  1. Is Magadan an appropriate comp though. He was a part-time player who never hit more than 6 HR in a season. Vitters ceiling isn't that low, is it?
  2. Jim Callis doesn't look like I thought he did, and he needs to drink a nice big ice coffee.
  3. DBacks on the clock with 20 seconds to go. ......................... and they take Jarrod Parker RHP HS indiana.
  4. Speaking on not penciling these guys in: 2011 4-Patterson 9-Colvin 7-Soriano 8-Pie 5-Vitters 3-????? 2-????? 6-?????
  5. He won't make the majors for at least 4 years. In 4-5 years Ramirez will probably not be the player he is now, and this could allow the Cubs to let him walk without overpaying an old veteran.
  6. I don't know the full story on Vitters and the biggest detractors. I think part of it is the inherent risk of any high school position player, and the fact that the Cubs are so bad at developing them. I think there are significant questions as to his upside, with many suggesting that if everythign works out, he'll be a mediocre 3B. I don't have a strong opinion either way, but I would have preferred the best college hitter myself.
  7. So, for all those who are convinced Vitters will bust, what would he have to do by the end of 2008 to change your mind? Harvey put up this line one year after being drafted: .264/.327/.481 in short season. By the time he reached low A, 2 years after being drafted he crapped out with a 257/.302/.484 with 24BB and 137K. Do you think Vitters can be in Peoria by next season? If he is in Peoria and puts up something like .280/.350/480, with 60BB and 100K, do you start to have hope? Is that even possible?
  8. Cubs fans are never happy. The Cubs could win the World Series and there would still be complaining going on here. No, there wouldn't. Cubs fans are never happy because the Cubs never do the right thing and never win. QFT. I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be much complaining going on if the Cubs just won the World Series. OK. So I exaggerated. I still made my point though. And what was that point, that Cubs fans insatiable appetite for greatness means they will never be satisfied and always complaining? You are describing Yankees fans. Cubs fans complain with justification.

  10. They'll tweak it. I enjoy being able to see these guys and here them talk about it.
  11. good call. they're probably espn interns. or some unemployed Jets fans they collected at the last minute. there are employed jet fans? The Jets fan I know best just quit his job, so maybe not.
  12. per ESPN's request. you really think it takes the NFL teams all 10 minutes to make their picks? No way, but ESPN has to get their highlight reels and talking heads air time between picks NFL teams negotiate possible trades during their time though. Why was Price hanging out with Dusty Baker?
  13. Those deep seated chairs are awful. Who thought that was a good idea for analysts to sit-in on TV?
  14. I was literally seconds from posting the same thing. Uh, hay Zim, this is when you write something down. He could have been officially signing the card or something.
  15. Sadly I had already considered Hendry doing something like this. And thankfully there's a great chance this is Hendry's last year. But if the sale takes time to go through, that will delay the overhaul, potentially leaving Hendry in charge of decision making during the free agency period.
  16. With a 12 man staff, 2-3 appearances per week from one guy is not going to overtax anybody else. True. But don't you think at some point the organization will come to its senses and revert to an 11-man staff? No. They've been doing it this way for years. They seem to prefer it. Whenever they go to 11 man briefly, they quickly go back to 12. The only way I could see them go back to 11 is if the starters consistently go 6+ strong and 5 of the relievers start pitching really well, consistently.

  18. Hunter isn't even all that good. He's better than the Cubs RFers, but you're talking about a steep price to pay for a 4 month rental, and there's no way you want to sign him to the extension he'll get. He's a soon-to-be 32 year old with a lifetime OPS+ of 104 and severe OBP issues. This isn't somebody the Cubs need.
  19. Sullivan doesn't seem like the type who is going to go back an acknowledge something like this based on letters from readers. He's also probably not a fan of the site, if he knows anything about it and all the negative things said about him.
