  1. As long as he is not starting anymore and bought out at the end of the season rather than being re-signed, I can live with his gluteus maximus being glued to the bench for the rest of this year. I don't like the fact that he's a Cub in the first place, but that's over and done with. Apparently Hendry decided it's more important to drive in runs with your bat rather than your glove. :D
  2. Wow. Where do I sign up for that league? :D
  3. Too bad there isn't such a rule. I could take some of my over 100 excess points from last week, apply them to the first two weeks, and be 3-0. :D
  4. There's no salary cap in baseball. You may be thinking of the luxury tax instead.
  5. Fontenot didn't even get a September call-up in 2005 when he was on the 40-man roster after he was up earlier in the season. That speaks volumes about how the Cubs consider him.
  6. I was just going to say that. I thought Guz was supposed to start tonight? Yes he is supposed to. That has been mentioned in some of the articles about him being called up to start for the Cubs next Tuesday.
  7. but it still comes in behind "playing with Hank Aaron." Who played with Hank Aaron? I bet that was cool. Dusty did. No way. Way. Aaron was still playing with the Braves during Dusty's early years as a player.
  8. Over 215 points (before deductions) in just three days. Washburn was awesome for me today (complete game shutout) and Webb wasn't too shabby either.

  10. I don't mind the guest conductor idea. What I don't like is the obligatory interview during the bottom of the 7th that distracts from calling the game. If they keep the singer but ditch the interview it would be much better.
  11. They can cut his salary up to 20% from this year, but no more if they want to keep his rights. And I'm fairly sure he'd still be eligible to file for arbitration if he doesn't like what the Cubs are offering.
  12. Ball State/Notre Dame? Hmm, good point. Rationalization: BSU never plays ND in an important sport - there's almost no way they'll ever play in men's b-ball or football. They potentially could have matched up in the baseball regional last year, but because BSU won their first game and ND lost they didn't match up.
  13. Ignoring a talk show host is one thing. Ignoring a 7-12 start, last in a terrible division? Much different, indeed. I'm certainly not ignoring the bad start (which is now 7-13). I'm just being a little more pragmatic. As should a lot of other posters. No. We shouldn't. Yes we should.
  14. Enjoy the view from the bench, Izturis. Killing a rally with a bases-loaded double play was the last straw. He has to go.
  15. According to tonight's telecast Ron was to be released from the hospital today. It sounds like he may miss the upcoming road trip but return to the booth when the Cubs return home.
  16. Wait... seriously? Check out Lance Dickson's numbers. Definitely a joke. Dickson was drafted in the 1st round of the 1990 draft. Made his ML debut on August 9, 1990 and played his final game on August 18, 1990. Did he get injured or could he just not get the job done? Lance had serious arm/shoulder injuries. They were such that they just shut him down and he was never heard from again. I dont think they could fix him. I remember being really excited about him at one time. He looked like a can't-miss. He progressed through the entire system all the way up to the majors the summer he was drafted. Although he struggled at the major league level, he looked like a strong candidate to win a spot in the rotation the next spring. Unfortunately his injury problems already started and his major league career was over before it really got started.
  17. Over 100 points for me today. 15 points each from Gonzalez and Wells, and almost 55 points (before deductions) from two pitching starts (El Duque and former Cub Jamie Moyer). High score in the league so far this week. Too bad the results become final after Tuesday; I think I'd be undefeated. :D
  18. I don't have a second major league team. It's Cubs and minor league baseball for me.
  19. Z is to blame for the loss as well. I know he only gave up 2 runs, but he is supposed to be an ace. An ace takes you into the 7th or 8th inning and doesnt make your bullpen have to sustain a lead for 4 2/3 innings. Agreed.
  20. We need Steve McMichael to "take care of" the umpire.
  21. The real issue, and perhaps what Bruce was referring to, is whether the Cubs would WANT to re-sign Prior. If the pitching staff falls into place this year without Prior they may not want to pay what it would take to keep him (they couldn't cut his salary by more than 20%, I believe).
  22. He is even if he does pitch. Not pitching this year delays his free agency through 2009. He was called up too late in 2002 for that year to count, so the clock didn't start ticking until 2003.
  23. The poor taste tangent has been split and moved to Rants. This thread can get back on topic now.
  24. i don't think he should be judged on nine spring innings either. Agreed. He shouldn't be either declared to be the second coming or villified. The jury is still out.
