  1. He's attack the post, not you. When you read just about the same thing, rephrased, it tends to give people headaches. The bottomline is....we shouldn't be "looking" for a leadoff hitter, we should be "looking" for the players who can get on base at atleast a solid amount of time (To me that's .350 or higher). Leadoff hitter is a myth, and that therelies the problem? You (and the Cubs) believe in the myth that is the leadoff hitter, and people are trying to tell you, there is NO SUCH THING as a leadoff hitter. If the guy can get on base at a .350 or higher clip, IDC if he is slower then Sid Bream stuck in mud.....more players on base, means more opportunity to score, which means it gives the Cubs a better chance to win. So again, dexter isn't attacking you, he's attack this silly idea that every team needs a "leadoff hitter." I'd prefer Todd Walker over Juan Pierre, due to the fact that Walker had a higher OBP.
  2. That Orlando Merced at bat was sweet. Aside from the rivalry issue, I personally enjoy having the ability to watch games a Miller Park, even if it is not a Cubs game. Even if the Brewers move to the AL, I'd go to see games there just to see baseball at a good facility (not a knock on Wrigley, but I do enjoy Miller Park). There have been few moments in time, in which I felt "exhausted" after watching a Cub game, and two of those teams happen to be "Cubs/Brewers games" that ended in walk off homeruns. The Orlando Merced blast, and this past season, the ARam blast. So to anybody who's knocking the Cubs/Brewers rivalry, needs to realize both teams are now becoming good, which means are going to take on a more "intense" feeling.
  3. Is that a mohawk or a mullet? Yes.
  4. I won't call the Cubs/Brewers rivalry "forced", but it is still a nice rivalry. There have been "moments" that have made the rivalry intense. Like how about that weekend in September of 1998? When the Cubs took 2 of 3 from the Brewers and the scores of that weekend were, 13-11(Mil), 15-12 (CHC), and 11-10 in 10 innings (CHC)? That was arguably one of the most EXCITING weekends in Cubs history. And the ONE at-bat, I remember was Orlando Merced's bomb to end the 2nd game, in which the Cubs score 5 runs in the 9th to beat Milwaukee. With that said, I wouldn't mind seeing the Brewers back in the AL. And it makes sense to move the Brewers back to the AL, because they DON'T have a NATURAL rivalry (ala Cubs/Cards, KC/ST.Lou, Cubs/CWS) But the Brewers did have some nice rivalries with the Indians, the Tigers and especially against the Twins and White Sox. But somehow I just don't see Selig wanting to end that 'rivalry" he created between the Brewers and the Cubs. Not to mention defensively, it makes sense for the Brewers, because then they could rotate both Fielder and Braun between 1B and DH.
  5. Heyman is partially correct. Adding Votto with either pitcher would "be too high of price to pay, that part is correct, but starting off a package with bailey or cuerto, is an insanely high price to pay for a AL Version of Jaso Marquis.
  6. First: Let me apologize for not being ACCURATE with my posts. Second: Technically it was soccr10k who accidently mentions Santana---not by name, but by contract perimeters of what it would take to sign CC. Third: Rather it was I, or somebody else....Johan was going to be brought into the conversation about CC, and what he would look for in a contract. A smart GM would only offer CC, what Zito got (seeing as CC and Zito has had parallel careers so far) http://www.baseball-reference.com/friv/scomp2.cgi?I=sabatc.01:C.C.+Sabathia&st=career The point I was trying to make was...and STILL IS....while players often are overpaid, certain players are not going to live up to his contract, and I believe CC will be one who won't live up to the contract, unless he signs with an NL team.
  7. Yeah, he's gotta end up getting somewhere around $20M per year. There is NO WAY CC is going to get $20 mill, unless it's the Yanks. And IDK if the new Yanks are going to break the bank on a lefty who isn't even in Johan Santana's class. If Johan can't break the $20 mill barrier, then I doubt CC (who has YET to win a Cy Young) gets more then say $15-17 mill per. He won it last year. IDK that. I wasn't paying attention. But still, he's not in Johan Santana class.
