  1. he's got the worst [expletive] attorneys
  2. You're a Cubs lifer just like everyone else on this board. You aren't going anywhere. Also, this likely won't happen. He could be like Kyle and at least try.
  3. Oh my god, are you kidding with this nonsense?
  4. Whoever is the manager if/when this team wins is going to become a legend. He's not going to be the one to determine if they do win.
  5. The type of college hitter he was combined with his start to his professional career suggests he could very easily see major league action prior to 2015.
  6. What original deal? I have always heard it described as a partnership with comcast and the four teams splitting ownership five ways.
  7. No, we need to start signing all the really boring players because we will get them cheaper. That is a good point.
  8. So the question then follows, is the new market inefficiency that charisma is currently being underpaid, and the Cubs will be going after a lot of outgoing players?
  9. If you are paying top dollar for a player, you want more charisma than baseball playing ability. That's just a fact.
  10. He got that contract because he played on the Yankees during their championship run. Not because of charisma. MLB teams don't make money off charisma, they make money off television ratings and attendance, and that is correlated to winning. A superstar helps you win, which pays for itself. A charismatic personality does very little for the bottom line.
  11. This isn't serious is it? Doesn't seem too far off to me if Trout continues his pace (which would make him one of the greatest players of all-time at the age of 26). It seems extremely far off to me. 15 years for a guy who depends on speed? Don't think so. "Depends on speed"? .400 OBP and 30 HR. Doesn't really depend on speed.
  12. this is something i've wondered about as well. this doesn't make sense at all. i mean, obviously this would have happened by now if it was possible, but why the hell can't we just give csn and wgn some huge pile of cash tomorrow in exchange for letting us go get 100 million a season or whatever from what the new deal would be? even if ricketts really is rubbing nickels together to heat up his ramen while living in the visitors' clubhouse, this seems like the easiest investment ever for some other rando to wander into. give tom the buyout upfront, get all the money back plus whatever you want in a month when the cubs sign a new tv deal. The biggest problem is that the organization most likely to parter with the team to form a Cubs only network is Comcast, which is already their partner in CSN Chicago. Plus, Reinsdorf is a partner in that deal (accounting for 2/5 entities in the Cubs/Sox/Hawks/Bulls/Comcast partnership). There just isn't enough motivation for the parties to agree to a deal, without a huge payoff, and Ricketts can't afford a huge payoff. FWIW, Ricketts also owns 25% of CSN Chicago. Not exactly. Ricketts owns 1/5th, 20%. Reinsdorf owns 2/5th, 40%. There are 5 entities, the 4 teams plus Comcast. Reinsdorf owns 2 of the 5 entities. The point is that Ricketts' counterparties do not have motivation to help him make a bigger deal with another company. Also, I already noted Ricketts was part of that

  14. What sort of extremist activity are these crowds partaking in?
  15. Yeah, big fans of both. Those are my 2 favorite QBs after the 2nd round. People are really talking up Garropolo as maybe a late 1st/early 2nd round pick (all 32 teams have gone to see EIU play already this year), but that's not going to happen unless most of the big names stay in school. I've heard Matthews as early as 4th round, but he looks to be a 5th or 6th rounder. Ewww, a Cornell QB? No thanks.
  16. In fairness, he may not have used the word "home", that bit I was paraphrasing. He seemed to cover that portion of news just fine, but then he spiraled into making this the latest disaster for him in a long line, which was where he lost me. It's been a pretty crappy year in the Jorge Soler developmental process. Not sure there's anyway around that one.
  17. OH [expletive] YES! I did not realize you were on our team too. Team "cheapassnotipper" that is, proud?
  18. Chain smoking will do that If anything I think he's maintained his looks from the 80s very well for a chain smoker with a high stress job.
  19. My opinion of him as a hitter is that he could be a really good one but he does actually have to start hitting for a lot more power if he is going to be considered a big power bat. And he's going to have to be a big power bat if he has any chance to have a major league career. The 450 SLG this year just wasn't that impressive from a guy who needs to make it as a DH. Give his numbers to a competent fielding 3B and I'm a lot more excited. But he has no value as a player except for what he can do as a hitter, so he has to be better than typical prospects with the bat to compete with them in rankings.
  20. He's a guy worth keeping an eye on but he still needs to break out in a big way offensively to really change people's opinion's on his future.
  21. Wait, more serious than baseball fans who argue over how true of a fan they are, or football fans who try to out intensify each other?
