  1. Yeah, if you aren't making high school baseball teams, you aren't any good at baseball.
  2. No. They opened 06 up on the road at Green Bay. They shut them out and a bunch of people won free furniture. Yeah, they opened in GB and destroyed them, but people weren't that impressed because GB was terrible the season before. I was at game 2, the home opener versus Detroit, which was just a complete laugher of a game.
  3. Rey Malauga had a late hit on Jordan Mills following the 3rd down run. It was more of a late takedown, or tug.
  4. One of those things was Simms discussing how they would have two plays called, and let the defensive alignment determine which one you run. Earlier the Bears left the middle wide open and allowed Dalton to sneak through for a first down. On this play Cincy was bunched in the middle and the announcer stated you run outside as they were going up to the line. Also, not sure why you'd want to settle for a FG in that situation. Going from down 4 to down 1 at that point isn't helpful. Cincy would have the ball and the lead, and you have to think a very good chance to at least score a FG and put the Bears in a situation where they need a 2-minute drive for a TD.
  5. Because people are stupid.
  6. Well, they have Khabibulin with NHL experience and they have Raanta in the pipeline. I Seriously, how does anybody come up with the nobody with experience and nobody in the pipeline theory?
  7. The Bears pass rush showed up late, but it was Paea and McClellin. Peppers has me concerned. I don't know how much it actually showed up late. It didn't seem to me that those late pressures were getting to the QB quickly, but rather having the time to get to him. There were plays that McClellin was pushed around.
  8. At times he got abused. That horrible pass interference on the ridiculous lob ball that was up for grabs for anybody who decided to look was ugly. The one pick was fantastic work by him though. Tillman has to hold some sort of club record for leaving the game with an injury but returning during that game. That PI though was more of the result of a quick snap by Dalton, and the entire defense being unprepared. They pointed out during the game that Green was supposed to be double covered on that play, but Dalton quick snapped. Tillman saved a TD with the PI...at least, for the moment. They obviously scored immediately afterwards. It looked bad, but I don't think that's all on Tillman. Well not, it's not all on him, it never is really. Covering WR is one of the toughest thing to do in this game. And he was covering a fantastic WR.
  9. Weird feeling after that game. The offense was ineffective for long stretches, but showed some promise. The dropsies were out again, and the defensive line didn't show up. Felt like there were a ton of missed tackles. Still think this team has a lot of volatility for what it may become this season. Oh, and listening to Francesa's NFL Sunday whatever it's called radio show I hard some ridiculous statements. Basically, Francesa thinks the Bears are an easy under pick for the 8 win bet. But he doesn't think they'll be just a 5 win team, just that they are a lock for 6 or 7 wins. He thinks Trestman is a poor fit in Chicago because the Bears should never have an offensive minded head coach and should always be defensive oriented, and tough. His reasons are the history of the Bears being good on defense, the mentality of the city, and weather. Apparently you can't throw and score lots of points in stadiums where the weather can be inclement. He also picked the Packers to run away with the division.

  11. I have a pseudo-bachelor weekend coming up and will be ecstatic if I'm still asleep at 8:30 tomorrow morning.
  12. Well, yeah, my wife's cousin lets her kids stay up past midnight and they'll sleep in until as late as noon somedays. There aren't many schools that adjust to kids with that sleep schedule though, and it's pretty important to have little ones on a decent schedule, so 99% of the people I know are in the same situation.
  13. len speculated he had tried to call timeout. I wasn't paying attention if they showed the replay or not.
  14. You're going to hate when you become an adult.
  15. :yahoo: Can you make us a 5 team trade involving the rooftop owners, Seattle Slew, the where's the beef lady, a pack of 1988 Score Baseball cards, and a bottle of Yoohoo? It'd make more sense than your response to this, I guess you're having a rough day. I'll explain Plaid suggested we bribe Tunney and Treymon commented that we don't have the money until we do revenue generating things first. I thought it was pretty funny. Your post suggests you thought it was pretty awesome that the Cubs don't have money.
  16. There's plenty of downside risk with this team. I've become more comfortable with them the more I've seen and heard, but this is still a team that could have a death spiral season. If I had to bet on the outcome, I'd take the over as well, but I'm staying away on that stuff this year.
  17. With less contact but more power and I think that's it. I do not think Rizzo has a better eye than Grace. Grace had a very good eye. He played in an era when taking walks was not publicly acknowledged as a very good thing. What he didn't have was power, which can be the difference between taking your fair share of walks and and actually having pitchers pitch around you.
  18. Once you lead in OBP and SLG, the OPS is a given.
  19. doubtful. There aren't many teams desperate to press the high end of the cap. If he plays to a level that you will want to trade him, you won't be able to trade him, except in a take back some other junk situation.
  20. yes, you for one
  21. A) That doesn't negate an opportunity for having a future with the team. B) That doesn't mean any of those others guys would have a future with the team. And as an aside, you aren't going to field a team with 25 guys who have a future with that team. Nor should you necessarily try to do that.
  22. Are you paying attention to anything people are saying in their complaints about MNF? It's fairly torturous to watch. It is far less enjoyable than watching football on Sunday. I would rather have more 4pm Sunday games than Monday night. In addition to MNF just sucking balls for a variety of already stated reasons, I enjoy my 8-hour window of drunken football viewing 17 Sundays a year, and don't have another 4 to give on Monday. Monday night is for catching up on whatever Sunday night television awesomeness I was too drunk to watch with the wife Sunday night.
  23. At that point, I would rather let Arrieta/Hendricks/Grimm/Rusin/Cabrera/Villanueva battle it out. How many more offseasons are were going to go after a patchwork rotation? Letting those guys battle it out isn't going with a patchwork rotation? They all at least have a future in the organization and could probably perform similarly for a fraction of the cost. If Hughes were to sign cheaply, then I wouldn't be opposed. But I'd imagine we won't be the only team looking at him. To answer the original question, there will always be space for patchwork additions to the rotation. You need 5 guys just to field a team, 7 for much of the season and 8 or 9 in total over the course of a season, barring the rare 5 man 200 inning group. But those don't last even when they do happen. Also, I'm not sure why "all those guys at least have a future in the organization" but a signed Hughes would not. Villanueva is 2 years older. Arrieta is the same age. Any of those guys could be out of baseball in 2 years.