  8. We'll, us Americans hate David Beckham, and England can have that [deleted], back.
  9. Santana is getting over 20 mil per year. Ok.....maybe my math was off. But my reasoning is not...CC AIN'T a $20 mill per yr pitcher...but then again, I thought Torii Hunter wasn't an $18 mill per OF, and the Angels "got dumb" when they signed him.
  10. Off the same pitcher if I remember correctly...likely a feat that will never be repeated. AT Dodger Stadium, no less.
  11. Yeah, he's gotta end up getting somewhere around $20M per year. There is NO WAY CC is going to get $20 mill, unless it's the Yanks. 12. I know what you mean. I was tremendously disappointed in Zambrano's offense performance. I mean, really I expected more then 2 hrs and 5 rbis, and I was expected he would draw at least a walk. What kind of hitter is Z if he can only settle for 2 hrs, (when he had 6 in 2006)?
  13. Two of the "greatest" players in the last 50 yrs, getting caught with their hand in the cookie jar (steroids), makes me sad. We should be appreciating what Bonds and Clemens have done in the career, yet what they did to accomplish it, not only tarnish their careers, but also the game of baseball. But hey, they should be accompanying Rose very, very soon.
  14. I thought Michael Myers was a homicidal maniac who was invulnerable to death? Nah, he's the left submariner pitcher that has pitched for teams like DBack, the White Sox and the Yankees.
  15. Which is why you have to be careful when dealing with Beane. Would I trade Street? Prolly not, simple because Beane would ask for Marmol plus....At this stage, if I wouldn't trade Marmol for a more proven closer in Nathan, I wouldn't for Street. I know some people like having a NAME closer, but I prefer a deep bullpen, with a solid closer (like the Cubs) over a crappy bullpen with a great closer (Yankees).
  16. I always thought Travis Hafner looks like Shrek even though he already has a dencent nickname. Hafner is PRONK...Ortiz is like Barney....Mench is SHREK...
  17. Step 6-Cubs win division.Step 7-Cubs win first round of playoffs. Step 8-Cubs win NLCS. Step 9-Cubs win World Series. Step 10-NCCubFan wakes up from dream. Step 11: Admit you have a problem. Step 12: Seeking help. I, RedFlash, am a lifelong Cub fan, and I believe that is a problem........but I can't give up the Cubs.......
  18. Seconded. But the Bears would still need another PLAYMAKING WR if they are not going to re-sign Berrian. I mean, I understand his agent is Rosenhaus, but if Chad Johnson is available, the Bears can top the Redskins offer, anyday. I would offer up the 1st and a 3rd for Chad Johnson, give him the extension (he would be worth the ext, moreso then Berrian) and that would trumps Washington's offer. I wouldn't. Too much to give up. Too many holes to fill. What's the point in having one of the best (and highest paid) WRs in the league when you don't have a decent QB to throw to him or a decent OL to allow the QB time to get the ball to him? It's not as if the Bears are going to fill a need with their 1st rd pick. Outside of Urlacher and Harris, the Bears track record with 1st rders, is abysmal, so trading the 1st rder, so be NO hinderance. The Bears have, I believe, 2 3rd rders this yr, so trading one of them won't hurt the Bears. Not to mention the Bears can still fixed holes with their 2nd, and the other 3rd picks. But giving Grossman (whom I'm convince the Bears will re-sign) a target like Johnson could be his Plaxico Buress. I simply tired of my sports team, not wanting to go after "LEGIT" elite players, because of price. If Chad is truly available, I want the Bears to get him.
  19. Now if we can get Carlosa Zambrano to pitch like the "Nuke" did in the 2nd half, and get Geovany Soto to hit like Crash, then the Cubs will somethin'.
