  3. What's a "soccer jersey"
  4. It's all vague nonsense anyhow, and it's voted on by three guys with different views on the game; Bowden, Olney and Law. That category was 27 a year ago and in their August update, and is 25 now. They were ranked 13th overall a year ago and 16th overall at the August update, now they move to 6. I'm not sure what the downgrade is supposed to mean, but I would guess it has something to do with perceived ownership issues (flat payroll, a stall in Wrigley renovation talks and other teams raking in more and more cash via TV).
  5. almora is the only idiot that got engaged
  6. I think they are going out of their way to get everything they possible can to start maximizing revenue streams out of Wrigley. That includes gaining public support for their plans, which entails reassuring people they will be subtle, classy and respectable. But there's no reason to assume they won't use a jumbotron for gimmicky nonsense, because that is the only reason to have a jumbotron.
  7. It kinda is when they've gone on record to say that it would be. I guess that would be the first time a sports team's owner hasn't been completely up-front about something, so you're right. Yea, Ricketts is a regular Loria. Also, what are you so mad about? I'm not sure why you think a jumbotron wouldn't be used for gimmicks. Those gimmicks are sponsored. It's not just a kiss-cam, it's the bud light kiss-cam.
  8. They do? I haven't heard that sentiment in a while.
  9. They could always DL him retroactive to a point in March that allows them to carry an additional player for a few games until his scheduled start (unless MLB has some sort of rule against that I'm not aware of).
  10. I like the pinstripes, but that all-white is pretty nice. I'm not sure what the anti-pinstripe thought process is though. It's a good look.

  12. The problem is nobody is going to trade for #1 because there aren't any QBs worth taking there. QB won't go top 3 now, so a team can give up less and trade for 3 or 4. Joeckel isn't trade up worthy considering how close Eric Fisher is on his heels. Nobody's trading up for Star now. Nobody's trading up for a pass rusher. They're probably keeping #1 or getting monumentally less than the Rams got for #2 last year. You don't have to get a huge haul, but the odds of somebody willing to give up something to make sure they land their guy are pretty good, even in a down draft. Of course, this plan worked a lot better when that trade helps you backfill the mid-rounder you gave up for Smith/Foles, but instead it's going to be #34 plus maybe more so they end up behind the "Draft Geno" plan now no matter what. With the new constraints on rookie deals, that 1st pick is more valuable, however, with no clear-cut number 1, the demand cannot be that high. They will probably be better off trading the best guy they can get than trading down for pennies on the dollar just to trade down.
  13. He doesn't need to be any slower.

  15. But the point is he was hyped as top ten in places based on the intangibles, which were completely erased with the hoax story. It was stupid to hype him like that before, but it is not stupid to have this hoax exposed. The 40 reiterated that while he was a nice college linebacker, he's not a physical stud deserving of some of the praise he received before. He can be a solid player.
  16. Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter Manti Te'o does not make out of the first round. Manti Te'o also doesn't make out with women.

  18. I didn't notice the post between, about kits and whatnot. I'm not a fan of those forced futbolisms myself, but that's not what I was referring to in my other post and don't compare to the other ways people talk stupidly about futbol.
  19. Describing little white guys as gritty grinders is the language of the game but it's no less stupid.
  20. I think it's a bit annoying how many people are saying how great this is, when really it's only great for a select handful of teams. It's great for one division, the NY/NJ/PA teams, DET and CBS and probably CAR, who go from a bunch of nondescript rivals to a bunch of big name ones. Chicago kind of gets screwed by losing a rival and gaining none, as opposed to Detroit losing Chicago but gaining others. The time zone thing is a concern, but these aren't people with 9-5 jobs who have to wake up at the same early time every morning and get their kids ready to school after a rough business trip. And half the league still has to deal with much more substantial travel than the other half. I don't think the plan is horrible, but I don't get the universal praise I've seen based almost exclusively on making life easier for Detroit and the almost ideal set-up of one division.
  21. http://deadspin.com/5986826/gareth-bales-last+minute-goal-is-one-of-this-seasons-best I enjoy watching some futbol but I find the way people talk about the game annoying. His sheer nerve was laudable? Come on, that's the kind of stuff FJM used to rip from myth making baseball writers. I'm not sure if it's a matter of scoring being relatively rare so that when it does happen people have to find hyperbolic ways of describing how the player accomplished the feat, or if it's a matter of the sport being the only game in town for so many markets, and therefore the myth making bullshitters are left unchecked to spout their nonsense. But why is it that American viewers, who are so often the types who have learned to be more objective and sensible when it comes to discussing baseball, and to a lesser extent football, still carrying on with the European way of describing futbol action? It was a tie game against a team they should beat. He's very good and was lying on the ground with little time remaining. He noticed everybody vacated his area and when he got up nobody came very close to him again, so when he got the ball back he made one move and took a shot. It was terrific shot that a only a very skilled player could make (I assume), but there's no reason to get all "his nerve was laudable" about it. He's a professional athlete paid to score goals and he did that.
