  1. Missing two weeks of camp is a setback for anybody, veteran or not. And when you consider it's a guy who is new to the team and the team is dealing with an overhaul in the defensive leadership, from the coordinator and position coaches down to the captain, I would not scoff at him missing time.
  2. That doesn't sound like a guy that plans on letting the franchise QB go anywhere to me. http://mmqb.si.com/2013/07/31/phil-emery-3q/ So basically, Mike Tice was getting fired no matter what, and Lovie and Jay didn't have a great relationship. Yes, but I don't think that means that Lovie and Jay don't get along. Just that Lovie was a defensive guy, and was never going to be a QB whisperer. I don't think it has as much to do with Lovie/Jay's relationship as it speaks to the theory that Jay was never going to progress with Lovie and whatever OC he brought in next. They probably don't have a great relationship because Lovie is all about defense and is very conservative offensively speaking. But that isn't the issue.
  3. It was reported as being worked on all day and officially announced an hour after the deadline. Who reported that it was being worked on with the Cubs? It came out of nowhere. Nomar wasn't even informed until 3:45pm that he was traded. I was at the game the day it happened and it was discussed among fans throughout the day, in a "that would be cool but probably won't happen" sort of way.
  4. No one's gonna jump on this? Also, why would the Cardinals have an interest in Navarro? Tom Musick jumped on it.
  5. Oh, I definitely am. Russell, Barney, Schierholtz, DeJesus, Villanueva all in line to be coming back. Still could be moved, but this was by far the most likely "dump them for prospects" moment. Post 2011 offseason, the Cubs front office is on a remarkable streak of doing exactly what I hoped for. [expletive]

  7. What I'm worried about is that they would seem to have no leverage...where are they gonna go if WGN doesn't ante up? Will the other locals be bidding? Couldn't they just move all of the games to Comcast? Would create logistical nightmares, especially in April when Cubs, Sox, Hawks and Bulls are all playing. I doubt that would be much of a problem. They already have all of those teams
  8. why? There's no point in midnight. At least later in the day than 3pm. I remember sitting in the drive-thru at a Steak-n-Shake when the Nomar deal happened. Now, I'm just stuck in my office, pretending to work, while watching twitter/nsbb. The deadline was exactly the same during the Nomar deal.
  9. why? There's no point in midnight. it's just more fun. don't see that at all.
  10. I think it's mostly borne out of not being good enough to advance with a more traditional delivery. IIRC, they talk a little bit about how Bradford picked up a submarine in Moneyball. Came down to the fact that his 88-90 mph fastball was a lot harder to hit from that angle. When I was a kid it was fun just to copy the guys who did it. I think it is a bit like becoming a knuckleballer. If you can't be an effective 95mph thrower, mix it up by changing the batters eye level. We faced a kid in high school that threw submarine style, he picked it up because Quisenberry was his favorite pitcher. I tried to do it a couple times a game but my dad didn't like it.
  11. Harold Reynolds is impossible to listen to without getting angry.

  13. And he's "week to week". That's not good. better than weak to weak
  14. Notre Dame fan? Very much not. The discussion started with commentary about how the DBacks tried to trade for Samardzija using Kennedy as the centerpiece and the Cubs declined. You then stated you thought Kennedy was better than Samardzija and did not appear willing to back off that statement.
  15. I fully agree. I'm not trying to poop on everyone's parade but I'm not seeing the difference between the admittedly regressing Kennedy and the potential and upwardly trending Samardzija as being worth two top pitching prospects. If the rumors are true, I guess we will find out by the end of the day. I honestly hope I'm wrong. But you think Kennedy is better. I didn't realize that his 2013 was so different than his 2012/2011 seasons. I'll fully admit that I hope I'm wrong but I highly doubt that DBacks trade Kennedy and a top pitching prospect for Samardzija. Yes, Kennedy is not pitching well in 2013. Yes Samardzia is having a better year. Does that satisfy you goony? No. You are trying to avoid saying Kennedy is not better than Samardzija.

  17. And that is why I ask the question because I don't know.....is Kennedy hurt or something? But the question remains why do you think he is, currently, better than Samardzija?
  18. How do you see Kennedy as better than Samardzija!?!?!? Ian Kennedy was a 2.3WAR player in 2012, 4.8WAR in 2011. 8K/9, 2BB/9 in 2012. 1.3WHIP in 2012, 1.03WHIP in 2011. 207IP in 2012 Shark was a 1.8WAR in 2012, 1.1 in 2011. 9K/9m 3B/9. 174IP in 2012 with a 1.295WHIP. 1.219WHIP in 2011 And in 2013?
