    I think that "Cubs biggest rival" poll was misleading, IMO. IMO, it should be broken into two questions: Who are the Cubs biggest competition for the divison? Brewers And Who arre the Cubs biggest rivals? Cards. The Brewers WILL NEVER overtake the Cards, as the #1 rival for the Cubs, it won't happen. They are #2, simply out of annoyance.

    Kerry Wood will be such a great closer, he will go down as a the GREETEST homerun hitter ever to play the game. He's that good, that Bugs Bunny stole his routine.

    No there not. They have alot of talent, no doubt, but there not the better team. They've PLAYED better, but that doesn't make then a better team.

    I can't believe I am going to agree with a Card fan, but I guess it had to happen. wolf, I've been saying the same thing. Losing two to the frakking Brewers is embarrassing, and what's humilating is that it doesn't even look like they give a crap. But the overeaction crowd is in FULL FORCE after two games. So apparently, the MLB season is only 5-10 games long, because if you listen to quite a few people here on this board, you would believe that most believe the season is over. Take a CHILL PILL, members of the "Overreaction Crowd." Just relax, they WILL get it going.

    I was wrong. tHAT 8-16 START was in 2002, so my bad. And I went back over the 2003 start, and the Cubs went 14-12, don't count the March 31st game. But my point remains the same, this "slow start" myth needs to be thrown out the door. If you are competing to make the playoffs, 14-12 isn't going to cut it most years. That will give you 87 wins on the year at that pace. It may cut it the other years, but 14-12 certainly isn't a "fast start" It's more like a "barely adequate playoff pace" start. I understand that, I really do (as I mention in a prev. post, that there not "blistering starts) but this whole the Cubs are historically "slow starting" team is purely a myth.

    Just because I don't get anxious after two games, I am automatically put in the "miserable" group? Sorry, that dog won't hunt. I am frustrated at the Cubs right now, but for gawd sake...IT'S ONLY THE 2ND GAME OF THE YR. Give it a rest. I don't like to yell, and there will be time for the "omigod the world is falling" attitude later in the yr, but not in April. This team is a good team, and they will get it going.

    Why do people get all up in arms over fans getting upset over slow starts? It's the same thing every year. Slow start, MAN THIS SUCKS, hey calm down it's early, mediocre finish. Oh wait, it's too late. Why can't Cubs fans, of all fans, get jumpy over the opening series? What's the big freaking deal? Saying this needs to stop isn't going to stop it. Slow starts doesn't happen to the Cubs every yr. The Cubs got off to a 5-3 START in 2006, and finished April 13-10. In 2005, the Cubs fiish April with a 12-11 record. In 2004, the Cubs finished April 13-9. In 2003, the Cubs had their worst April (between 2003-2008) going 8-16. I'll give you the fact these starts aren't blistering, BUT....there not slow starts either. So, IMO the slow starts are individual players, not the team, per se. I am concern, but then I realize there are 160 MORE GAMES left in the season, and my concern subsides. I won't turn on my concern-o-meter till atleast June.

    The overreation needs to simmer down---there will be plenty of time all season for the world is burning attitude---people are going to get burned out. It's frustrating to watch the Cubs get outplayed, but to say the Brewers are the better team (they're not), or use the other standard Cub fan excuses as to why the Cubs suck, isn't going fixed/solve anything. Let me remind people here the Cubs started 3-5 after 8 games last yr, and ended April with a record 10-14. Not to mention the Cubs dropped their first home series against the Brewers last yr also (April 23-25). So there is no reason for concern.

    The only chance the Cubs had yesterday, was to have a "better gameplan" at the plate. If the Cubs get Roberts, he makes the Cubs a significantly better lineup.

    It could very easily have made no difference whatsoever. It's possible, but what what about the at-bat in the 10th inning? Whow ould you rather have head leading off the bottom of the 10th; Theriot or Roberts? Maybe Roberts go down with ease, but atleast with Roberts there is a threat of him going yard, or going gapper. There is no such threat with Theriot.

