  1. I feel like Happ ought to bring back no less than a top 100 guy as the headliner. They don't HAVE to trade him.
  2. yeah but he's talking about the constraints that ownership puts on the GM. you can spend whatever you want on a car, but if you tell your kid they can only spend 60%, they can only spend 60% He said the Cubs as an organization shouldn’t have budget constraints but they do. The Cubs as an organization don’t have budget constraints. The owners are being cheap and don’t want to spend. We’re not the A’s or the Rays. They have budget constraints. EDIT: Regardless, the Ricketts suck and I know we can all agree on that. While they don't have as much money as the other owners, let's not pretend that ANYONE who owns a professional sports team doesn't have enough money to pay anyone. They're all ridiculously rich. They just don't want to cut into their profit margin, just like every other rich bastard in this country.
  3. I hope the crowd today gives Willson a standing O at every opportunity
  4. Pretty sure I saw the sticking point is guaranteed $ in the 3rd year, like in the manner of around $100k
  5. Just saw something referencing the ASG being in Seattle next year and it led me to look... Colorado, Seattle, San Diego, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh have all hosted the ASG twice since it was last at Wrigley. Pittsburgh and SD at least had new stadiums, but the other 3 have had it twice in the same park. I know its not a huge deal, but when the Cubs are good again (2024?) It would be nice to see then host the ASG at Wrigley.
  6. Main Roster Transactions: Drop: Cody Bellinger ($25) Add: George Springer ($75) Drop: Brandon Lowe ($200) - how did I not know he missed 2 months with a back injury? smh Add: Jazz Chisolm ($50) Edit: lol, and now Chisolm hurt his back. Can I just cancel this transaction since you didn't clear it yet? Future Idea - we should get to pick one hitter in the HRD at the ASG and add their total HRs (or a % of them) to our total
  7. Not only his production at catcher, but how many players at any position can they get that match his production at the plate? In 78 games this year, Willson has a 130 OPS+, good for 37th in the league (and the team lead) right now.
  8. I wonder how much different it is just from extra innings numbers, given the fact that most teams have an army of guys who throw 97+ out of the bullpen, and the fact that the runner starts there and you didn't just give up a leadoff double. I imagine that psychologically there's a least a little difference, and then add in that sometimes your runner on 2nd with 0 outs is there because he hit a rocket off a crappy starter who needs to go 4+ innings, so he's out there without his best stuff and is more likely to give up more hits.
  9. Bench Transaction: Drop - Spencer Torkelson Add - Julio Rodriguez Main Roster Transactions: (beginning total - $925) Drop - Josh Donaldson Add - Austin Riley (+$25) Drop - Nick Castellanos Add - Yordan Alvarez (neutral $)
  10. Trading DeBrincat would also help you suck next year, when I know there is at least one tank worthy player st the top.
  11. FS1 still doesn't know that Jedi's first name isn't Anthony
  12. Hoping for no injuries as they play on a crappy field in a monsoon.
  13. Didn't he also have shoulder surgery?
  14. Does Madrigal have options?
  15. Bad angle by Happ, but it doesn't matter. Ran out of pitching.
  16. I'm sure Ross will say it's because of defense, but man that bottom of the order has to suck to see as a pitcher making his debut.
  17. I wondered the same thing, and especially to have him out there in a situation where a sacrifice fly wins the game. He had no chance whatsoever to throw a runner out on anything but the shallowest of fly balls. Yeah, that Morel flyout wasn't particularly deep, and Heyward beat the throw by plenty
  18. On one hand, it's nice to have huge teams interested in our young guys. On the other, I don't want them buried or loaned out to crappy teams in crappy leagues. I was listening to an episode of the In Soccer We Trust podcast (Jimmy Conrad, Heath Pearce and Charlie Davies) and they had Erik Palmer-Brown on and he talked about what it was like to go to Man City so young and then when he didn't get the "exceptional young player" designation or whatever and couldn't get a work visa for England, he basically just trained with the reserves and loan guys until they could find a loan spot for him and then talked about the difficulties of going on loan to different teams every year. It was a really good look at the way the system works for these guys if they can't catch on. Obviously, the training at top flight clubs is better than your average club, but I value actual playing time more, especially at more mid-tier clubs in those big leagues. Clubs like Brighton, Wolves, Crystal Palace, etc. Basically the equivalent of the USMNT in the world scheme. Not a favorite to win it all, but on the right day can beat anyone and should beat up on the lower level teams.
  19. My team sucks Bench transaction: Add Mike Trout Drop Bobby Witt Jr
  20. Comically bad defense late today
  21. But none of them can shoot Johnson shot 38%. Though he's not a shooter, he can hit an open shot at time. Bates and Hood-Scifino have the ability to hit shots as well. CJ Gunn, who I haven't mentioned is an incoming freshman that projects as a shooter as well. None of them are really big time shooters, but part of the reason I wanted TJD to go is because I think they'd play more wide open and potentially get more shots from the outside to find guys that can make shots. Johnson looked awful every time I saw him play (which admittedly wasn't much) so I'm surprised he shot that well. They've got all kinds of talent for sure, will just be interesting to see if they can shoot well enough. They'll surely play D and rebound well, especially with TJD back
  22. But none of them can shoot
  23. Given the Cubs current situation, getting rid of Heyward adds minimal benefit both financially or talent wise. If you want to get rid of Contreras including Heyward only lessens the prospect in return and fattens the Ricketts' pockets. So you're saying we should keep Heyward because we don't want to fatten Rickett's pockets any more? He's saying don't get rid of Heyward that way. If you trade Willson, you get the best return possible. You don't use him to dump a bad contract, especially only with only a year and a half left.
