  1. Okay, so why are you harping on the Trestman's offense? Because it hasn't been a huge upgrade which I thought was the point in bringing in an offensive minded head coach. We won 10 games last year with the defense being the driving force. Now we throw all the focus on offense but we aren't going to improve on last season, it appears. I realize there is a long way to go but do you think we're going to win 10+ games with this team? So you expect a "huge" improvement on 10 wins in one season or else it is a failure? It's been 5 games. If you had reasonable expectations coming in, I do not think you could have expected the offense to do anything more than it has done through 5 games. The decision to hire an offensive minded head coach was not based solely no the desire to have the 2013 team win more games than the 2012 team. The decision was to maximize their ability to succeed on a regular basis.
  2. In what form would that added revenue come? Ticket sales, merchandise, added exposure all around, I guess. I really don't know, thus the reason for the question. I believe MLB merchandise sales are shares throughout the league. Ticket sales matter, but there are a finite number of seats at Wrigley Field. Their revenue from that is going to depend on how good the team is. A good Cubs team = sellouts = maximized revenue from ticket sales. Any incremental gains from bringing in interest from overseas won't cover the cost of his posting fee. You pay the posting fee because it is one of only a few ways to immediately add talent to the roster without giving up talent of your own.

  4. They just fired Peter Laviolette.
  5. I really do not think Mike Tice would have been running a better offense even if he had the exact same personnel at his disposal.
  6. I would not even consider assuming that. There's a reason the people who ran that offense are not running NFL offenses today. Maybe they should go coach in the CFL. What the hell are you on about? Trestman may wind up with shortcomings as a head coach when all is said and done. But considering the fact that this is a new system, the first five games should not be considered a failure from an offensive standpoint. It isn't running smoothly or explosive enough, but if you had reasonable expectations for the first five games, this has to have met your standards. The probably yesterday was nobody could catch or hold onto balls. It wasn't the system.
  7. I had a couple Pirates fans over yesterday for this game. It was enjoyable to watch.

  9. Dusty to the Mets in 2015 please.
  10. I would say they do more dumb things than the good teams do. Although that's quite hard to measure. There's just a whole heck of a lot separating the Bears from the teams at the top. Definitely. The Bears aren't a finished product. They're good enough to possibly make the playoffs, and maybe win a game or two with a bit of luck and the right matchups. They're a massive long shot to do more than that unless there's some crazy improvement over the course of the season. I think the defensive line injuries and ineffectiveness is going to be it's achilles heel for the rest of the season. They have to hope that the offense is going to keep getting better the more it plays under this system (it would help if Forte and the receivers learned to catch balls), because this defense stinks and is probably only going to get worse. They pretty much have to win the division so they can host a first round playoff game and have a chance at winning. Although maybe being the best WC team will be give them a shot at the crappy eastern division winner on the road.
  11. Favored by 8? I think the Bears are only 1-4 against the spread so far this season. And as bad as the Giants are, I think it will be tough for them to cover this one. It would really stink to screw this game up though. Need a win so bad.
  12. Hello? Sex offender hotline? I have something to report. Its called recruiting. I hope you meant scouting.

  14. Yep. He's done a good job as a regular season manager and his players generally back him up. If you're a team like the Mariners or Rockies or Blue Jays, you could do a lot worse. That being said, I hope he proves to be a fraud who just had stacked teams and did nothing with them so I can continue my hatred of him in a more rational way. Huh? Huh?
  15. Really? Someone who wants to be a manager but isn't a manager would have been interested in a managing job with a major-market team? For the record. Print it.
  16. Are the Cubs still on the hook for his 2014 salary? I assume so yes
  17. It boggles my mind why people "can't stand" the way they are doing it.
  18. Yeah, I didn't mean to argue that. But, I can't help but think about how pissed I would be as a player if my team won 100 games and was forced to play an 80 win team in a one game takes all format. I just do not like it at all. I don't see why it matters if players get pissed. The system is setup to making winning your division matter. Previously, it did not matter.
  19. Yeah, it's not 'getting boned' when Dusty predictably refused to adjust his lineup for the fact that he was facing a dude who eats lefthanded batters for lunch. Because baseball is meant to be a "best team over a long season or series, not whoever happens to have a great matchup in 1 game" type of sport. Yeah, Dusty is an idiot, but there shouldn't be anything besides a tiebreaker that is 1 game. I love rewarding the division winner, but with so much randomness in baseball, 1 game is just dumb. wrong Because it is your opinion? Because there is nothing to support the theory that a 1 game play in for WC teams is dumb.
  20. I'm not so sure about that. He's mostly had support from the mayor throughout the process. But Emanuel wasn't elected until two years after the entire bidding process went down. The bidding process also took place during a horrible financial crisis. He's lucky the economy rebounded enough to allow the team to stay afloat financially while they put 90+ loss teams out there. I don't think you can just chalk this process up to worst case scenario. The headwinds were obvious all along. They had the rooftop contract and plenty of history showing how difficult it has been for the Cubs to do what they want with the stadium.
  21. More of just a stupid jerks thing than just jocks.
  22. I'll see smaller comments-"until Ricketts quits acting like a mid market owner" but that's the extent. Mostly from Mooney. Wittenmyer has been all over the debt issues though and while not voicing his own opinion, does have quotes basically calling Ricketts a moron. Again, he's not a moron for being willing to accept terms on a deal that others didn't in order to close the deal for himself and substantially improve his chances at owning the team, for which he is almost unquestionably better off. It [expletive] SUCKS for us, but the people calling him stupid for it are [expletive] ridiculous. You can call him stupid for all the assumptions he made when taking on this [expletive] deal. Yeah, if there was anything resembling an assumption that the government of the city of Chicago would be financially helpful toward the Cubs, that is stupid. Very very stupid.
