  1. That game was painfully dull and sloppy. Really shouldn't have been scheduled.
  2. I just think that Trestman is going to want to focus on offense with that first rounder. If they can get a speedy guy like Austin, they can get rid of Hester, and let Austin take that WR spot, along with KR/PR duties. I'm fine with focusing on offense, but it should be an offensive lineman. You need 5 of them just to play a game and 6-7 to last a season. WR is a 2-3 man group on the field at most times. They've already devoted a ton of cash to receiving threat at TE and have a great receiving RB. A weak link on an offensive line can negatively affect the rest of the line. A weak link at receiver can just play special teams all day.
  3. I certainly wouldn't mind if they come up with another stud WR in this draft, but I'd hesitate to focus on that position early in the draft. Marshall is only just now 29. He's signed for 2 more years and he's not exactly leveraged for a huge contract next time. They utilized 2 3s on him and a 2 on Jeffery already. I think they can afford to wait on WR more so than just about any position, save QB and RB.
  4. 2007. Pittsburgh has been throwing money at prospects for much longer than that. They just suck at it.
  5. It certainly hurts smart small-market teams like the Rays and Pirates more than anyone else (including smart big market teams). But if you were never willing to use the draft and international free agency to your advantage beforehand, then I agree the CBA doesn't hurt any market size specifically. The Pirates are a smart small-market team? Since when?
  6. Absolutely. Angelo solidified things with free agents in the mid-2000s, but that does not last. Emery already went through one draft ignoring the line, if he does it again this year then next season we'll be right back into the "pretty much forced to take a lineman in the first two rounds situation and then wind up overdrafting somebody" situation that Angelo found himself.
  7. Well, it could happen, but you're still talking rookie guards. How much impact will they have in year 1? The tackle position may be stabilized but it's not exactly all that good.
  8. Screw those people then. They haven't missed the playoffs in 20 years, have 4 cups in 15 years and have a crapload of division titles (not that they mean a lot in hockey) of late. If that fan base can't deal with an off year they blow. Of all the teams in that market they should have some leeway.
  9. Potentially yeah but it's hard to say top half OL when they would not have anyone who was even close to the top half at their position last year for a full pro season. Not sure how Jon Scott elicited the thoughts of top half. He's not really an option at tackle, he should be nothing more than a last resort backup if somebody else is hurt during a game. I think they've stabilized the line. But the best thing they've done is allow themselves flexibility to not be forced into drafting an offensive lineman in the first. They still probably should draft one there anyway.
  10. Disagree with Theo about what? That he should take several years before trying to make the team any good.
  11. Agreed. This is such a stupid point of view. You have to be for tanking multiple seasons or you don't deserve the front office that is tanking multiple seasons. Trying to ridicule any fan who has the audacity to want his team not to suck for multi-year stretches.
  12. That isn't a plan, that is a goal.
  13. Anybody can build a great team eventually if they tank multiple seasons and suffer no repercussions for losing as often as the Cubs have lost. It's the easy way out. The timeline matters.
  14. Which should have been unacceptable from the outset.
  15. Or it very easily might cost them half that. Or nothing. Or some other amount we that we have no idea about. In what dream world? In the world where a few suburbs are fighting to get the Cubs cash cow to come to their location and leave Wrigley Field? They aren't really fighting. And they aren't going to foot the bill for half a billion. They will already have to count on government assistance building new access roads to handle the overflow that a stadium would create. They aren't also going to get a ton of cash to build the stadium itself.
  16. Or it very easily might cost them half that. Or nothing. Or some other amount we that we have no idea about. In what dream world?
  17. WGN was showing you day baseball games at Wrigley Field. Wrigley Field still exists, WGN's relevance does not.
  18. A park and a parking lot Depends on how they do the parking. If they were to build parking garages instead of an open parking lot, I would think they'd have room to build a few businesses. Maybe I'm overestimating the possibilities. Edit: Just an example, the Twins new Target Field is built on an 8 acre plot. Why couldn't the Cubs do something similar? It's a baseball team, they aren't going to be building an amusement park and car wash. I'm talking about restaurants, bars, team shop, etc. A new "Wrigleyville" area that is essentially owned entirely by the Cubs. What are the yearly revenues of the businesses directly surrounding Wrigley (that profit from the Cubs popularity) and what would it do for the Cubs to add that revenue to the club? It is already going to cost them at least $1B to build a new stadium. Then it will cost them several hundred million to build a fake Wrigleyville complex surrounding the ballpark to distract people from realizing they are in Rosemont. They aren't going to do it. Thankfully.
  19. The last regime had so much tied into the LB position that it negatively affected their ability to address other needs. I like filling LB with lower cost players. Look at what the Giants did in their Super Bowl year, they were running out street free agents that postseason. Their cap space went to pass rushers, DBs and the QB. Linebackers just don't impact the game enough to account for so much cap space.
  20. An F-650? I've driven an F-450 a couple times and that was a beast.
  21. Ooooh, thanks Paul. GAH, Rizzo GIDP.
  22. Broncos are probably in the running as the NFL has tended to make that an intra-conference matchup. Super Bowl winners at Peyton Manning would be an easy sell.
  23. Would be awesome to get the Thursday game done that early. Do they not have Thursday games for teams who play the opener? Just last year the Giants played the opener and then played a Thursday night game 2 weeks later. After Green Bay played the opener they played a Thanksgiving game. I wouldn't mind facing Baltimore in week one and having extra time to prepare for week 2.
  24. Really? I'm not sure that makes a whole lot of sense. Don't the beloved guys often take a little discount to stay home?
  25. Brad Biggs ‏@BradBiggs 2m #Ravens announce they will open 2013 season with road game Thursday, Sept. 5. Wonder if #Bears could be in play? They host Baltimore this yr
