  1. Didn't he also have shoulder surgery?
  2. Does Madrigal have options?
  3. Bad angle by Happ, but it doesn't matter. Ran out of pitching.
  4. I'm sure Ross will say it's because of defense, but man that bottom of the order has to suck to see as a pitcher making his debut.
  5. I wondered the same thing, and especially to have him out there in a situation where a sacrifice fly wins the game. He had no chance whatsoever to throw a runner out on anything but the shallowest of fly balls. Yeah, that Morel flyout wasn't particularly deep, and Heyward beat the throw by plenty
  6. On one hand, it's nice to have huge teams interested in our young guys. On the other, I don't want them buried or loaned out to crappy teams in crappy leagues. I was listening to an episode of the In Soccer We Trust podcast (Jimmy Conrad, Heath Pearce and Charlie Davies) and they had Erik Palmer-Brown on and he talked about what it was like to go to Man City so young and then when he didn't get the "exceptional young player" designation or whatever and couldn't get a work visa for England, he basically just trained with the reserves and loan guys until they could find a loan spot for him and then talked about the difficulties of going on loan to different teams every year. It was a really good look at the way the system works for these guys if they can't catch on. Obviously, the training at top flight clubs is better than your average club, but I value actual playing time more, especially at more mid-tier clubs in those big leagues. Clubs like Brighton, Wolves, Crystal Palace, etc. Basically the equivalent of the USMNT in the world scheme. Not a favorite to win it all, but on the right day can beat anyone and should beat up on the lower level teams.
  7. My team sucks Bench transaction: Add Mike Trout Drop Bobby Witt Jr
  8. Comically bad defense late today
  9. But none of them can shoot Johnson shot 38%. Though he's not a shooter, he can hit an open shot at time. Bates and Hood-Scifino have the ability to hit shots as well. CJ Gunn, who I haven't mentioned is an incoming freshman that projects as a shooter as well. None of them are really big time shooters, but part of the reason I wanted TJD to go is because I think they'd play more wide open and potentially get more shots from the outside to find guys that can make shots. Johnson looked awful every time I saw him play (which admittedly wasn't much) so I'm surprised he shot that well. They've got all kinds of talent for sure, will just be interesting to see if they can shoot well enough. They'll surely play D and rebound well, especially with TJD back
  10. But none of them can shoot
  11. Given the Cubs current situation, getting rid of Heyward adds minimal benefit both financially or talent wise. If you want to get rid of Contreras including Heyward only lessens the prospect in return and fattens the Ricketts' pockets. So you're saying we should keep Heyward because we don't want to fatten Rickett's pockets any more? He's saying don't get rid of Heyward that way. If you trade Willson, you get the best return possible. You don't use him to dump a bad contract, especially only with only a year and a half left.
  12. Most definitely. Noticed it last night on the final play and it certainly looks that was tonight. Maybe they decided Vargas was so bad out there that they're willing to risk Simmons while Nico is out.
  13. not really following the game... is Schwindel playing over Rivas? if he is, why? Dude was a flash in the pan, a good story for a couple months in a bad season, but it's over. Rivas seems like a poor man's Mark Grace, whereas Schwindel is a poor man's Bryan LaHair
  14. Drop: Kris Bryant Add: Kyle Schwarber
  15. Pretty sure I saw a tweet from Wainwright last week that said something about needing 2 negative tests
  16. Nice top of the 1st from Steele. Ortega jumped on a FB and doubled to lead off, and Willy drove him in. 1-0 Cubs after 1
  17. Any IL fans here want to weigh in on him? Undersized, but solid. Had some injuries this past year, think an ankle injury maybe? He's played a lot of football, will be interesting to see if he can make the roster.
  18. I mean, he played with MVP Kris Bryant and Javy when he was almost MVP... Suzuki may be awesome, and let's hope so!, but come on Willy. 2 weeks of great play is all well and good, but slow your roll.
  19. So far, the Brewers have hit poorly, and pitched maybe even worse. Ian Happ probably won't play, which sucks because he has been awesome. Pretty excited to watch Stro as we go for the season-opening sweep. Go Cubs!
  20. I think those of us who submitted by the original deadline should get all of our dongs from the early games counted
  21. Cubs are in 1st place, thanks to a strong start from Kyle, and nice days at the plate from Ian Happ, Seiya Suzuki, Jason Heyward, and everybody's favorite dongsmith, Nico Hoerner. Pitching matchup looks to favor the Brewers, but maybe the shortened ramp up will continue to hinder power pitchers, as it seemed to take Burnes a while to get comfortable today.
  22. The Cubs have a chance to take 1st place for the first time since June 24 of 2021, after which they lost 11 straight and found themselves 6.5 games out of first. But it's a new year! We have Marcus Stroman (who will start our 3rd game because both he and Kyle are RH and don't throw too hard, I guess)! And Seiya Suzuki - who is actually worth getting excited about! And we still have Kyle, who will hopefully be helped today by cold weather and not give up too many dongs. Go Cubs!
  23. Was it in all caps? Did he hit enter too quickly multiple times? If not, it obviously wasn't JI JIM THOME
  24. C WIllson Contreras $75 1B Matt Olson $200 2B Brandon Lowe $200 3B Josh Donaldson $75 SS Bo Bichette $75 LF Kris Bryant $75 CF Cody Bellinger $25 RF Nick Castellanos $100 DH Juan Soto $75 Total: $900
