  1. Miles says it's a hit and an error. don't see how it's a hit. It was a slowly hit ball that was picked up cleanly with plenty of time to throw him out and if the 1B was any good he was out by multiple steps. The error is on the throw, the range was impressive. Thus the hit. Why thus the hit? It was a slowly hit ground ball fielded cleanly and with ease and he would have been out by a mile. Thus, there's no justification for a hit.

  3. Mets announcers are apoplectic on the Soriano scoring decisions (hit instead of blatant error)
  4. Keith Hernandez is talking about the great crowd at Wrigley right now and that it'll keep filling up. I guess in comparison to Citi Field that may be true.
  5. I just don't see how anybody could realistically and reliably rank guys past the 20-25 range, and even that is a stretch. People are just going to be listing names. You may be better asking for a list of 30 from people and in your consensus see where guys at the back end stack up.
  6. The goaltender is sometimes very good.
  7. I read this and was like who the eff is he talking about? Man, that took me awhile too. Yay high school Spanish. Should it not be more like Carl Newtown? Is villa really translated to house?
  8. nancy boys? Leave it to Texas to bring on the misogyny.
  9. Wait, he was recreating an actual play? What a douchebag.
  10. Given the fact that Jim Miller has been among the group of meatbally Cutler criticizers, I find this hire a bit interesting.
  11. There are different levels of flawed though. He didn't even make that list on this site that went to 50, and the guys at the back end aren't going anywhere. He wasn't even getting voted on. He got some money, but that was from the previous management group during a period when they were just throwing money at people to make up for lost opportunities. If a guy can't crack a top 50 list for his organization, as a 21-year old after 2 years as a pro, then he's well off the radar of having a meaningful prospect status on him. It's a stretch to compare ignoring him to ignoring everybody past the top 3-5 actual prospects. To be fair, Theo Epstein drafted Rock Shoulders but couldn't sign him the year before the Cubs got him. Perhaps because they didn't think he was worth the $300k that Hendry/Wilken gave him.
  12. The weirdest part is that it goes to 50.
  13. That's so incredibly frustrating but completely justifiable.
  14. Weird to hear a Cubs fan say they don't hate the Mets but I guess that's the norm now. I can't really think of a reason for a Cubs fan in his 20's to hate the Mets. Are we supposed to hate the Mets because of '69? My hatred of them has cooled considerably due to their incompetence and extremely consistent mediocrity of late. It was at its peak during the prime of my childhood, when they were really good for a long time and won a world series right after the Cubs got my hopes up and then fell apart. It was more of a jealousy thing, but that was the 80s. I never really cared about the 69 storyline, and since I've been out here the only thing the Mets have meant is an easy way to see the Cubs. My hatred is reserved for the Yankees out here due to the absurd level of entitlement and sanctimony surrounding everything that has to do with that franchise.

  16. they also only have 3 sports, and the Penguins only switched as an homage to the more successful franchises in the city. one of those being the pirates? when the hell did the color change happen? What he said. The Pirates were good once.

  18. If you're trying to be funny its Al Burquerque.
  19. http://www.bleachernation.com/2012/12/17/cubs-officially-announce-chang-yong-lim-signing/ South Korean sidearming TJ surgery reliever. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=61681
  20. Ugh, no. The Knicks deserve nothing but misery, now and forever. The rejuvenation of the Yankees is bad enough, I could really use a Knicks/Rangers combo elimination soon. I genuinely can't remember the last time I rooted for a New York team to win at anything. I've wanted the Giants to beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl. And I've rooted for the Devils (obviously not a NY team) because I have easy access to tickets and they are like 15 minutes away from my house.
  21. I do like what Emery is saying with regards to Carimi. Obviously it is his right and so Phil probably can't saying much negative about it. But I think it's the right thing to play the good cop here. The open arms commentary puts the onus on Carimi. His contract is guaranteed so there is zero to gain from cutting him, unless you believe in the bad apple theory. And I really don't think that what he has done to date qualifies as a guy who is going to have a negative affect on others. I think there is little chance his career will continue with the Bears, but they still need the depth and might as well keep him all year.
  22. 1Jonathan GrayPOS: RHPHT: 6-4WT: 239School: Oklahoma Analysis: The industry thinking is that the Astros will try to cut a deal with Gray for less than it would cost to sign Mark Appel, then applying the savings to later picks where they might sign players to bonuses that exceed MLB's recommendations. There is one hot rumor this week that has the Astros on UNC third baseman Colin Moran, one of the top statistical performers in this draft and someone likely to rate at or near the top of Houston's internal analytics. Besides Gray and Moran, Mark Appel and perhaps Kris Bryant all seem to be in consideration, and maybe (but probably not) Clint Frazier. If last year is any guide, the Astros won't make a final decision until a few hours or even minutes before the pick. 2Mark AppelPOS: RHPHT: 6-5WT: 215School: Stanford Analysis: This is Appel or Gray, assuming one of them goes first, with Appel the preference. The Cubs are in the catbird seat in this draft -- they don't have to pay the premium that comes with picking first overall but are guaranteed to get one of the two huge arms in the class. 3Kris BryantPOS: 3B/OFB/T: R/RHT: 6-5WT: 215School: San Diego Analysis: I've only heard them on bats so far, including Bryant, Dominic Smith and Austin Meadows. However, if Gray ends up here, I think the Rockies would take him. 4Kohl StewartPOS: RHPHT: 6-3WT: 190School: St. Pius X (Houston) Analysis: They've been very heavy on Stewart over his last few outings, and he's an ideal fit for a system that needs high-upside pitchers, with Stewart offering the athleticism the Twins have always favored in position players. There is a persistent rumor that the Twins will cut a deal with prep catcher Reese McGuire for less than MLB's recommended bonus, which would allow them to apply those savings later in the draft. But Stewart is clearly the better choice and appears to be higher on their internal board, below only the three players who I project to go in the top three.
