    Here's some video of the Cubs taking batting practice at Hohokam Saturday before leaving for Scottsdale to play the Giants. The video was recorded by Tim Sheridan, PA announcer at Hohokam and operator of boysofspring.com web site.

    Speaking of Peyton, I believe I saw in the paper that today (actually yesterday now) was his birthday.

    Highlights were on my local news (Barton, the team that wou, is a local team). I actually interviewed for a teaching position at Barton several years ago but took a job at another school (in the same area) instead.

    Yeah, ha, ha, Novoa is worthless and completely sucks, I get it. He appeared in 66 games last year and put up an ERA of 4.26 The year before he appeared in 49 games with an ERA of 4.43. I know, I know, ERA is not the greatest stat in the world but for a long / middle reliever I think he at least qualifies as "serviceable". "Serviceable" pitchers find a spot on the roster. They don't get sent to the minors.

    Would Dusty have done anything like this? No, Dusty wouldn't have even benched the player. He would have just said "Nice try, Dude; you'll get it next time."If he were a veteran, yeah. If he were a rook, he'd be chained to the pine for 3 weeks before being expected to come in as a PH with sharp timing...True. I forgot to consider the part of the quote mentioning that it was Boone's first season. Boone would have been benched for a Neifi-like middle infielder with no talent.

    I read that what he has is actually a degree less than a stress fracture (I think the term I saw used was "stress reaction") and that he expects to be ready for the opening of the season. In fact, he said that he could have continued to play if this were the regular season. I hope that's true, since he's my starting catcher in another league. Given that my reserve catcher in that league is Brian McCann, though, I'll be OK (that's an autodraft league; I'm surprised I wound up with both of them).

    I'm currently in 1st place in Tim's group (with 7 of the Elite 8), tied for 3rd in Derwood's (again with 7 of the Elite 8), but only tied for 20th in my own group (4 of the Elite 8). So much for home court advantage. :lol:

    I fully expect the Cubs to be better than 5th place, but my reaction is who cares what the media predicts? Ultimately the race will be decided on the field, not in the newspapers and magazines. It's interesting to discuss predictions, but to me it's nothing to get worked up over.

    My DL got a boost with the injury to Figgins. I now have a top base-stealer in addition to a top starter. :D

    Just imagine if he were traded to the Cubs. In a couple of years they could have a battery of hard-to-spell pitcher and hard-to-spell catcher. :D

    I always get ready for the season by watching my baseball movie DVDs (Field of Dreams, A League of Their Own, Bull Durham, Eight Men Out, and Major League). I'll be starting this weekend.
