in some of the country that's true At only some income levels. Organized baseball is cost-prohibitive compared to soccer and football. Wait what. Organized baseball is more costly than organized football? Are we talking flag football? Clearly soccer is the cheapest. But baseball is also pretty cheap for young kids. Football with pads sure isn't cheap, but neither is baseball. You can play a pick-up game of football with one football. Baseball requires a glove for each kid, plus a bat and balls.

And I don't see why he'd be expected to just take over a role he was given at the beginning of camp, when he's on a 1-year deal, has only played like 5 games in 2 years, hasn't practiced in 4 weeks, and is competing with a high draft pick who can potentially stay in that role for the next 10 years. Same reason why McClellin is listed as co-starter with Wootton at DE. How is that the same reason? McClellin isn't a rookie, and he wasn't a mid-2nd round pick. 50 overall is hardly a time where you assume the guy will start from day one, especially at a position like MLB. I think it's quite likely that the coaching staff is not comfortable starting the rookie from the first game and are anxious to find an opportunity to insert a veteran into that slot, even if there is little expectation that Williams starts 16 games there.

Well, they were never in a situation where jettisoning him was an option, or even close to a necessity. But there was very little point in giving him this extension at this time.

Kids have football now? Now? Unless you grew up in NYC prior to the 60's football has been at the forefront for a very long time. Most probably start playing baseball at a younger age, but America's youth has been playing football, and futbol, in very large numbers for a very long time.

In a change of pace from most inter-office rivalries, we actually have a Bengals fan here who seems quite confident they are super bowl bound. He's not a douche about it or anything but I don't like giving away this many points in the first game under this system.

Hardin was a terrible pick at the time because of where they selected a guy that nobody cared about who did not play the year before. You have to get something out of third rounders. It remains to be seen if Emery will do a better job. Early indications are that maybe he's better at finding potential impact out of top of the draft guys, and potentially not as good at finding value in the middle rounds. -

I want him to sell tickets or something like that next year to pay the team back for the 5.5M he stole. Come on. I imagine the Cubs recouped most of his salary in insurance. Besides that he didn't steal anything. What makes you think they were able to insure most of a $5.5m contract for a guy going through rehab? What idiotic insurance company would underwrite that?