    Or they thought the dirt was too messy to take advantage. Exactly. I don't know if people who are criticizing Pie and Fuku for not running on Kendall, didn't realize this, but the ground was NOT exactly prime stolen base opportunity. That maybe one of few times in which nobody steals of Kendall. But if the ground is dry on Wednesday, i can almost guarantee you, that anybody and everybody with good speed on the club (Pie/Fuku/Theriot) will be given the green light to steal.

The Brian Roberts Thread 2.0 What I don't get is....how is it that Hendry can close the deal on a contract for Ted Lilly from his hospital, but can't close the deal on a Brian Roberts trade, after 3 1/2 months? :-k

    If I was in Las Vegas, I'd put a bet on that. Fudge, $5.00 could get me $185?! It's the record, knucklehead, not the "odds." Even tho.........it wouldn't surprise me to see Vegas put those kind of odds for Memphis.

    They won't. As long as Theriot plays with gumption, plays the game the "right way", (whatever that means) gets dirty, plays hard, the average fan won't turn on him. But wait till ARam DOESN'T hustle down the 1st base line, for the first time this yr, and fans will turn on him, as if he was some kind of villian.

    Considering the org, I'm surprise Pie is this far along. I hate to break it to people, but for the most part Latin hitters (and I don't want to sound ignorant, or anything like that) take longer to developed, then most player. Moises Alou was 27 when he began to hit his stride as a MLB player. Sammy Sosa was 26 (he was mediocre at 25, excluding the HRs) Roberto Clemente was 26 when he hit his stride. Jose Guillen was 27 yrs old. George Bell was 27 yrs old, before he found success. Robinson Cano found success at 24 yrs old. Carlos Delgado wa 25 when he found success. Carlos Beltran was 24 when he found success. Jose Reyes was 23 yrs old when he sniffed success. Felix Pie is only 23 yrs old. So NO, I don't believe Pie is overrated, in fact....he's basically in line with fellow Latino players in terms of development. The best thing to do for a young player like Pie, is to let him play, to make him prove he can play in the majors, or not. And one game does not make a player overrated. Give the kid a chance, man. Give him a chance.

    Thank you. I personally believe the Cubs are simply going to rope Suppan into the ground. I'm think 10-1, 13-2 type game for the Cubs.

    Now do people see why Hendry has been after THAT 2B that shall remain nameless (I won't name him for the sanity of this board) so hard this offseason. He may have said publicly that he likes Theriot and whatnot, but Hendry and Piniella both know that Theriot is not the answer at leadoff (perfectly suited for #8), but because they want to save Soriano's legs, he the "closest" to a leadoff hitter the Cubs have. Personally, right now, I think I might rather Piniella go with either DeRosa or Fuku as leadoff, until either THAT 2B that shall remain nameless or another leadoff hitter can be acquired. Who would you rather have had leading off the game, o leading off the bottom of the 10th; THAT 2B that shall remain nameless or Theriot? Theriot is not going to cut at leadoff....

    I find it interesting because apparently Duncan and Reyes are at odds over what kind of pitcher he should be. Duncan likes his pitchers to be more groundball oriented, and Reyes views himself as a "strikeou" pitcher. Not to mention, Duncan apparently didn't want Reyes on the roster, and the Cards FO is force feeding Reyes to Duncan. Reyes inclusion on the roster, has cause some tension in that org. That's why I find it interesting. My guess is...Reyes doesn't finish the yr in St. Louis.

    I like Memphis. With all due respect to Hansbourgh, Love, Arther, Collison, etc,etc Memphis has the best player in the Final Four in Derrick Rose and a dang good big man in Joey Dorsey. I mean, reightfully so, but UCLA/UNC/Kansas have gotten the hype, but I believe this yr, it's going to be Memphis' yr. So again, I going for the 37-1 underdog, Memphis.
