  1. So the PTBNL is related to how well TEX does this season and not on whether they can sign Garza?
  2. God, Kaplan. Just try to be intelligent, just once. I mean, there is a chance that Mike Olt will turn out to be good. Thus, Bryant would move to the OF. But any of these guys could be moved elsewhere, get worse or get injured before a theoretical Bryant/Olt/Vitters spring training battle for 3B even comes close to fruition. So there is no point in pointing out they currently play the same position today and therefore insist Bryant has to move positions.
  3. Yeah, the bar for excellence is probably above what Rizzo did. Not sure what the point is on that one. Really? A guy hitting over 1.000 isn't a better example of "excelling" than a guy with serious defensive problems hitting in the .800's? Rizzo obviously was a better example of a player excelling at AAA than Vitters.

  5. Yeah, as much as I like Olt's potential, I see him as an attempt to get serviceable 3B numbers out of him before flipping him to make room for whomever his ready to take is place, whether it be Bryant, Baez, Vitters, Villanueva... whoever. even if olt turns out to be a successful rehab project, statements like that are just so absurdly dumb. i'm not sure why people can't help but be worried about what position guys might play in the majors when they are years and 3-4 levels of baseball away from the majors. In the case of Bryant though, one could reasonably expect that he won't take "years" to make the major leagues. At least, he shouldn't take years. And a few of those levels better just be brief stints.
  6. That's impossible, because Edwards > Olt He is, but he's also in Single-A, which means he's not contributing to the Cubs anytime soon. How far a guy is from the majors, or how low in the minor league system, doesn't preclude him from being the centerpiece of a trade.
  7. beginning stages of seeing rumors? have you been away from the internet?
  8. My predilection to doubt Vitters emerged long before his time in the majors. But then people need to mention that instead of using his time in the majors as proof of anything. But yeah, his doubters were out weeks before he was drafted, myself included. I wanted Wieters, too. However, Vitters has slowly developed into a hitter that should be able to stick in the majors for a long time, perhaps much of that time as an everyday player. His stint in the majors matters, as does his stint on the DL (at least the latest one). In order to stick in the majors as a starter for a long time you have to hit at a level appropriate for the position in which you play. If you are a 3B who can field well, you don't have to be great. If you aren't any good in the field, however, you really have to hit, and not just be competent.
  9. Len Kasper ‏@LenKasper 26s Not sure who's pitching for the @Cubs tonight, but we will have the game from AZ on @CSNChicago. Updates from @CSNMooney as always.

Matt Garza might not be pitching but before you assume he has been traded you have to remember that Sheriff Arpaio may have just had him arrested.

  12. Shocked to see ufc in his name
  13. I can understand this, I just hate to think he's being stalled at AAA because of a bad cup of coffee in the majors. It was more like a poisoned cup than a bad cup. But why do you keep ignoring the fact that he's only played 20 games this year because he's been out with injury again? He hasn't been raking for 3 months. He's had a full season at AAA, though, I think you're ignoring that. Most 23 year-olds that do that in their first year of AAA are up at theML level to stay. I understand if they're bringing him along because of the injury, but at some point, it's time to swim. The dude has spent his career getting promotions after brief glimpses of looking good only to level out quickly at the next level. Frankly I'd like to see him perform at a high level in AAA for at least a month straight before giving him his next shot. I see very little reason in bringing him up until September, unless a lot of current major leaguers are dealt away and they need to fill a spot.

  15. I think he can play everyday. But as long as we're wazting seasons, why not find out if he can play corner OF. Vitters turns 24 in a month. If he's going to have a career it's going to peak next year through 2018ish. All of those years will take place prior to him becoming a free agent, and most of it will be without arbitration inflating his salary. Him not racking up service time this year was a good thing. And again, the guy just got back from another long DL stint. He's got 81 PA this season and less than a full season at AAA combined. There is no rush to get him in the major leagues yesterday. Let him actually show something for a prolonged period for the first time in his career before a promotion.
  16. Valbuena is young, and Valbuena is an everyday major leaguer. Yeah, the love for Valbuena is [expletive] weird, too. He's had a good half of a season, but he's been garbage up until this point. He's over 600 PA as a Cub and has 3.4 fWAR in that time. It's not a hot month or two buoying him, he's a good player. I'm just unclear on why having a good young player at the major league level has anything to do with holding onto hope that Vitters turns out. Sulley has previoulsy expressed anger that the Cubs are wasting a spot on Valbuena while Vitters is around.
  17. The cop has apologized and resigned his post.
  18. phone woman's hair cracks me up
  19. Wow. More like holy [expletive] [expletive]! More like complete lie. Some 16 year old Dominican kid who was recently screwed over by new MLB rules his predecessors never dealt with isn't taking half the money because the Cubs built a park.
  20. It's still too early to say for sure that he's developed his approach, but the early reports look really good. I've been wanting to make the same comment, I guess you're more courageous than I am. Vitters will get a call up at some point, and if he keeps doing what he has been, I'm excited to see what he can do in his second taste of major league pitching. I have no idea what people have against him. It's not like he's 23 at low-A or 33 at AAA. he still has a shot to be an everyday major leaguer, and he's young. But BA doesn't think he's a prospect so I guess he can't be. He's a corner outfielder in waiting with over 2000 professional PA of sub 800 OPS performance. There's just nothing interesting there.

  22. I thought I was overly critical of it but plenty of others liked it, but I have no idea now.
