  1. well the cubs are already a day ahead of that pace and I gotta feeling things have already started to turn around for us.
  2. Has to be a pretty clear "let's throw this out there and see what happens" account, no?
  3. TV market would be Chicagoland area, just like the Jets/Giants tv market is the NY metropolitan area. From a which state do these teams play in standpoint, it would be Indiana just like the Jets/Giants play in New Jersey.
  4. Seriously, all the whining about being picked on and not having your hand held gently along the way is just silly.
  5. It's not that it makes you not post, but the majority of the time it isn't necessary. Most of the time, approaching a post from the position of, "That's wrong, and here's why..." is just as effective as, "ZOMG, you're such an idiot, and here's why..." Telling someone they're dumb is not necessary. Effectively break down their argument and they'll probably realize their post was dumb on their own. Well, the latter takes a lot more effort and this isn't a job, it's a time wasting device.
  6. Or we could try to correct those uninformed opinions. Let's not pretend that we don't enjoy when a meatball comes on here spouting ignorance and we all jump in to get our licks in. This exactly. As someone who has been reading these boards for years as an outsider, I can tell you there are obviously a bunch of smart posters here. But among those posters, there's a fairly sharp divide between the ones who use their knowledge to correct meatball-ish opinions and who actually do challenge you to think more critically about statistical analysis...and those who are just chomping at the bit to obliterate you with a scarcastic response and a snarky gif. I think everyone drifts into that territory from time to time (and maybe rightly so sometimes) but some people live there and it can be quite offputting to infrequent/non-posters. Just the two cents of someone kind of on the outside looking in. Exactly, they created the environment and have been living in it for so long they can't even recognize when they are being A-holes. *shrug* it is what it is. plenty here worth reading on a daily basis. that's what keeps me here. **wtf did the "!'s" come from Can you tell when you are being a whiny baby?
  7. nope are you playing the "Giants/Jets play in NJ" game? Not playing a game. Those two teams play in New Jersey. Nobody would claim a Chicago Bears team playing in Indiana was an Illinois team.
  8. No one is going to be doing lines of coke or having sex in the bleachers if that's what your worried about. There's an occasional fight but highly unlikely on a weekday afternoon. Mostly just some language and possibly NSF kids heckling at the opposing OFers. Maybe a boob
  9. if you are very conservative/religious, you will be offended. But it's not that crazy and I think most 14 year olds can deal with what's out there.
  10. Gotta love a game when the Cubs can win but Jackson cannot. Maybe he'll get one tomorrow.
  11. I get back from softball and we're still in the 4th? This team is more like Boston than I ever thought. Hope they have chicken and beer in the clubhouse.
  12. Of course Sahadev Sharma has a vaguer quote: If it was a serious injury I would expect the response to such a question to be something to the effect of we haven't made a decision.
  13. Mark Gonzales ‏@MDGonzales · 4m Hoyer - "we'll be active."
  14. There was a purge? site got hacked and basically everything like pre-2005 or so was lost, including tree's awesome nomar trade ms paint O yeah, I remember that. *sigh*BTW I thought these boards had also been around a lot longer than 2003. Seems lik much longer than that, I'm pretty sure there were conversations here durning 98 and even 93 ... Maybe I'm losing my mind, quite possible were you at espn, or cubs.com?
  15. There is not a single person laughing at the Dodgers in this thread. I mean, at least wait for something remotely resembling that sort of thing before going straight to this tired bit. I guess if you go so far as to separate the GM from the team, this could be true. One person made an off hand remark about Colletti overpaying before saying a 'low-A lottery ticket sounds about right' after the return(a PTBNL) came up. Another person made the factual statement that Colletti looks like Bernie from Weekend at Bernies. If that isn't saying "lol Dodgers, sure glad we aren't doing things like THEM!", then I don't know what is. So nothing remotely resembling that sort of thing, right? not for nothing but the original post also noted how there are several threads on this board where people have ridiculed the Dodgers for their stupidity while just winning and winning. But the important thing is making sure nobody criticizes the Cubs for losing all the time.
  16. I could see a misguided sycophant latching on to the notion that Almora was Theo/Jed/McCleod's first love and that Baez was a carry over and therefore not their guy. Add in all the character attributes accorded to each and it makes sense, for an idiot like Haugh.