  20. Seconded. But the Bears would still need another PLAYMAKING WR if they are not going to re-sign Berrian. 21. I know it's been mention before, but Hendry has to know to be careful about bidding against himself. I mean, he got beat down at the time for the Pierre trade. Outside of the Indians burp (which I believe proved that O's tried to drum up interests) of Guiterrez/Miller (if it was a real offer, why'd the passed?), no other team has been as seriously connected to Brian Roberts. Which leads me to believe, that most teams either do not Brian Roberts, don't want to pay the O's price for Roberts, or feel convince that Roberts is heading to the Cubs. Either way, this situation needs to be taken of before ST. Don't make a move by Wednesday, then consider the deal dead.
  22. Man, forget Bonds/Kent rivalry, Chicago has had alot of one on one rivalries that would team rivalries jealous. I mean come on....we've had the Jordan .v. Pippen. We've had Sandberg .v. Palmerio. We've had Grace .v. Sosa (the precursor to Kent/Bonds). I'm pretty sure, there was others, but those three rivalries were the biggest in Chicago sports. With that said...the double standard in the media is mindboggling. Hate on Sosa, but not Grace. Hate on Pippen for leaving a game with 1.2 seconds left, but don't hate Jordan for quitting for 3 yrs (the excuse he use was valid, but I believe he used it as an excuse to try that baseball thing). With that said, IDK if there was one player I distasted enough to garner hatred that playe for the Cubs, but there are certainly ones I wish never played for the Cubs. Guys like Blauser, Morandini, etc, etc. But on the flip side there are those, that made great Cubs....Stairs, Karros, Beck, Mulholland, Wendall (the pitcher, not Wavin') even tho they were near the end of the careers, or not very good.
  23. Are you affiliated with the Cubs' organization? If not, how do you know what his work ethic was, because I don't remember ever reading he was lazy. It seemed his problem was always that he was stubborn and refused to change his hitting approach. Combine this with the fact that Dusty tried to turn him into Lou Brock, and therefore pretty much wiped out any of the skills he naturally possessed, and you had a recipe for disaster. If we had left him alone, Patterson never would have become Ken Griffey, but he would have become a very useful player, probably the Khalil Greene of CF's, but with a lot more SB's. How about the fact that CPatt has been playing baseabll for along time, and for the most part he played the game on athlethic ability alone. Once he got into pro baseball, it never "clicked" as a player. He relied on his athlethicism too much, and he NEVER improved. He also chased FASTBALL up, or curveball/slider in the dirt. The only pitches CPatt ever hit were mistake pitches. And yes, I believe Patterson work ethics have been questioned before. I'm not saying having work ethic is the end all, be all to superstardom, because along with work ethic, you have to have to talent to make it work. So yes, I do question Corey Patterson work ethic, and his commitment to playing baseball.
  24. Of all of the overhyped prospects the Cubs had (ie Hill, Cruz, Choi, Patterson, Kelton, blah, blah) Patterson was the biggest disappointment. Because this kid had enough all-around MLB talent to be a really good player (similar to a Steve Finley CALIBER player), but had the work ethic of hobo. If CPatt would have had even a mediocre work ethic, he would be enjoying a multi yr $10 mill+ contract right now, instead of basically begging for a job. With that said, CPatt won't come back to Chicago. I'm kinda surprise Pittsburgh hasn't given CPATT a chance. Or what's even more shocking, Jim Bowden hasn't signed him, yet.
  25. If that is the case, then if the Bears are not going to re-sign Benard Berrian and/or trade for Chad Johnson, then the next best thing would be for Lovie to unlock the doghouse, and allow Bradley a chance to shine. And if Lovie does that, then it will be on Bradley to produce. I mean, Berrian didn't break out till his third yr in the league, and Bradley just finished his third yr. Bradley has so much talent, it's a crime not to use it. With that said, I'll be fine if the Bears want to pick up any WR in this draft, NOT INCLUDING DJ Hall. As a Alabama fan, I was tremendously disappointed with his attitude. This KID along with a few others (I believe Prince Hall, was another) quit on the team, after the LSU game. So, any WR would be fine, outside of Hall.
