  1. You think all Asian players are Japanese? This guy is a Choo.

  3. Not since Sandberg at least.
  4. He's played twice in the last month.
  5. Poor kid is still going to have to earn his first real big money pitching in Denver. They should trade him next year.
  6. Well they should have made a trade before the non-waiver deadline then, or you know, ponied up and traded for Justin Upton. The fans never had that choice.

  9. Wouldn't it make sense to front load the deal given the projected payroll for the next couple of years is relatively low? Why would that make sense? They don't have much space the next couple years, but do have theoretical space in 3-5 years.
  10. Keith Law already flipped a switch in favor of the Cubs when Theo came on board. Guys like him already know Theo and Jed's success and record. The Cubs universally have a top 5 system. Yes, the cubs have a universally regarded top 5 system, crapping the bed at the big league level and having high draft picks will lead to that. I understand that Jed and Theo are respected. However, their is a large mass out their that believes the Cubs, no matter who is running them, will routinely find a way to screw things up. I think the pundits, whether consciously or not, reflect that bias on some level. While parts of the general public may hold that opinion I doubt any of these guys analyzing prospects and systems as a whole are biased by that nonsense. The fact is there is a perfectly reasonable justification for not getting as worked up about Baez as most of us are.
  11. :-k Probably in response to davell who mentioned signing DeJesus this winter.
  12. Why lol? He didn't have an amazing pro career, but he still had a career, and that is a name any high school would be proud of producing.
  13. If it's a player, it needs to be Rice. He is so much better than the next best WR. No other player is that much better than the 2nd best player at their position. And yet, he's just a receiver.
  14. No, he did not launch himself and yes, this is fairly typical of what guys got away with for a long time. But it's also well within the bounds of what the NFL has cracked down on in recent years. And I think it's still pretty easy for a 250lb LB to make a huge hit on a WR over the middle without leading with the crown of the helmet like Bostic did. Will they ever do it? Yes, it is going to happen and it will usually not be "dirty". But they can change the approach to contact and still make an impact. Part of the problem is, going by what the highlight reals have shown for years, guys used to think this was proper form tackling. It is not. The head should not be in position and high school/college coaches should teach guys to not have their head in that position.
  15. http://espn.go.com/chicago/nfl/story/_/id/9587983/jon-bostic-chicago-bears-fined-21000-hit-mike-willie-san-diego-chargers 5% of his salary, basically for tackling a guy in the process of catching a ball. I'm not really sure how you can play MLB and not do what Bostic did there. Wrapped up, put his helmet on the ball. Yes, his helmet got into the WR's head, but that can't be avoided on every tackle. Every WR running a slant or screen is defenseless? Makes you wonder how long football will be around. For comparison's sake, Bostic's was much more of a lead with the helmet type tackle than the Briggs blowup (last year?) hit. Lance actually had a proper form tackle, leading with the shoulder, but taking looks at the replay, it seems clear that Bostic is facing straight down, and the top of his helmet is what hits first.
  16. That's what I thought. If you're going to put a fb player's head on a mountain it has to be a QB and not a very good RB that played for like 6 years. Besides, QBs are pretty. I was thinking one of Unitas, Bradshaw, Marino, Montana, Elway, Favre (shudder) or even Manning (Peyton, not Eli). Those would be the only QBs that could be considered the best in the game for more than a couple years. It's probably b/c he won seemingly every SB in my youth, but I keep going back to Montana, even though I hated him growing up. It would have to be Montana. He defined the QB position, and winning Super Bowls, for the modern era. Marino doesn't stand a chance, Favre would go below Brady probably. You can't have Manning because his forehead would cause a rock slide that would destroy the entire mountain and kill all the tourists.
  17. A lack of a flag is fairly meaningless in the "will he get fined" discussion. The play doesn't seem to warrant a fine, but there clearly is precedence for doing this.
  18. While that sort of comfortable ride into the sunset is what could/should happen, it almost never does with these guys. They are largely uneducated young guys who want to live the high life. And even their investments often go to poop.
  19. Didn't he like randomly pick some stocks in the middle of a bull market and the resulting gains convinced him (and others) that he was some sort of capitalist guru? Others include Jim Cramer. My recollection was that he subscribed to some analyst's commentary, and just used his picks as his own. http://www.realclearmarkets.com/articles/2009/07/15/dykstra_another_too-good-to-be-true_story_97309.html
  20. We can't just throw it to Brandon and give the ball to Matt, sometimes we'll have to punt.
  21. If I didn't already like Notre Dame, I would because of weirdos like you If its weird to dislike a school and fan base with their heads that far up their own asses I don't want to be straight. QOTD
  22. It appears as if its just a claim and we let him go for the savings in money. The Nats claiming him was odd, my guess is they are playing our money shortage against us and have him back on waivers to try and legit trade him in the hopes someone sees value at 6.5 next year. To us, the monetary savings must have meant more than the shot at getting a C+ type prospect over the offseason. Then wouldn't that just be called a waiver pickup, as opposed to a trade for a PTBNL?
  23. Well, it was the Big 4 sports, not top American athletic icons.
