  1. Now? You wanted something else before?
  2. Why do you think it is a matter of fans who want to sit on their hands? I was told to sit down by a group of pessimistic fans when I stood to cheer a late Fukudome HR. And the stadium barely made a peep. If you're going to cry every time something bad happens, you're better off not attending. Again, you are off base if you think this is an "every time something bad happens" thing. This was a fairly unique circumstance here.

  4. It kind of is right now. Next year, if they were in the same situation as Pittsburgh is right now, I'm sure it would be quite lively. It was throughout the 08 playoffs. Expectations were higher, but still, left a bad taste in my mouth. "Throughout the 08 playoffs" was 2 days. They led for 2 innings then fell apart. This came on the heals, of course, of the 1 game they played in Wrigley Field during the 2007 playoffs, which was played with the team down 2 - 0 in the series already and a 2-0 deficit in the first inning. Let's stop pretending Wrigley Field can't get raucous. With 5 increasingly depressing seasons since the last time they were in the playoffs, when they are fortunate enough to make it back, Wrigley Field will be quite lively.

  6. I have no idea and it sounds stupid but maybe because he'd rather have his best pitcher pitching at home, in a pitcher's park at night (where pitchers tend to fare better at Dodger Stadium)? I know my explanation doesn't make sense, I was just trying to think of some way that it would even begin to be justified. If the Pirates wrap up the other NLDS today, and the Dodgers win tonight, Kershaw wouldn't be available on regular rest until probably game 3, meaning he'd start game 3 and 7 instead of 1, 4 and 7. Yeah doesn't make sense. The NLCS starts on Friday no matter what happens today, correct? That is how it is listed on the site and that is how it has been done in recent years. They have specific days they want games on the air. If he pitches today, that leaves him available on short rest for Game 1, or regular rest for Game 2, Saturday. If they lose tonight and he does not pitch, then he absolutely will pitch in game 5, which would be on an extra day's rest. And then he would not be available until game 3 of NLCS.
  7. Probably so he can theoretically pitch prior to game 3 in the NLCS. Obviously he would pitch game 5 if necessary, then he'd be out for game 1 and 2.
  8. Jacksonville Jaguars ‏@jaguars 3h Stay classy, Denver. RT @DenverBroncos: The #Broncos' 51 points in yesterday's win are as many points as the Jaguars have scored all season.
  9. Am I missing something or are you basing this off of the news that the Cubs are talking to other people?
  10. All this has to take into account the defense is starting from a very high level, while the offense is starting from a very low level. The defense doesn't suck, but it has fallen far from where it once was. Briggs isn't awful, but he isn't the star he once was. Peppers is nearly as useless as McClellin. But I wasn't that impressed with what Brees did yesterday. That lazy duck he threw down the left sideline that hung up forever should never have been completed. He had forever to make his passes and still had to rely on plenty of checkdowns. I just didn't see a lot of "wow what a throw by Brees" moments yesterday. It was just a matter of dropping back and having his choice of receiver, eventually.
  11. Anywaysssssssssssss, I really want to see a blowout this Thursday. Kill them early, let me go to bed.
  12. Immediately? That's your fault then. 5 games is immediately? Yes. Anybody looking at the situation had to know it would take a while for the offense to hit its stride. You can't expect a new system to be introduced, along with significant changes in personnel, and the team to be running it to full effect the first five weeks of the season. It is your fault for not having reasonable expectations if you expected the offense to be significantly better than it has been through 5 weeks.
  13. Okay, so why are you harping on the Trestman's offense? Because it hasn't been a huge upgrade which I thought was the point in bringing in an offensive minded head coach. We won 10 games last year with the defense being the driving force. Now we throw all the focus on offense but we aren't going to improve on last season, it appears. I realize there is a long way to go but do you think we're going to win 10+ games with this team? So you expect a "huge" improvement on 10 wins in one season or else it is a failure? It's been 5 games. If you had reasonable expectations coming in, I do not think you could have expected the offense to do anything more than it has done through 5 games. The decision to hire an offensive minded head coach was not based solely no the desire to have the 2013 team win more games than the 2012 team. The decision was to maximize their ability to succeed on a regular basis.
  14. In what form would that added revenue come? Ticket sales, merchandise, added exposure all around, I guess. I really don't know, thus the reason for the question. I believe MLB merchandise sales are shares throughout the league. Ticket sales matter, but there are a finite number of seats at Wrigley Field. Their revenue from that is going to depend on how good the team is. A good Cubs team = sellouts = maximized revenue from ticket sales. Any incremental gains from bringing in interest from overseas won't cover the cost of his posting fee. You pay the posting fee because it is one of only a few ways to immediately add talent to the roster without giving up talent of your own.

  16. They just fired Peter Laviolette.
  17. I really do not think Mike Tice would have been running a better offense even if he had the exact same personnel at his disposal.
  18. I would not even consider assuming that. There's a reason the people who ran that offense are not running NFL offenses today. Maybe they should go coach in the CFL. What the hell are you on about? Trestman may wind up with shortcomings as a head coach when all is said and done. But considering the fact that this is a new system, the first five games should not be considered a failure from an offensive standpoint. It isn't running smoothly or explosive enough, but if you had reasonable expectations for the first five games, this has to have met your standards. The probably yesterday was nobody could catch or hold onto balls. It wasn't the system.
  19. I had a couple Pirates fans over yesterday for this game. It was enjoyable to watch.

  21. Dusty to the Mets in 2015 please.
  22. I would say they do more dumb things than the good teams do. Although that's quite hard to measure. There's just a whole heck of a lot separating the Bears from the teams at the top. Definitely. The Bears aren't a finished product. They're good enough to possibly make the playoffs, and maybe win a game or two with a bit of luck and the right matchups. They're a massive long shot to do more than that unless there's some crazy improvement over the course of the season. I think the defensive line injuries and ineffectiveness is going to be it's achilles heel for the rest of the season. They have to hope that the offense is going to keep getting better the more it plays under this system (it would help if Forte and the receivers learned to catch balls), because this defense stinks and is probably only going to get worse. They pretty much have to win the division so they can host a first round playoff game and have a chance at winning. Although maybe being the best WC team will be give them a shot at the crappy eastern division winner on the road.
  23. Favored by 8? I think the Bears are only 1-4 against the spread so far this season. And as bad as the Giants are, I think it will be tough for them to cover this one. It would really stink to screw this game up though. Need a win so bad.
