  1. IDK if it was mentioned, but I came across this little tidbit: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2008/03/angelos-gives-m.html Apparently, it isn't Peter Angelos that's holding up the deal. It's more then likely MacPhail that is holding up the deal. So....as of right now, I doubt anything happens, and I believe if it ain't done by Friday it won't be done before the season is over.
  2. Here guys....a quote from Bruce Almight's lastest column over at the herald. That's the reason why they signed Johnson, because of the "grit factor." Have fun guys.
  3. I'd definitely be behind "For Whom the Bell Tolls" and I don't know of any off hand that use it. Mariano Rivera uses "Enter Sandman" and Trevor Hoffman uses "Hells Bells" but I don't know any off hand that use "For Whom the Bell Tolls". Don't forget the OTHER NEW YORK CLOSER Billy Wagner, uses "Enter Sandman" as his theme, also. I love "Enter Sandman" but that song is being played out in baseball circles.
  4. Good question. Looking at their numbers at SS, they are both--in the small sample sizes--are both league average, to "slight" above average in most if not all defensive catergory. In other words...theortically, the Cubs could put DeRo or Roberts at SS at not be any worse off defensively then if they keep Theriot at SS. In fact, having DeRoa OR Roberts at SS, might be an actually improvement defensively over Theriot. But I would put DeRosa at SS, for the simple fact he has played in 100 more games at SS then Roberts. IMO, the Cubs already have an improvement at SS in house, they'd just refused to give DeRosa the opportunity to play SS.
  5. Livin on a Prayer by Bon Jovi. Paralyzer by Finger Eleven Cheesy consideration Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue by Toby Keith Chessy consideration/low blow: Rehab by Amy Winehouse.
  6. Is this pure speculation on your part or did you read it somewhere... I brought this up a while ago and was shot down because of DeRosa's suspect range at SS. I'd love it if the Cubs were to give him a shot there, but I haven't heard it discussed anywhere but this board. Buster Olney had a blog up about a few days ago, and in it, he speculates that if the Cubs do eventually complete a Brian Roberts trade, that DeRo wants to compete for the SS job. And if this is true, this Roberts trade is no longer about is Roberts an upgrade over DeRo, but more about Roberts being a significant upgrade of Theriot. So the possibility is real that DeRo could play SS, if Roberts deal is completed.
  7. I can't find the article, but Ozzie recently went on record as to why Joe Crede didn't have more value in trade circles, then he currently does. All I remember was laughing at Ozzie at atucally think that Crede had trade value.
  8. I'll drop Harden also. Because even tho Pedro is not the same model as the late 90s Pedro, he still has excellent secondary pitches (his change and curve are still quite good). And if he is healthy, he should win 14-16 games for the Mets. Harden may win 8-10 games for the A's, if he's healthy. I'd drop Harden.
  9. Does anyone else think now that we signed Johnson, that Hendry may add Pie to this thing, and pull back some others? I highly doubt that they would consider Johnson a viable full time CF. If they had gotten Crisp, I could see that scenario play out. I could see Hendry doing that, and going with a Fuld/Johnson platoon in CF. I didn't say it was smart, I just said I could see it.
  10. Some balls were thrown, so were strikes. Some were hit, safely and caught. Some reach base, some got out. One hit went over the fence. There Vance.....you got your pbp.
  11. At this point, I'd prefer Les Miles, Rupert Giles, Aaron Miles, or AJ Styles to Marcus Giles. A.J. Styles? he's probably a better athlete than most ball players? I admit I watch him wrestle. Why do you think I included him? Best pure athlete between WWE/TNA, as of right now.
  12. Contrary to the popular opinion, I still have fond memories of Steve Stone as a Cub broadcaster, and I won't let people's opinion on him change those memories. Is he a different man now, as to when he was in the 80s....sure...but Stone and Caray gave me alot of great memories. And the most hated X-Cub of the last 5 yrs, has to Antonio "6 FIngers" Alfonseco.
