  1. I don't see how the Cubs and the Tigers are a match in this particular deal. Now if a team that has a RH CF option becomes a part of the deal, say Florida....I think something might work out. Maybe something like: Dempster to Detroit Cody Ross to Chicago Inge/cash to Florida IDK, something like that could make some sense. At least it would keep the Cubs from having to acquire a guy like Payton.
  2. IDC, if it becomes a 5 or 6 for 2, then they will be taking Donnie Veal's and Sean Marshall's of the Cubs system, over the Sean Gallagher's of the system. There is no way I would part with Gallagher plus change in a 5/6 for 2 deal that has the Cubs talking back Jay Payton. Now if it becomes a 5/6 for 3 trade.....it wouldn't be my favorite deal, but I could live with it. If the O's would do Payton/Roberts/Sherrill for Gallagher/Marquis and whoever they like (and the Cubs are willing to part with) and are not on the 40 man roster, I could live with it. I wouldn't be estactic, but I could live with it.
  3. That's the kicker in the NFC North, there isn't ONE TEAM that stands out. Every team has serious holes. The Vikes have a hole at QB. The Lions are....the Lions....the Bears have no O, and the Packers---as of right now, until proven otherwise---have a hole at QB. As of right now, the Packers are the favorites in the North, only because they are the defending NFC North champs. But that title is very weak at the moment. The Vikes and APete will be BIG busts in 2008, unless Tavaris Jackson can prove he is an legit NFL QB, or the Vikes acquire Dante Culpepper. Otherwise, I could see the League clamped down on APete, like they did with Carnell Williams. So there really shouldn't be a favorite to win the North just yet.
  4. I'm fairly certain that the quality of the players involved is more important than the number involved. I understand that, but if two of the players are Gallagher and Ceda (two who have good value) then that makes the deal overpayment, even if you only include prospects like Veal and Cedeno, or Marshall. 4 players, including 2 prospects with good value, is OVERPAYMENT for Robert.
  5. I guess it needs to be ask again: In what world is Brian Roberts worth 4 players? I wouldn't give up more then 3 players for Roberts. If the Cubs have to give up 4 players, and take back Jay Payton, I would pull Gallagher from the table, IMMEDIATELY.
  6. If we went RB in the first rd, I'd prefer Jonathon Stweart or Felix Jones. But if went Big Ten RB, I much rather WAIT till the 2nd rd. I am NOT convince that Meddenhall is 1st rd material. This is a guy who went from 845 yrds and 5 TDs combine between his Frosh/Sopho yrs, to 1681 yrds and 17 tds. So, colour me unconvinced about Meddenhall. Give me Felix Jones. In his frosh yr he had 626 yrds with 3 TDs. Soph/Junior yrs, he combine for 2330 yrds and 17 TDs. All the while in a PLATOON situation with Darren McFadden. So, IMO, Jones in a better back then Meddenhall. So, why rush for a RB with only one great yr of college, when you can get a better RB, like Stewart or Jones.
  7. NO BIG TEN RBs IN THE FIRST RD, unless you want a guarantee bust. Who can argue with this logic? Curtis Enis, Ron Dayne, KiJana Carter....should I continue?
  8. NO BIG TEN RBs IN THE FIRST RD, unless you want a guarantee bust.
  9. Absolutely unacceptable. The Bears had been rebuilding for years and years (with the exception of the fluke 2001 season). They finally make it back to the playoffs for two years. Rebuilding AGAIN so quickly after only two playoff appearances is not an option. You may find it unacceptable, but it is the truth. Currently the Bears need 2 more WR's, an OT, and OG, and and another RB. I won't even get into the QB situation. That is 5 key positions on offense, and the FA market is dwindling. Do you really expect Angelo to plug these holes via the draft? Espcecially considering his track record regarding offensive players? I don't necessarily believe it's "rebuilding" in the traditional sense, cause if it was, then the Bears would not have re-signed guys like Briggs/Vasher/Tillman, etc. So again, it's not a "traditional" rebuilding, but more of a transistional rebuilding, meaning they are doing it on the run. But it's MANDATORY that Angelo hits a 500 ft homerun of an NFL Draft this yr. He can't take players who can help in a yr or two (Dvorcek, Bazuin, etc, etc) he needs to take players who can, and should contribute in the rookie yrs.
