  1. I convinced a friend to road trip back from NY for that game.
  2. So why don't you just say we have a strong indication that he sucks, or the likelihood is that he will suck? And don't pretend it has anything to do with shorthand, because you aren't the least bit interested in brevity on any manner and you are all too willing to spend another 500 words to justify your use of that one.
  3. That's a shame. It would be nice if guys like Cates emerged to be bullpen fodder at the every least.
  4. Cubs have to include some pretty good secondary pieces. Other way around. The fact that Castro has cost certainty, at a very affordable/favorable level, and Stanton does not, has to play a big role in their respective values. But Starlin is still probably too expensive for Miami's tastes, plus, after the Guillen fiasco they may not want a Castro on their roster.
  5. Actually I looked at his last year stats .270 avg, .501 SLG and .827 OPS, which were slightly better than Rizzo last year. Did you look at anything other than this season? If you had then you would know his Minor league totals that are much better than Rizzo's.. Yes, he was awesome his 2nd, 3rd and 4th time through AAA, in his mid - 20s.
  6. Saw this on my iphone and first thought it was Edwin Jackson's report. Did not compute.
  7. It's too bad the Cubs can't find a 2B or RF who can get on base. Or at least the RH hitting side of RF who can get on base. Outside of those two positions the Cubs are at least holding their own in comparison to the rest of the league.
  8. Zach Zaidman ‏@ZachZaidman 4m #Bears have hired Ryan Kessenich as a scout. Kessenich spent the last four years as an area scout with the Chiefs. Zach Zaidman ‏@ZachZaidman 7m #Bears have promoted Kevin Turks to director of pro personnel and Dwayne Joseph to associate director of pro personnel. The Bears lost a guy to the Chiefs front office and took back another guy. Two seasons in a row with a fair amount of scouting department turnover.
  9. MLB ‏@MLB 3m ANNOUNCEMENT: Against our better discretion, @RobDelaney will take over the @MLB Twitter account tomorrow from 12-7 PM ET. Retweeted by rob delaney That seems like an interesting couple. He sang the anthem at a Dodgers game, and for those that don't know, he's one of the dirtiest most hilarious people on twitter.
  10. After Trout and Harper are moved to first I'd like to see Detroit move Verlander there to save his arm.
  11. Bruce Miles ‏@BruceMiles2112 3m Terminology on #Cubs moves: Loe DFA; Sweeney selected; Dolis recalled; Sappelt optioned to Iowa.
  12. Video about a matchup of top NJ pitchers, kind of fluffy and meaningless but you can see a little of each of them throwing. Kaminsky was was ranked 40th on a Keith Law list. http://videos.nj.com/star-ledger/2013/05/video_pitching_aces_mike_shawa.html#incart_m-rpt-2
  13. I'm not that big on it. But I do think there is potential for negative ramifications when you spend so much time on the extreme losing end of the spectrum.
  14. You say it yourself right there, he's already a good player even if he does not improve from this point. And the likelihood of him not improving from this point is probably small. I'm not smart like those guys but I'd say I am ecstatic that Castro is a Cub, although not ecstatic with the progression of his career in the near-term past. I am not upset at that progress either, it is fine. He's a young guy who has been forced to be the face of a god awful franchise. I am much more concerned with the progress of the organization under Ricketts/Epstein than I am of Castro's individual progress.
  15. Usually they like to have a former player/coach in the color spot. It's all politics what about a talk show host?
  16. It's only tough if you are trying to do a Santo impression, which the next analyst should not do.
  17. Is that because McCleod has already seen enough?
  18. Well, he has leave to go for 72 hours so he's not AWOL. Although he's made it fairly clear he's not the least bit interested in getting back to the major leagues.
  19. I don't think it helps his development that he's the centerpiece on a crappy team coming off a 100 loss year and on pace to lose 100 more. But he doesn't seem to have taken a step back, more like hit a plateau. It happens.
  20. You posted it for the upskirt
  21. Oh it isn't, but if you were on board with the hire and after they said what the plan was, it's foolish to then jump off board in a year and a month after the plan starts. No? This isn't anywhere close to what they said the plan was.
  22. Sure, but being worried and not seeing justification for promotion are very different.
  23. Not let it out that team doctors cleared him to play. Defend his decision more aggressively. Say its partially a team decision. That sort of "keep it under wraps" stuff is fine for short durations. But this isn't a story about a guy missing a practice. Everybody knows what's going on. There are reporters all over the story and have been for months. There are two scenarios; he is healthy but doesn't want to play or, he had a serious setback. The only way to call off the dogs on the story is by saying he's suffered a setback but I don't think they want to do that.
  24. That's an overly simplistic way of looking at things. If someone thinks being gay is a choice, and thinks being gay is a sin, and believes that God gave humans free will, it's a lot more clear as to why they feel the way Broussard does. Who's being overly simplistic now?
