  1. I love Soto as much as the next fan does, but he is considered a "hole" until proven otherwise. You're right...Hendry sucks....at being a bad GM. But seeing as he isn't a "bad gm" nor does he "suck", your reasoning lacks reason. But hey we can go back to having Ed Lynch as GM. :D
  2. Or maybe your standards are lower then mine. Because any GM who wants to win, and does whatever takes (not necessarily meaning stupid trades, signings) to win, and does this consistantly, is in my book, a good GM. Maybe your not use to the idea of a GM who wants to win, because Hendry definately does want to win. Hendry does get his fair share of blame, but it's not because he isn't trying. I honestly believe people on this board, underrate Hendry as a GM. Actually winning >>>>>>>>>>>> Desire to win That falls on the players to play, and the manager to managed the players. Not the GM. Hendry, IMO, has done an admirably job putting together this team. That's not to say there isn't holes in the team....as of right now, until proven otherwise, the Cubs have holes at CF/SS and C. But otherwise, the Cubs are in good shape to repeat as NL Central champs. admirable doesn't cut it. with his payroll he has put together a pretty mediocre team I disagree that this current Cubs team is "mediocre". Overall it's a very solid team, a team if the bounces go our way, could win anywhere from 89 to 94 games next yr, due to the division and league. Is there holes? Yes, and I believe Hendry is working to fill those holes (it should SS, nonetheless).
  3. I agree. If you like the players today, the chances are, you'll like the same players next week. Unless the O's are holding out hope a 2nd team comes out of the woodshed and blows them away, there isn't a reason why the O's shouldn't trade him asap. I mean, if you are going to trade him, should they be gentlemen about it, and move Roberts now, so that Roberts can get accustom to playing with his new team, in a new league?

  5. Felix Pie and Kaz Matui coming done with some very STRANGE injuries. In the words of Vince Lombardi: What the heck is going on here?
  6. Ok guys, the question is.....Kerry Wood's wife, or Sean Marshall's wife?
  7. Why isn't Ben Williams (Matthew McConaughey)? Was anybody else not impressed with his ability to fly in "Angels in the Outfield?" Or what about Max "The Hammer" Dubois from Mr. Baseball. He can hit, and speak Japanese. What a player.

