep him out of the Cubs lineup. :D
  6. Down 7.95 to HBC with 5 starts remaining each. Still anybody's game.
  7. I have another 3b in my line up at utility by the name of BJ Upton. If Rolen doesn't get his head out of his ass soon, someone else will be hitting utility while Upton plays 3rd. Rolen has now been demoted to my fourth option at 3B/utility. I was able to pick up Andy LaRoche in both of my Yahoo leagues.
  8. Getting back on subject, so far LaRoche is looking good. 2 for 6 with a run, RBI, and stolen base in two games.
  9. Same here. I mean, how often do you see anybody get sent down directly from the MLB level to single A when their not injured? I'm guessing not too often. It probably had more to do with the way their rosters were set up and single A was the smallest disruption. A player that's supposed to be ML quality that needs to straighten himself out can do that anywhere. Or, as O_O mentioned, maybe they specifically wanted him to work with the Tampa pitching coach. Maybe he's the best in the system in getting struggling pitchers back on track.
  10. Still definitely up in the air, especially if Reyes lays an egg next time out (he's been my weak link so far this year) or if Webb has another so-so or worse start (he hasn't looked much like Cy Young yet this year). Also, Guzman could be a question mark, and Moyer and Washburn may be due for an off start. My starting pitching has really surprised me so far; hopefully it will continue.
  11. yeah, nice in hindsight, but in the off season, keeping hamilton and shipping murton would have been insanity not sure why i responded to this guy. i'm 99% sure he's been banned Yep.
  12. Referring to yourself in the third person, while not a 'slam-dunk', is a good indicator. Sean knows. NCCubFan disagrees. :D
  13. Another awesome performance by Gonzalez (2 for 3 with a double and HR, plus two walks), along with strong pitching starts by Davis and Reyes, has NC Cubs off to the races against Harrys Budcrew in the matchup of East powers.
  14. It's surprising to me that he got sent down all the way to class A. That's a huge demotion.
  15. It's the top farm paper for the Daily Herald. Their sportswriters are trying to develop so that one of them can eventually replace Bruce. :D
  16. Was trying to come up with something witty about 32 teams being wrong. Maybe the Cubs count three times? :) Oops; I just got back from the future (after expansion teams were added in Las Vegas and Charlotte) and forgot that, at present, there are still only 30 teams. The time travel equivalent of jet lag. :D
  17. If Fontenot were a major leaguer he wouldn't have been passed on by all 30 teams when he was outrighted. There's not one single team that thinks he's a major leaguer; I can't imagine 32 teams being wrong.
  18. Not necessarily trye. He's had some major league success (2005); maybe he can work things out in AAA and come back up. It's premature to completely write him off. Izturis I agree with you on, but not Cedeno.
  19. I'm thinking Miller, Marshall, and Marmol are our options if Guzman falters. Miller's out of the equation. He's already proven he can't do it. Marshall and Marmol would almost certainly both get chances before Miller gets another. Besides, I think it's a moot point anyway. Guzman's start yesterday, along with his earlier relief outings, certainly has earned him an extended chance.
  20. Head-to-head would be 1st tiebreaker.....and I beat you and Buddiga. Ah. Prior to this year I haven't even been within shouting distance of playoff contention so I haven't paid much attention to tie-breaker procedures. Of course, we all still have another round of games against each other.
  21. Game of the Year. Tickets are sold out except for SRO. :D
  22. A red letter day. The Cubs go over .500 in major league baseball, and I go over .500 in Roadkill for the first time since 2006 week 1 and second time ever. After Week 5 the perennial championship game participants are both out of playoff position. Northside Baseball is 2-3, and Galesburg Hand Sanitizers are 3-2 and in a four-way tie for 2nd in the East, but based on points scored (which I believe is the tie-breaker) Buddiga and NC Cubs would get the 2nd and 3rd spots. But still plenty of time for things to change.
  23. I was only around 13 at the time, but i vaguely remember that thread on cubs.com. Care to refresh my memory? Some Cards fan (hogcard was his name?) who was a frequent troll on cubs.com started up a thread by that title, complete with improper usage of "your" instead of "you're". The post was a poorly conceived argument that Z was going to hurt the cubs, and this was right before he really broke out into the pitcher he's become. Needless to say, as Carlos dominated the thread was bumped countless times to lampoon the initial post. Hogcard it was. This was during 2003 Spring Training.
  24. very dumb post How about being more respectful when disagreeing with other posters?
