And I don't see why he'd be expected to just take over a role he was given at the beginning of camp, when he's on a 1-year deal, has only played like 5 games in 2 years, hasn't practiced in 4 weeks, and is competing with a high draft pick who can potentially stay in that role for the next 10 years. Same reason why McClellin is listed as co-starter with Wootton at DE. How is that the same reason? McClellin isn't a rookie, and he wasn't a mid-2nd round pick. 50 overall is hardly a time where you assume the guy will start from day one, especially at a position like MLB. I think it's quite likely that the coaching staff is not comfortable starting the rookie from the first game and are anxious to find an opportunity to insert a veteran into that slot, even if there is little expectation that Williams starts 16 games there.