  9. First of all, Josh Donaldson can't even be traded, yet. So it don't matter if they would considered Donaldson, he isn't available due to draft rules, please the Cubs wouldn't do it. Second: Even if he is eligibility to be dealt, I wouldn't for Crisp. Now if it's Donaldson/Piggy for Ellsbury, then sure...but for Crisp, Fuld/Piggy, IMO, is more then enough.
  10. and a lot that are clearly better -- that still makes him either a bad GM or a mediocre one at the very best Define "clearly better?" It is my experience, when I would troll ESPN boards, that fans of other teams considered their GM to be an "average" to "worse" GM then the next team. Oakland fans has had questions about Beane. Even BoSox fans have questioned Theo Epstein. So, IMO, there was only "ONE CLEAR TOP GM" in baseball, and the Braves move him upstairs. So, I don't buy that there are "clearly better" GMs then Hendry.
  11. Archuleta isn't going to be released, at least not yet. Davis, I am bleh on. If he return, it gives the WR battle so more competition, but if he goes, I pretty sure the Bears could upgrade in the draft.
  12. i disagree with the notion that Hendry is a bad GM, because that is not the truth is....there are alot of GMs that are clearly worse then Hendry. And while it does seems questionable, Hendry does want to win. NAME ME ONE GM who hasn't made questionable moves. Every team, including the World Champs have signed players that said particular teams fanbase, are not thrilled with. So that's not a trait uncommon in baseball. With that said, I do believe Hnedry is trying to put together a Championship Caliber team on the Northside. I know it's trendy to hate on Hendry, but this guy---regardless of the situation---has brought in Derrek Lee, Aramis Ramirez, Mark DeRosa, Ted Lilly, Alfonso Soriano, Kosoke Fukudome, through trades and signings. And players like Felix Pie, Carlos Zambrano, Carlos Marmol, Mike Weurtz, Rich Hill, Sean Marshall, Geovany Soto, Ryan Theriot, Sean Gallagher are players who were either signed as UDFA (Zambrano/Pie/Marmol, I believe) and drafted and developed. Those players are expected to be big contributors to the club for next half decade to decade. In other words...Hendry has arguably assemble the most talented team in franchise history, and people want to mark him as a Bad GM, because the teams hasn't don it on the field. I'm sorry boys and girls, Hendry could acquire an All-Star at every position, but if the manager can't pull the team together, you can't blame the GM. With Lou at the helm, I am confident the Cubs are as close to a World Series, as they have ever been. I'm not saying Hendry is perfect, but continuing to knock him as a "Bad GM" is, IMO, without merit. All this guy has try to do, since becoming GM is try to put the Cubs on the right track to a Championship. IMO, we will get it, very soon.
  13. I hear Bill Romanowski for LBer is a possibility for Dallas. A Falcons fan is making these jokes...cough, cough Michael Vick...cough, cough. I hope you're talking about Truffle, cause I am NOT a Falcons fan. I am a fan of a team that has the 2nd MOST NFL/Super Bowl Championships in league history. I am a fan of the Chicago Bears. To me they are the ORIGINAL NFL. You keep harping on this but 2 Championship appearances in 44 years and only 1 win is not impressive when you are trying to tout them this way. Congrats on being a really old franchise that hasn't done that much since 1946. Whoa, whoa, whoa.....a Cubs fan attacking me for being a Bears fan? Then bringing up the Bears history? Where's the logic in that? The Cubs have a worst history in baseball, then the Bears do in football, and yet people want to bring up the Bears history? That my friend, is what you would call trolling. Besides, as much as I love the Cubs, and I really do, atleast the Bears have been to TWO SUPER BOWLS, in my lifetime. For those who attack me for being a Bears fans, and "touting the Bears" history look in the dang mirror, especially if you call yourself a "Cub fan." A Cubs, NON-Bears fan have NO ROOM to trash a Cub, Bears fan. Nonethless, the Bears do have 8 NFL/SUPER Bowl Championships. You can't discount it, simply because the Bears have won too many championship since the 40s.
  14. Angelo isn't going to pop for another 1st rd RB, unless it's Darren McFadden. And he shouldn't, there is absolutely NO NEED to have two first rd picks that are RBs on the roster. RB is a lower priority then OL, S, etc. I disagree. The Bears can't pull a starting T out of this draft at #14 unless Clady falls which is unlikely. They have 2 OL spots to fill and it's unlikely that they'll get 2 starters out of the draft. Personally, I don't really care if Benson is a 1st rounder or not. He's a bust and he's not going to help this team. Why people keep using him as an excuse for Angelos not to pick a RB is beyond me. Fix the line or not, Benson isn't the RB the Bears need to be successful. Bear fans wonder if you could get a 6th rounder for Benson and then say the Bears shouldn't draft a RB. I don't get it! Angelo isn't going to waste 1st rd money on another RB, period. That is just about as written in stone, as you can get. He may draft a RB (Slaton, Jones, in the 2nd rd or so) later in draft, but he isn't going to draft a RB, because quite frankly the OL is a higher priority then a RB. So he'll overpay for an OT that may not even be able to play the position he need him to play and pass over someone who would solve a problem? Does that make sense to you? By that logic he'll draft a player and not solve any problems, period. I didn't say it made sense, I'm just saying that is what Angelo is prolly going to do. Personally, I don't see the Bears staying at 14. If they are going to draft a RB in the first rd, I expect them to trade down, and take either Jonathan Stewart or Felix Jones later in the 1st or early 2nd rd. But if they do stay at 14, I see them taking either Chris Williams or Sam Baker whoever is there, or god forbid if he is there, I could see Angelo taking Malcolm Kelly at 14. I just don't see the Bears taking a RB at 14.
  15. Outside of Juan Pierre, I can't think of one trade that Hendry has made in which he got ripped off. And looking back out at it, it wasn't really a ripped off. And before people say what about Dontrelle Willis, I say Matt Clement was better with the Cubs then Willis was with the Marlins. So that wasn't really a ripped off. So, I don't get what Hendry gets a knocked for being ripped off in trades, when in reality, Hendry has made more good trades (even if they don't turned out as well as expected, ie Nomar) then bad trades. Now FA, that's a different story.
  16. (slowly)Ye........ah. That is a very highly unlikely package. The O's ain't getting 4 quality young players for two crappy veterans and a solid young vet. The O's can stop smokin' anytime now, if that is the deal they want.

  19. Agreed. I lost my head for a few posts, but I am trying to get away from "That debate of better conference" back into what the Bears should do.
  20. I would like to see anything that could back up this statement. Statistical breakdowns of each player's performance show Kobe's best seasons roughly approach the level of play that MJ averaged over the course of his career. Seconded.
  21. Ok, enough of the whole "Big Ten .v. SEC" battle, because there is no comparasion...... ANYHOO......back on topic, I would fully support the Bears doing one of three things: 1: Trading the pick. The 49ers and the Cowboys seem like Naturally FITS. I am do not fully understand, nor care to understand formula that surrrounds the value of the draft picks via trades, but something like: Cowboys #22 pick and #59 pick for the Bears for the #14 and 75th picks would be an ideal trade, IMO for both teams. (Essentially a 1st/2nd rd pick for a 1st and a 3rd pick, and seeing as the Cowboys would be moving up in both the 1st and 3rd rds, I would say they include a 4th or 5th rd pick). 2: Taking either an OL or a DB. My choices would be either Sam Baker for OL or Kenny Phillips for S. But if Malcolm Kelly happens to slip to the 14th pick (and past Buffalo), I wouldn't mind seeing the Bears take Kelly. 3: The ONLY players I want the Bears to draft from the Big Easy, I mean the Big 10 are: LBers or OL, period.
