  1. My understanding is that it's the home team's call anytime up until the game begins, but after the game begins it's in the hands of the umpires. So the Cubs could call it as early as now, or they could wait until the scheduled starting time or later to see if it clears up.

    Week 2

I released Heilman to make room on my active roster to promote Owings for tomorrow's start (he was on my minor league roster). Accordingly, I moved Guzman into the vacant relief pitcher slot Heilman was filling.

They can do that any time they want after this week. :D
  4. If that happens will tomorrows tickets be honored Thursday? Without a doubt they would. Since Thursday is otherwise an off day, there wouldn't have been any presold tickets, so there would be enough available for anybody with tickets for tomorrow's game..
  5. My first transaction: Matsui out, Drew in (Group D).
  6. The Cubs and Astros both have scheduled off-days Thursday, so if Mother Nature doesn't cooperate tomorrow they could reschedule the game for Thursday without needing a doubleheader later in the season.
  7. The only problem is it's not lake effect. There's a system moving into Chicago from the west. I don't think there are any big lakes to the west of Chicago. Lake Pacific ocean? Great Salt Lake.
  8. Hampton may be one of the Cubs' greatest non-signings ever.
  9. Enough foolishness. I command the Cubs to start a winning streak that doesn't end until they're far enough above .500 that they'll still be above .500 after the next loss. That means they must win at least 4 in a row to give them that cushion. :D
  10. I think the Trib itself as the seller might have a lawsuit. They certainly have the right to get the most they can out of selling the Cubs. If the highest bidder is rejected as owner, the Cubs should be able to hold MLB liable for the difference between the highest bid and the accepted bid. I don't know if anybody has tried to sue MLB on those grounds before, but I think such a case would have merit.

    Week 2

Just an example of how important pitching now is, Angel Guzman scored 14.25 points today (before overnight adjustments) for 3 innings of middle relief. Too bad he's on my reserve list. :(
  12. Rookie pitcher in 1986: W 6, L 14, ERA 5.61. Right: A pitcher's rookie season tells all. This pitcher I'm referring to is named Greg Maddux.
  13. I'm posting this here rather than starting a separate thread, but it is somewhat Kentucky-related. Arkansas has hired John Pelphrey as their new coach. Pelphrey was most recently head coach at South Alabama and was previously an assistant at Florida. He played at Kentucky during the late 80s/early 90s period when they were on NCAA probation. He, along with Richie Farmer, Sean Woods, and Deron Feldhaus, are considered UK heroes because they stuck with the program during it's darkest time (collectively they are known as the Unforgettables). They led Kentucky to the Elite 8 and legendary loss to Duke in the regional championship game (the Christian Laettner buzzer-beater) their first year eligible for the tournament after the sanctions.
  14. Not true. He was healthy last year.
  15. 5 FGs? Houston's kicker must be good. It's not 5 FGs, it's 2 TDs with a 2-point conversion after one of them. :D
  16. I just found out from the April edition of Vine Line that Pat Hughes is the creator and narrator of a new "Baseball Voices" series of CDs paying tribute to great baseball announcers. The three currently available are Harry Caray, Jack Buck, and Marty Brennaman. I just ordered the Harry Caray CD tonight (it was rated a home run in the writeup in Vine Line). Hopefully there will be more coming out in the future; there really needs to be one for Jack Brickhouse. There's a web site devoted to the series.
  17. This happened over a month ago, but I don't think it was mentioned at the time; I just read about it today in the April issue of Vine Line. Former Cub catcher Gene Oliver died at 71 of complications from lung surgery. The majority of his playing career was with the Cards and Braves, but he appeared in a total of 31 games for the Cubs during 1968 and 1969 at the end of his career. I believe he was a regular participant at the Cubs Convention. It always surprised me that he identified with the Cubs so much since his time with the Cubs was such a small part of his major league career.
  18. Same here  Me too. And that's in a weekly change league, so I'm stuck with him until next Monday.
  19. Ridiculous post. Totally uncalled for comment. You're certainly entitled to disagree with him, but he's entitled to his opinion just as much as you are.
  20. And to think Bridgewater is only 8-6 on the year. Newberry must be the worst team in history.
  21. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim vs. Cleveland Indians of Milwaukee. :D
  22. Where's Otis89 with his obligatory "go me" post? :D
  23. Yes, again. I'm glad the Cubs didn't sign him when they were rumored to a few years ago. He's toast.
