  1. He's played a little bit Yeah I know. That is why I said earlier in the thread that it is crazy to expect this guy to stick with a major league club after playing only 15 minor league games the past 3 years. And Hamilton made the roster. :-# And almost got a hit in his first major league at-bat.
  2. The link actually is on the Smokies web site, but it's easy to mistake it for an ad. About two thirds across the page from left to right, look for a link that says "Sports Animal." Immediately above it (albeit in fairly small print" it says "Smokies Radio Affiliate." Clicking on that link takes you to the radio station's web page, where you can click the Listen Live link.
  3. They traded Hinske to Oakland in 2002 for Miguel Cairo and the right to keep Rule 5 draftee Scott Chiasson and send him down. you sure about this? i thought hinske was traded to the blue jays for alex gonzalez? EDIT: i am incorrect. it was felix heredia who was traded for agonz. The As traded him to Toronto (along with Justin Miller) for Billy Koch.

    Week 1

I lead my matchup with Raw, 3-1! \:D/ Too bad this week doesn't end with Sunday's action as most weeks do. :D
  5. True. I left off the "in Minnesota" part of that statement. The second Washington Senators franchise (the one that started after the first one moved to Minnesota) is now the Texas Rangers.
  6. Herb Carneal, radio voice of the Minnesota Twins for the past 45 years (all except for the team's first year in existence in Minnesota), has died of congestive heart failure at 83. He died this morning. He was the 1996 recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award for broadcasters.
  7. You just get the game, no pregame or postgame show. You'd need their sports pack subscription to get those channels 24-7.
  8. After the incidents involving Young and Dukes last year I figured Durham would be hard pressed to match the controversy this year, but it looks like Cantu is getting them off to a good start.
  9. The real reason Cherry was sent down was so they could serve Cherry Pie at Iowa. :D
  10. We all know the Cubs really won. The only reason the Astros got a second chance was because the paper "misplaced" some of the Cubs votes the first time. When they acknowledged that the Cubs actually had more votes than the Astros after counting the ones that were overlooked at first, by all rights there should not have been a runoff in the first place and the Cubs should have been declared the legitimate winners.

  12. Natural order has been restored to the world; I have taken over first place in my group. I'm also 2nd in Derwood's group and 6th in Tim's. If Ohio State wins Monday I win my group. If Florida wins I don't win any group but will finish 2nd in both Derwood's and Tim's groups. Not a bad situation, knowing that regardless of the outcome Monday night I'm guaranteed either one 1st place finish or two 2nd place finishes. \:D/
  13. http://www.maxpreps.com/FanPages/TeamFrame.mxp/Florida/Boys_Varsity_Baseball_Spring_06-07/AreaID-7bcaf5fa-f8bd-4fe8-a970-f05012cd05b2/SchoolID-4c04e91c-5310-4a2f-b15e-261485ed7a63/Page-Stats 26 BB in 45 AB's?!? pitchers = scared Base clogger! It's called HITTING, not walking. [/Dusty]
  14. When was Hagerty released? I never read that he was, but I did read that he was in minor league camp. Gah, you're right. But Luke is on his last leg. That I'm afraid you're right about.

  16. Not necessarily true at all. Even if Prior does feel like he's been mistreated that could easily be water under the bridge when he becomes a free agent. Dusty is gone; Hendry could well be gone by then too. Whether Prior decides to remain with the Cubs will be based on his feelings about the Cubs' organization in the present and future, not past.
  17. You've already got a head start on your DL with Figgins.
  18. I don't think delaying free agency was the motivation for starting him in the minors in 2002. It was his first year in pro ball, he hadn't pitched since the end of the college season in 2001 (he didn't sign in time to pitch in the minors in 2001), and I think the Cubs just wanted him to have a few starts in the minors before jumping to the major league level. Very few players start in the majors without spending some time in the minors.
  19. That was the name I used for my entry last year (although I think I had base cloggers as two words).
  20. Or maybe it was Modzilla himself as a way of showing his true power. :D
  21. Mick is now registered as an NSBB member, under the user name Smokies. Welcome to NSBB.
  22. Seems to be fixed. I was able to directly log in to Premium this time.