  13. Its like a NORMALLY bad episode of Seinfeld You're welcome on the correction.
  14. Is this the same Steve Kline, who once wish that Mark Prior took a line drive off the head, and that he could no longer pitch in the majors? I mean no longer be a fan or Prior, but I'll never forgive Kline for wishing bodily harm on a fellow player. well you could make an argument the franchise would have been in much better shape the past couple years if this had happened. just sayin. You don't wish bodily harm on anybody. Prior may no longer be popular here, but as a Cub, I defended him, and people who make comments like that, should be automatically kicked out of the league. There is no defending what Kline said.
  15. Nice Pretty significant move. The Bears get to keep Briggs, and switch picks with 9ers. Teach those "Golden" Boys to tamper with property that isn't theirs'.
  16. If Hill pitches like his 2007 numbers again, i would mark him down as a three, but right now, he's no better then a 4.
  17. At this point, I much rather pencil Lieber as the #3 and Dempster back in the pen. But seeing as Piniella has already announced his rotation. People talk about the Cubs not having a true #2---for which I believe Lilly is a TRUE #2---the Cubs really don't have a #3. Dempster/Hill/Marquis/Lieber all are 4/5. Hill is the closest to bein a 3, but he struggles this spring, makes him a back end pitcher.
  18. Is it possible the O's want Theriot and that's what's holding up this blockbuster of a thread....I mean trade? What's holding up the deal is that the O's don't know what they want, they just know it always needs to be "more." This is also why they suck at baseball. What's holding up the deal is the lack of a sure-thing prospect from the Cubs. The Orioles really don't know what they are getting from the Cubs in any of the myriad projected scenarios. They're likely getting 4 young guys, lots of potential, but nobody that definitively slots as a full-time player or rotation guy. This uncertainty won't change, as the Cubs don't have the missing piece they crave. What's infuriating is that they won't decide whether or not to take the gamble on the players available. At some point you either dive in or climb down. Quit standing on the bloody board quivering like a moron. The O's certaintly didn't get any "sure-thing prospects" from either the Astros or the Mariners. Granted they got some talented youngsters, but NOT ONE of them, including Adam Jones is a lock to become a great player. So if the O's are holding up a Roberts trade because they want a "sure-thing prospect" (and let me remind you, a "sure-thing prospect" doesn't exist, all prospects have some doubt about their future), then they are being hypocrits. My guess is...Angelos is what is holding up this trade.
  19. For me, personally, it's the Sex Pistols. I'll listen to most on that listen, but I'll listen to Sex Pistols 24/7, if I could. In fact, I'm listening to "God save the queen" right now.
  20. I know he isn't the fastest, but am I the only one who swears Murton get alot of INF hits?
  21. +1 And who knows where salaries will be in 8 years. This could be a bargain in 3-4. Compared to A-Rod, it is a bargain NOW. Compared to Soriano, Cabrera's contract is an absolute steal. Only an extra 17.3 mil spread out over eight years... and instead of getting an aging player who at his best is only very good, you get a player who is already fantastic, and hasn't even hit his prime yet. And yet, I would still take Soriano's deal over other comparables like Torii Hunter, Gary Matthews, and the soon to be DH Carlos Lee. Cabrera is taking a deal, that is likely to cause some "groans" among the MLBPA, considering there is a chance, Miggy is leaving upward of $50 or so million on the table. This deal says more about Cabrera willingness to stay in Detroit, then it does anything else.
  22. At this point, I'd prefer Les Miles, Rupert Giles, Aaron Miles, or AJ Styles to Marcus Giles. How about Bruce Miles? He's more valuable covering the Cubs, instead of playing 2b for the Cubs.
  23. I never understood why people trust projectons, I really don't. There are too many varibles that these projections sites don't take into account and/or don't appreciate. Porjections are fun for the fans, but I highly doubt too many clubs take projections seriously, and that includes Oakland and Boston. With that said, I prefer Johnson over DeVanon.
  24. Is this the same Steve Kline, who once wish that Mark Prior took a line drive off the head, and that he could no longer pitch in the majors? I mean no longer be a fan or Prior, but I'll never forgive Kline for wishing bodily harm on a fellow player.
