  1. Agreed. The media has overhyped Pacman Jones. He's a talented corner, but he isn't an elite corner, right now, and I doubt he'll ever be that guy. I'm just fortunate that my team (Bears) have two very good, young CBs on the team (Vasher/Tillman). But I do believe they should take another corner in the draft.
  2. The funniest part of the story is that Bruce was beat out by his predecessor, a similarly talented yet underachieivng Corey Patterson. Man, the Reds are going to LOVE Dusty as manager. I can wait till the day in which the Reds have to suit down Aaron Harang and Bronson Arrojo because of "tired arms".
  3. I like. Is it that much less nasty with Piggy or Lahey instead of Marte? Or with Leiber in long relief and Hart in short relief? Especially when whoever gets the final pen spot will be basically the 25th man on the roster? Is it that much less nasty to pay more in money and prospects to upgrade it? That's the same point people make for not making the Roberts' trade. Getting Marte makes a good bullpen better. Of course, everything depends on cost. It's completely different. You are talking about getting better for 1 inning at a time, 70 games a year. With Roberts you are getting a 9-inning/ 150 game per year player. It's completely the same. You take a good situation and upgrade it to make it better. That 1 inning at a time, 70 games a year possibly could make a swing of 8-10 wins depending on the situation. I could argue the VORP of Roberts over DeRosa is less than the VORP of Marte over Pignatello or Cotts. I repeat, you make a good situation better in either case. Except in the bullpen situation, managers choose specifically what innings can go to which pitchers. Marmol, Howry, Wood, Wuertz, and Eyre can take all the significant innings. The other 2 bullpen spots just need to eat innings where the Cubs are up by more than 4 runs, the Cubs are down by more than 2, or the starter has gone out early. In essence, if you acquire Marte all that you are doing is wasting Wuertz by pushing him into throwing those insignificant innings. Is it really at all important to acquire another pitcher just to throw in those situations where the game is basically over anyway? Do you really want Eyrehead as the lone lefty in the bullpen?
  4. No it's not. In the case of Fukudome, it is most likely that he is trying to learn the American strike zone, and he to adjust to the American style of pitching. When the season starts, you won't see too man, if at all 3 strike out games for Fukudome. Lee has always been a slow starter, so unless he pulls a 07 Richie Sexson in 2008, it's not that much of a concern.
  5. Actually, no. I remember reading somewhere that the Cubs really like Lahey, and were close with Minnesota to making Lahey to PTBNL in the Craig Monroe deal.
  6. At this point, I believe DeRosa/Patterson at 2B has more value to the Cubs then Brian Roberts, because then, the Cubs can keep certain assets (Gallagher, etc, etc) until the deadline to acquire an actual need (ahem SS). At this point, Brian Roberts should no longer be consider a priority for the Cubs.
  7. I'd venture to guess that most White Sox fans think Crede is better when he's healthy. I'd venture that those people are all idiots. Crede has no business being compared to Ramirez, ever. What's even funnier is that Crede gets props for GRIT, but Ramirez plays hurt most of every season and gets ragged on for being soft. If only he could grow a mullet... hispanic guys don't have grit No, you have to be raised in the South to have GRIT. Guys (or gals) Raised In The South If you ain't raised in the South, you ain't got Grit. Exactly. Only middle class white guys can have GRIT!! Wait a minute.
  8. Maybe they traded for Brian Roberts. I kinda of doubt that, because they don't have the prospects (or do they have any prospects at all) to pull of a Roberts trade. My guess is any trade between the WS/O's would start off with either Poreda or Broadway (or knowing the O's prolly both), prolly would have to include Richar, and maybe either Brian Anderson, Ryan Sweeney, or Jerry Owens. And knowing Williams, he prolly would offer 3/4 of those players for Roberts. My guess is...the White Sox releasing Uribe, has no direct ties to the White Sox trying to acquire Roberts. I think it is just to open up 2b for Ramirez and Richar. Yea, I was joking. I know it wasn't obvious though, so, my bad. :banghead:

  10. No they don't. This isn't the NFL or the MLB where the draft standing are based on W/L records, the NBA draft standings are based basically on luck. So, no the Bulls don't have to lose their remaining game to get somebody good. They just have to hope Stern is in a good mood.
  11. Signing Vizquel, Rowand and Zito would have been great moves when the Giants were ever so close to the World Series. But seeing as I doubt the Giants will see a World Series appearance before Zito's contract is up, makes me believe the Giants are in an identity crisis.
  12. I know, I know it's done to OSU and Michigan, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least, if he choses USC.
  13. Remember the good old days? You know, when we used to talk about reaching page 250? Aww yes, the good "ole days." We were so young, so naive, now we know better.
  14. I thought one of the reasons the A's are releasing him is because they feel he can't play CF. The Cubs aren't asking the player to be able to handle the position long term, just be able the handle the position for a day here, and there. Something, I'm pretty sure Linden could handle on a temp basis.
  15. Without starting a new thread, but what about Todd Linden of the A's? While it don't matter too much, but this spring he is hitting: .577/.633/.885 He is a guy capable of playing all three OF position, and wouldn't be a threat to Pie in CF. Provides some pop off the bench, and apparently the A's won't take him when there season starts.
  16. Makes perfect sense. Why waste arguably your most talented, best reliever (Marmol) in a role that most teams could easily fill (closer)? I much rather Marmol be used between the innings 5-8, instead of the ninth, to be honest. Besides, if everything goes to plan a backend of Marmol/Wood will be one NASTY combo at the end of the game.
  17. If that happens, I could see the Cubs winning upwards of 95 games this yr. But that is a big IF.
  18. Finally, the Pirates gave their fans some good news. Ian Snell is going to be a really good pitcher for a long time. =D> for the Pirates for signing a player, instead of trading him for chump change.
  19. I would give the edge to Pierre, simply because GMJ can provide occasional pop, and a great glove. Whereas Pierre lone attribute is his speed. So, I would incline to say Pierre got the worst contract during the 2007 offseason, heck you can even say ARGUE his contract is the worse in the past 15-20 yrs. edit: Is that better guys?
  20. rotoworld had it right with Hall. If DeAngelo didn't like playing for the Falcons, then he is absolutely is going to see a Shrink if he indeeds ends up in Oakland. Maybe that is why he is saying there is no deal, he simply doesn't want to go to a crappy team like Oakland.
  21. Ultimately, vance, I do believe KW will return to the rotation. It may not happen for a couple of yrs, but I could see a day in which KW is back in the rotation.
  22. Now Bob Sanders you know better. If you going to make that statement, you have to include the cliche evil, sinister laugh. Otherwise, it isn't a promise, it's more of a slap and tickle joke.
  23. Nothing changed. It's more postering by both teams. Trust me, you haven't missed anything.
  24. Unfortunately, I believe the crew will "The Fake" Hawk, and DJ. I was going to DVR the game, but knowing the game will be broadcast by the White Sox announcers---most likely---I am seriously considering NOT to DVR the game. I mean, I can't understand how Hawk still has a job. This guy is still beyond pathethic in the booth.
