  1. I don't know but its insane. I am assuming at least 1-2 of those contracts may turn out to be bad but they have so many locked up long term that they can afford to miss on a couple of them. Even if they're bad, they're only "bad" on like a Bote level in that they're paid more than they're worth, but still not so much that it hinders them from doing anything else.
  2. That snap was atrocious
  3. E-I E-I E-I-U!
  4. Nah, the 100 Million he's giving them in luxury tax payments will buy him plenty of goodwill
  5. Gonna be hilarious when the Mets still miss the playoffs.
  6. seems to be a 24 based on this tweet, that still has the Cubs as favorites to sign him
  7. A number of teams are all in on the soft stuff catchers provide. The Astros with Maltin Maldonado and Yankees with basically everyone they've run out post Gary Sanchez are the prime examples. The Dodgers before Will Smith were leaning on Austin Barnes a lot more than anyone thought they should have too. It's en vogue for a lot of smart teams right now. And like even in our own back yard check out how Cubs pitchers performed last year with Gomes behind the plate vs. with Contreras. It's a stark difference. There's obviously a huge appeal to authority happening here, which isn't great, but at least the Cubs aren't alone in making it. I would very much prefer Perez (who does more of the obvious catcher defense things very well) or Casali (who's a pretty good offensive catcher) even going down this route. I think the only thing Barnhart does well that's quantifiable is hit left handed. One ray of sunshine on the catcher front is Miguel Amaya. Even after missing most of two seasons, he projects very well. He's likely an option in the second half. While the Yankees, Astros, and Dodgers (pre-Smith) have run out mostly defensive catchers, they've also had the luxury of doing so because of their deep lineups. When you have a lineup that doesn't have any below average hitters elsewhere, it's easy to put one at C
  8. When he's not getting killed, Fields is looking really good
  9. When you only have to watch 7 full games to beat the number...
  10. response from Gio on IG (essentially a middle finger in Gregg's direction)
  11. Breaking news, 19 year old kid who has incredible talent is pissed he isn't going to start in the biggest sporting event in the world - the biggest stage imaginable that he's probably dreamed of since the first time he saw his dad play in the same tournament - and handles it poorly. Yeah, put the kid in his place privately and move on, but then for a grown man to throw him under the bus is just stupid. Edit: between this blow-up and his roster selection (Wright and Ferreira over Pefok/Pepi/Vasquez, Ream playing every minute of the WC after not playing a single WCQ after game 1 of the octagonal [which is more of a mistake in regards to qualifying than him playing in the WC]), a failure to rotate the squad in the WC leading to our midfield and FBs being run into the ground and getting destroyed against the Dutch, etc. I don't know how you could keep him.
  12. Apparently Grant Wahl collapsed and died during the Argentina-Netherlands match today and his brother thinks he was murdered.
  13. Also, I'm predicting someone gets a red card in extra time
  14. That was incredible
  15. every time someone says "if lebron james played soccer!!!!" i think of how modric would eat his lunch for 90 minutes and laugh He could probably be a good GK, but yeah, the insane skill of guys like Modric is awesome and is about so much more than athleticism.
  16. After Louisville’s coach went to Cincinnati. Arguably both lateral moves, although I understand Brohm is all about going back to his Alma mater. Heard someone make the argument that they think Brohm went to Louisville this time because the talent at Purdue is drying up a bit. First time Louisville went after him, they had Karlaftis, Moore, Bell, etc. and he wanted to ride that out. Now, they think he's not so confident in the last couple recruiting classes and coupled with Matt Painter's seeming disinterest in NIL on the basketball side, Brohm got to Louisville where he's got a fresh start and should have plenty of NIL backing in a conference that seems safe for now from the realignment stuff because of the ACC's grant of rights. Also, with B1G divisions likely going away and the coming addition of USC, their hopes of a conference title are essentially gone. Wouldn't expect a B1G champ other than Michigan, OSU, USC, or maybe PSU unless someone else has a truly special year. ACC seems more winnable
  17. Seems like we need a sort of consolidation trade - a few lower level pitchers and/or bats for a ML bat or a SP we can put at the top of the rotation
  18. Sabol already traded to the Giants for PTBNL and cash
  19. You just know Cards fans are going to turn on him so fast at his first extended slump.
  20. Passan says 5 years, 87.5M
  21. I don't like that. Not sure who the replacement should be, but it hasn't gone well when we've had National Team managers try to go past one cycle
  22. Should at least provide very good CF defense, and hopefully a cromulent amount of offense against RHP. Don't let him hit against any lefties.
  23. That's pretty great news. Need as many competitive games between now and '26 as possible.
  24. I hope they throw around some cash and sign a couple good bats and get a SP we can slot in a playoff rotation, but I'll believe it when I see it.