  10. Am I the only one, who believes that this is just a ploy to get GB to bring in some more help? I won't believe Brett Favre is retired, until his makes his HOF speech.
  11. I don't think either lands in NY. I believe both Tex an Howard will reupped with their current teams, regardless of the agent. Now I could see Pena ending up in NY in two yrs, tho.
  12. I am still a buyer of Mark Bradley ability. I think given the chance, 2008 will be Bradley's beakout yr. With that said, I wouldn't mind a couple of solid WR to add to the core, especially if Davis leaves.
  13. Absolutly nothing left at WR. Horrible planning by Angelo. Make no mistake, 2008 is a rebulding year. Angelo has done nothing wrong with WRs this offseason. There was no one out there anyway, unless you want to overpay grossly like the vikings did for berrian. i don't see how 2008 is rebuilding just because we don't have bernard berrian, he wasn't that great... Agreed. I believe if Lovie Smith will give him a chance, and he actually takes advantage of it, Mark Bradley can equal if not be the better reciever in 08 and beyond. But again, that's a BIG if.
  14. And someone in ST, Jay Bruce is doing  followed by a ](*,) , then a to the GM.
  15. Yeah.......not so much.....
  16. I follow Hall and the Falcons in the south, and while he does have friends on the team(including Vick), the feeling I get is that there are alot of people associated with the org, who wants him gone (ie, Keith Brooking, Blank, etc) I think Hall is destined for the Oakland Raiders, to be honest. His attitude may end up being a major detriment, but talent wise and production wise he's terrific. Ultimately, Football, especially PRO Football, is a business, and you have to act like a professional. Something Hall hasn't a clue in. Talent alone, yeah, 29 NFL teams would have him, but talent should not absolve him on his stupidity.
  17. And LSU should NEVER, EVER win a National Title with 2 LOSSES....it happens....
  18. I disagree. I think they should have one day a season where they wear red and donate the proceeds to a charity that is associated with red like the Red Cross, or China or something. I don't mind red tops myself. Personally I want some more blue tops (mainly for the roadies). The Cubs current road uniforms suck hardcore. I want the powdered blues back. "And YOU, sir, are worse than Hitler." "*SLAP*" [-X :)
  19. I'm in the camp of players who will eventually help the Cubs win the World Series. I don't necessarily buy into player A is better then player B,C,D, etc, when the realizty is, the chances of player A reaching his potential is the same as players B,C,D....no matter how tanatlizing a talent said player is....

  21. It's been said many time, many ways, but JR Smith is NOT a John Paxson player. He didn't even want JR Smith in the Chandler deal, but had to take him due to contracts having to match. All things being equal, Smith would still be in New Orleans (or possibly waived by now). With that said, Shannon Brown is every bit as talented as JR Smith, all Shannon is needing is the opportunity. I like Shannon Brown, but J.R. Smith went out and got 43 points last night. Does Shannon have that many points in his career yet? Obviously Smith has some value as a guy who can score. Has Shannon Brown have the opportunity to play, yet? Just because Cleveland's coach is an idiot, doesn't mean Brown can't play. I still take Brown over Smith any day. No he hasn't. But, when he hasn't been able to beat out some of the guys Cleveland were using it doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. No it doesn't. I realize due to contract, Hughes will start (and IMO, both Hughes and Gordon will be dealt in the offseason), but Brown is easily the best attacking guard (I realize how pathethic that is, I just typed), the best athletic guard we have. And if the Bulls are planning to play the uptempo high fly style that we saw last night, then having a Shannon Brown will be a welcome site to the Bulls. Brown can go (in the mold of a Jason Richardson) it's up to Boylan to give him the opportunity.
  22. As "A New ERA" said: The Cubs CAN pull off red, if they do it with taste. I kinda like the red uniform.

  25. I love the Blackhawks, and I am glad the Hawks are finally trying to do something. But man, Patty Sharp has been such a STEAL from the Flyers, that Philly fans should be rioting in the streets.
