It'd make more sense than your response to this, I guess you're having a rough day. I'll explain Plaid suggested we bribe Tunney and Treymon commented that we don't have the money until we do revenue generating things first. I thought it was pretty funny. Your post suggests you thought it was pretty awesome that the Cubs don't have money.

There's plenty of downside risk with this team. I've become more comfortable with them the more I've seen and heard, but this is still a team that could have a death spiral season. If I had to bet on the outcome, I'd take the over as well, but I'm staying away on that stuff this year.

With less contact but more power and I think that's it. I do not think Rizzo has a better eye than Grace. Grace had a very good eye. He played in an era when taking walks was not publicly acknowledged as a very good thing. What he didn't have was power, which can be the difference between taking your fair share of walks and and actually having pitchers pitch around you.

doubtful. There aren't many teams desperate to press the high end of the cap. If he plays to a level that you will want to trade him, you won't be able to trade him, except in a take back some other junk situation.

A) That doesn't negate an opportunity for having a future with the team. B) That doesn't mean any of those others guys would have a future with the team. And as an aside, you aren't going to field a team with 25 guys who have a future with that team. Nor should you necessarily try to do that. -
Are you paying attention to anything people are saying in their complaints about MNF? It's fairly torturous to watch. It is far less enjoyable than watching football on Sunday. I would rather have more 4pm Sunday games than Monday night. In addition to MNF just sucking balls for a variety of already stated reasons, I enjoy my 8-hour window of drunken football viewing 17 Sundays a year, and don't have another 4 to give on Monday. Monday night is for catching up on whatever Sunday night television awesomeness I was too drunk to watch with the wife Sunday night.

At that point, I would rather let Arrieta/Hendricks/Grimm/Rusin/Cabrera/Villanueva battle it out. How many more offseasons are were going to go after a patchwork rotation? Letting those guys battle it out isn't going with a patchwork rotation? They all at least have a future in the organization and could probably perform similarly for a fraction of the cost. If Hughes were to sign cheaply, then I wouldn't be opposed. But I'd imagine we won't be the only team looking at him. To answer the original question, there will always be space for patchwork additions to the rotation. You need 5 guys just to field a team, 7 for much of the season and 8 or 9 in total over the course of a season, barring the rare 5 man 200 inning group. But those don't last even when they do happen. Also, I'm not sure why "all those guys at least have a future in the organization" but a signed Hughes would not. Villanueva is 2 years older. Arrieta is the same age. Any of those guys could be out of baseball in 2 years.

Agreed. Maybe, maybe I could get excited for MNF if it was still the best matchup of the week, but why wait an extra day, and watch a late game between the Cardinals and Raiders or something. Nobody is forcing you to watch it and it's not like there's time for an additional nationally televised game on Sunday. Why wouldn't you want more games available to watch? What does "forcing you to watch" have to do with anything? If I want to watch the Bears and they are on MNF, I am forced to watch, otherwise I don't watch it at all, because it sucks.

It's not just years, I just don't think he's anything special. I don't really care if he would have gotten more from somebody else, that is a terrible way to justify moves. Sports management types are notoriously foolish with money. Goalies come and go and aside from a very select few, do not impact the team all that much. The Blackhawks don't just have to keep Toews/Kane intact, they will need to bring in more talent from outside the organization, not to mention pay the next wave of talent when those raises are due.

Could be telling the truth, or could be bitter that a large part of the Bears fanbase seemingly moved on from 54 after seeing Bostic. I think that's a pretty honest assessment of the situation.

I'm concerned about the commitments being made to guys who aren't the difference makers on this team. Taken by itself this signing isn't disappointing, but giving Crawford and Hjalmarsson a combined $10+m per year is a little perplexing to me.

Really, is that true? Those two are the gift that keeps on giving for Toronto. Now they get to take postseason innings away from young pitchers. AA got thisclose to becoming an upper echelon GM, then shot his wad a year too early. Going to be tough for him now. no, i was just making a joke because i thought it was bush league that they sent down a 28 year old pitcher with a sub-2.00 ERA at AA so that he could pitch a playoff game for a single A club. This should not be ignored.
