  1. Davis keep acting as if it's an absolute miracle that the Bears are even hanging around with the 49ers, let alone leading the game
  2. Broken play, but it's nice to have an athlete who can break a play like that
  3. Handing it off on 3rd and 4 against this defense ain't gonna cut it. Facemask bailed them out, but it's not a good playcall.
  4. Of course it's a real rule, just one that no one has ever thrown a flag on before How many times have you seen a holder use a towel to dry the field and a flag isn’t called? I don't think I've ever seen a holder try to do that until today
  5. Tuchel was sacked after the game. Assuming that will be good news for Pulisic, because Tuchel sure wasn't going to have him in the lineup unless absolutely forced.
  6. Internationally, I think the US is a good analog for a mid-teir Prem club
  7. Fulham looking to get a LB... [tweet] [/tweet]
  8. Saw someone mention that he's a top 15 hitter AND top 15 pitcher right now. I wonder how good he could hit if he didn't pitch at all.
  9. Not that wins and losses matter right now but seems like he punted on one game to have a marginally better shot at another game. Who is all that compelling that the Cubs would want to use this weird exemption to call up? Kilian pitched today (and got shelled). Based on his tweeting history it doesn't sound like Wesneski will be able to go to Toronto (unless he's against vaccinations but ended up getting it for baseball reasons). Edit: Saw some discussion a couple of posts up. Sounds like it makes sense. Maybe he did it to play games with the 40-man? Seems like they won't have to put Little or Estrada on yet
  10. There are better ways to do things. Move the mound back, make a limit on the number of pitchers on a 25/26 man roster. Don't make it a different sport. moving the mound back seems like a much bigger change than just eliminating one hitter from the lineup to me. I dont think there will ever be dramatic changes to the mound, pitchers are already dying at stunning rates, changing up what they do seems like a disaster Would lowering the mound make any significant difference either to pitcher health or to help hitters?

  12. I know it's not the draft thread, but with the draft discussion, I'd love for there to be a guy with huge bonus demands that falls to wherever they end up picking, and then they punt on a couple extra top 10 rd picks...

  14. Is he even relevant at this point? I mean, I guess if he just goes off . . . the other candidates seem to have all gone backwards. I think I have him 3rd in the pecking order now behind Ferreira and Pefok, with Pepi falling fast. Yeah, if Pepi can't get minutes at Augsburg, he should be in danger of missing out on Qatar. Pefok doesn't seem to offer much other than being an aerial target at the international level, so Sargent - if he keeps scoring - should have a shot at making the roster at least.
  15. What was your favorite moment of the Simmons era? Today.
  16. Also, how are guys getting suspended and kicked out of the league for Marijuana use and this dude openly talks about using ayahuasca and nobody bats an eye?
  17. I wonder if they'll give Kilian any time on the Development List (has he already been there?) to try and remedy the control issues. Regardless, I bet they keep him down the rest of the year. Let him work in AAA and see if he can get ML hitters out next spring? SP is really the position that they can probably most upgrade next year (in terms of our SP has sucked so much this year outside of Stro recently and solid work from Steele and Thompson), but idk who is even available.
  18. Yeah it's really as simple as this. I'm sure Brett or somebody will try to bring up the Qualifying Offer but that's horsefeathers. It'll be like the 75th pick, more than that that was certainly on the table this deadline. An absolute debacle if there's no extension. That said, assuming they do extend, you go into the winter with a mostly complete lineup already. C - Contreras 1B - Wisdom 2B - Madrigal SS - Hoerner 3B - Morel LF - Happ CF - Ortega/Nelly platoon RF - Seiya Bench - Mckinstry, Gomes, Higgins, Bote Iowa - Davis, Mervis, Amaya, Canario That's... actually a really solid group. Payroll's ~$165M, so you can add one more big bat and further push out some of the chaff from the bottom of the roster. Madrigal sucks. Wisdom is fine, but very replaceable. Ortega/Nelly is probably around replacement level. Need Bogaerts/Correa/Turner and maybe a CF, unless they think Davis will bounce back from injury and be ready early next year. And obviously, need SP, because a rotation of Stroman/Hendricks/Steele/Thompson/whoever just isn't good enough because Kyle is a 5th man in a good rotation and Steele/Thompson probably aren't better than 4th for a WS hopeful.
  19. Let's hope they overpaid. Effross seems like a legit dude with 5 years of control
  20. Fantastic, should make teams more interested in Robertson and Givens
  21. Shoot for the moon, baby. I know he only mentions that those teams "would fit" but I doubt the Rays are in on him.
  22. Figure we can have individual threads for big trades... ETA: I don't love the return. Would have rather taken a chance on a lottery ticket, but I guess we will see what happens.
  23. Figured something was up. Hope she is recovering well.
