  1. And that the budget is more restricted than they expected. And the changes in the new CBA were more restrictive than anticipated. And that the wind blows in more often than they thought.
  2. The Pirates handed the keys over to Neal Huntington in 2007 though. So this is only the 6th year of his version of their rebuild. That means we need to give Theo and Jed until 2017 before we expect a Pirates like season.
  3. Take solace in the standings for now. http://espn.go.com/mlb/standings/_/type/wild-card
  4. They've pushed their elite batters sort of quickly. But with these arms, even though they were college guys, none of them are elite and if they are pitching in Boise right now, there's no point in skipping levels without complete domination. They went with the quantity strategy, and with that you need patience for one or two to emerge.
  5. Andy MacPhail, 1996 All that proves is he didn't stay true to what he wanted to do. Helped out by the fact he hired a bunch of morons to help him carry out his plan. How so? He stayed completely true to what he wanted to do. They focused on pitching on the minor leagues and were happy to trade prospects eventually to go after big leaguers, and acquired veteran bats from outside the system, plus consistently rose the payroll. He ended up hiring boobs who hired other boobs and the focus on minor league pitchers idea was stupid as hell, but I don't see how he didn't stay true to his word.
  6. jozy again
  7. Typical provincial Illinoisans. Get out more.
  8. Kind of ridiculous to pretend to be surprised by people not knowing who McDonald is. He's a nobody.
  9. It's a pretty fair mix of hipsters, techies, crunchy folks and homeless. Things I've never heard of since this page: Sounders and crunchy folks. you've never heard of crunchy people? Like granola/Phish fans?
  10. It looked to me to be insanely offsides, but is that negated when the US players touched the ball?
  11. that was sloppy
  12. ah who cares. It's harmless enough
  13. Net operating profit, which does not include debt repayment. It appears that the Tribune/Ricketts alliance screwed us with a rather restrictive sales agreement that is cutting in to our ability to spend. No, it appears the Cubs are choosing not to spend as much money for a few years because they don't think they will take too big of a revenue hit while they reposition the entire organization, from facilities to talent assets.
  14. The Cubs could spend more, they choose not to. That isn't that issue. I don't believe that to be true or that the evidence points in that direction. It all points directly in that direction.
  15. The Cubs could spend more, they choose not to. That isn't that issue.
  16. None of which trumps them winning the World Series. Not quite yet, but soon. 2005 was a long time ago. It didn't take long for the Bears Super Bowl luster to wear off on the enjoyment of that team, and the White Sox are basically in the Wanny years now. They've only been under .500 in four of eight seasons since, but they are right in the crapper now.
  17. Bruce Miles ‏@BruceMiles2112 1m #Cubs to bring Arrieta up Friday to start and remain in rotation. Villanueva to pen.
  18. strikes me as a bit odd to put him in the pen now, unless they have little expectation of him being a starter next year. He's already 27, will be 28 in the spring. He's at 110 innings this year after hitting 170 last year.
  19. I think there were twitter rumors a few years ago that he died. Maybe it's just a training camp tradition.
  20. twitter claims that william perry died.
  21. lol. Hope he remembered to consult his diary.
  22. That's the 22 year old OF from BYU. He was hitting .290/.313/.468 at Boise.
  23. I don't think Green Bay counts. New Orleans didn't give a crap about the Saints, or sports in general until 5 years ago, and that was with no competition for local hearts. Cleveland is most likely correct, and I don't know anything about Baltimore.
  24. Given his age and timeline he has given for his life, you have to imagine he was in Chicago sometime in the late 90's early 00's. There was a lot of god awful football being played in Chicago at the time, while the Cubs experienced their 2nd modern era renaissance.
