  1. He was the pitcher of record when he left the game (because they took the lead against him). That means he gets the loss if his team never ties the game or takes the lead. It's the pitcher who is charged with the go-ahead run when the other team takes the lead for good that gets the loss. He could have left down 1-0 and his team ultimately loses 20-19, and he would still be the losing pitcher if the other team remains ahead for the entire game.
  2. Exactly. The Cubs themselves weren't interested in Hamilton; it was a pre-arranged deal. I believe at the time the Cubs and Reds came to the agreement the Reds hadn't even told the Cubs specifically what player it would be. It wasn't until the Cubs' turn in the draft came up that the Reds revealed the player was Hamilton. Without that deal the Cubs never would have drafted Hamilton in the first place.
  3. At least Lou gets advice from players rather than fishing buddies. :D
  4. I might if I felt like I'm in contention for this year. I probably would not if I'm building for the future. That's one issue you have in keeper leagues that you don't in regular leagues.
  5. It was 2 innings. Dempster came in for the 9th. He pitched 3 innings in an earlier outing, but this one was 2 innings. I doubt they'd send him down for a minimum of 10 days because he couldn't pitch one day. I'm in the camp that thinks it is to stretch him out to replace Miller.

    Week 3

If Harden isn't officially placed on the major league DL you can't put him on your injured roster. You can keep him on your reserve list and use other starters on your active roster to get 7 starts for the week. The DL positions are restricted to players that are officially placed on the DL by their major league teams.
  7. I think it's just the hope. It just doesn't make sense to me to send him down if that weren't the case considering how well he's been pitching.
  8. Since Walrond isn't on the 40-man roster the Cubs would need to drop somebody from the 40-man to make room for him (or place Wood on the 60-day DL if they think he'll be out that long anyway). Since Marmol is alreadyon the 40-man they'd only need to create a spot on the 25-man, which they could do by optioning Cedeno or making some type of move with Ohman.
  9. Assault with a deadly pizza.
  10. No cherry pie tomorrow. He pitched tonight for Iowa, which he would not have done if they were planning to bring him up tomorrow.
  11. In more ways than one, since that suggests he isn't being called up by the Cubs tomorrow. They desperately need another bullpen arm after being taxed so much today.
  12. I think what he actually said was that he'd request a trade if he were sent to the bullpen. I don't think being sent to AAA was even part of that discussion. I suspect he's out of options, so he could probably simply refuse an assignment to the minors and become a free agent.

    Week 3

Our old friend Steve Trachsel helps me out today. 6 ER in 3.2 IP and almost certainly negative points for my opponent after overnight deductions. \:D/
  14. Oops, you're right about that. So not really a pressure situation, but not a blowout either. Regardless of the circumstances, though, his numbers of 8 strikeouts and 1 walk in 7.1 innings seems like major progress to me. BTW, I do agree that he should have been the #5 starter from the beginning; I'm just saying there's no need to continue that wrong.
  15. His 3-inning scoreless job against Houston was 4-2 after 5 innings when he came in, a very winnable game (even though they lost). That certainly was a pressure situation, since he had to hold them right there to keep from falling further behind.

    Week 3

Westbrook is on my team in another league. Jake, meet bench.
  17. Guzman has pitched much better during this season than he did in Spring Training, and Miller has not. What's transpired during the season could justifiably cause Lou to reconsider his earlier decision.
  18. The Nationals are wearing Virginia Tech baseball caps for tonight's game.
  19. The planet where Gooz is stretched out to replace Wade Miller. Hopefully that planet is named Earth. :D
  20. They had a moment of silence before the Cubs' game today. I'm assuming they're doing that at all the games today.
  21. [nitpicking]Actually he's led them to the same number of division titles (zero). He has led them to more postseason appearances, though, since they won the Wild Card in 1998.[/nitpicking] Cubs won the NL Central in 2003. D'oh; how could I possibly forget that?
  22. I looked at it wrong then. In any event he's changed it.
  23. [nitpicking]Actually he's led them to the same number of division titles (zero). He has led them to more postseason appearances, though, since they won the Wild Card in 1998.[/nitpicking]
  24. It was actually two innings, but I agree with your point. I'm convinced that is the reason he was sent down in the first place, so I look at it as a positive rather than a negative. There would simply be zero justification for sending him down otherwise. EDIT: I see you corrected yourself while I was posting.
  25. He does have an option remaining, but he has to clear revocable waivers in order to be sent down. I'm not sure how long that process takes, so I don't know if there's time for that before tomorrow's game.
