  1. What do you want them to do? They have a player who is healthy enough to play but doesn't want to play. What can you expect a team to do in that situation?
  2. It's not entirely clear, but your stance sure suggested you thought it was. I really don't see how the head would shoot back like that if he wasn't hit in the head. It's not necessarily dirty, but its' on the players to not hit heads. I also think it's pointless to point out hits that don't draw suspensions in response to ones that do. There are a lot of suspendable hits in this league. If they all actually drew suspensions rosters would dwindle in a hurry. I see nothing wrong with suspending a guy on a hit like that that draws an injury. You don't get in trouble for every crime/infraction you commit in your life, just the ones you get caught doing. If the guy you hit gets injured that's a good way to get caught. So keep blindly shooting your gun and we will not punish you until you actually shot someone? My bigger issue with NHL suspensions is not that they suspend the outcome as much as there is clearly a different standard for different players. But it would be best if they had a set standard for punishable hits that was easy to understand. Then a set table of suspensions for such hits/plays. Kind of takes out the whole wheel of justice perception that the NHL currently has. I said it earlier, Gryba got suspended more for his status as a player as for the actual hit. How do you get that out of what I said? It doesn't make any sense to point out instances of guys not getting suspended to defend against a suspension. That doesn't mean it's fine to do all that stuff until you kill somebody. The point is it is unreasonable to expect them to catch and punish every suspendable hit. You will always be able to find equivalent or comparable ones that didn't draw a penalty or a suspension. That does not mean a suspension on your hit is unwarranted.

  4. what did he hit first? Chest. Gryba is a big boy. He made a play on a stupid pass as Eller's head was down. It is unfortunate but not dirty, illegal or even reckless. What is Gryba supposed to do? let Eller have an easy break out. I don't know how the head moves the way it does if he hit the chest first.
  5. what did he hit first?
  6. It doesn't need to be said. It's clear as day. It's his teammates that deserve respect. Not Rose. It doesn't need to be said, but just in case, that's about all you've said for 3+ pages of this thread. Because you keep pretending it is inappropriate to say it.
  7. It looked dirty, but the more I see it the less certain I am that I could point out the dirty part.
  8. hope he's not uncomfortable
  9. I like sabrcat
  10. A number that would be easily offset by the number that would not go because it's not in wrigley field. There is not some magical numbers of Cubs fans dying to attend Cubs games if only they were located somewhere else.

  12. No it isn't, but not playing through non-injury is always the wrong move. I think the vilification has been way under the bottom. The excuse making has been astounding to me. I'm surprised he's getting such a free pass.
  13. Our idiot media slayed Mark Prior and Kerry Wood for years. They were criticized for getting hurt in the first place.
  14. Who I just damned to hell on national television.
  15. But Jordan retired, while Rose is just sitting out because he's uncomfortable. He's healthy enough to play but doesn't want to. He's under contract, getting paid, taking up salary cap space but he just doesn't want to play. They have to handle him with kid gloves because that is the nature of having a star in the NBA. But don't pretend that fans don't have the right to be upset that he's sitting out with a case of the uncomfortables.
  16. I think everybody is aware. If they were then they shouldn't expect them to go away. I just don't see what the Cubs get out of it. No one goes to the games or tunes into the broadcast for the stretch, so why give a free media junket stop for every movie star and musician? How often has sportscenter or some other entity shown the guest conductor? Wrigley probably accounts for 90% of all "look at the goofy thing that happened in the booth" stories you see out there. There is probably very little to gain for them from having the dregs come through, but every once in a while they get Eddie Vedder or some other A-list and it adds to the allure of the stadium. It also something they can market, both in terms of having something to offer corporate partners and random Chicago area prize winners, and in advertising dollars.
  17. You expect Soler to spend the whole year in high A? That would be incredibly disappointing to me. I think his approach is advanced enough already that he can move quickly. He probably should spend most of the year there unless he starts ripping the league. There's 29 guys out OPSing him in the FSL now, enough for 2.5 guys per team. There's 12 guys with a 100+ point OPS advantage. He's just now barely at the point where he's got half a season of professional playing time under his belt. He's probably a couple years away from the majors. There shouldn't be a rush to see him in AA.
  18. http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/sports/Wrigley-Rooftop-to-Advertise-United-Airlines-118849114.html This indicates there was some sort of agreement between that owner and the Cubs. They had the Budweiser flap and then Horseshoe Casino, which was blocked by the Cubs. But that states the Cubs announced United was the new advertiser in 2011 as part of a larger Cubs/United partnership. Interesting. Given the fact that they had some sort of partnership, I wonder if they are compensating the building owner in some way for rendering advertising on that roof useless. Didn't it say 3-year agreement? That should be up after this season and before a jumbotron goes up.

  20. I'm confused with some of those sentences.
  21. I think everybody is aware. If they were then they shouldn't expect them to go away. What?
  22. The more I watch this team, the closer I think they are, to be honest. Take away the bullpen and some stupid errors and I think the Cubs' record would be pretty good right now. And that was with a tough schedule. Tough? They just played 8 games against 2 of the worst teams in baseball, that's been 28% of the season. And simply "taking away" their worst parts doesn't just make them better. You have to replace those bad parts with better parts. There's also the little issue of this offense still being the worst in the league at taking walks.
  23. Am I underestimating the DeJesus trade market? I see pick 34 as a back of the Cubs top 10 type prospect with the additional benefit of the Cubs getting to pick anyone available at 34, not just picking from a limited set of players in one specific organization. Seems like good value for DeJesus if they're going to trade him. Wait. Wouldn't the prospects in one quality organization be a better collection to choose from than just guys available after pick 33? Not all organizations, but the ones you want to deal with should be. And you would have the advantage of having a guy with more data points to judge.
