  1. Miller or Dope off the 60-man. Z - DL/trade Eyre - DFA/trade Marmol/Guzman/Wuertz - sent to AAA (not likely) some random pitcher to the DL some out of nowhere trade
  2. I can't imagine them pulling anybody from the rotation, unless Zambrano has been traded or is injured. I could definitely see them putting him in the bullpen, even if he doesn't have experience there.
  3. There was some sort of dive sports bar I really enjoyed going to after Game 5. Probably not worth it during the regular season. I remember the park was pretty nice, but can't think of anything you need to eat.
  4. That's the problem. They spent a decade building the organization around the theory of stockpiling arms and then trading the surplus for bats when needed. And it's failed them miserably. They need to think of a way to start drafting and developing their own bats, and stop thinking pitching is the only thing.
  5. I think the problem he has is his comparisons were called pointless, which was completely unnecessary. I think Goony could have made his point without the condescending remark. I don't see how that is condescending. There was no point to comparing Kroeger to Hunter and Howard.
  6. Rusch Rusch Rusch Rusch Rusch Rusch Rusch Word sensor at work. big fat sloppy [expletive] little perky [expletive] rock hard fake [expletive]

  8. Victor was acquired by Jim Duquette, before Omar was hired.
  9. This is all pointless nonsense. A good team could very easily plug in a player like him into LF. If he's an .800+OPS player, then sure - but he won't bat in a run producing spot until if & when he shows himself to be that kind of player. If he's hitting like he is now, they can do it only if they can absorb the offense elsewhere. LF is not where you put complementary players. He's already shown that he is that kind of player.
  10. I don't understand how that makes their lineup any more impressive considering he hasn't been good this year. Their lineup is very Cubs like, with more homeruns. I don't think I'd call it all that impressive.
  11. Ryan Howard got a cup of coffee in 2004 at age 24. He split his age 25 season at AAA and the majors, and stuck in the majors at 26. He was also highly productive as he moved up the minor league ladder. He didn't repeat levels and advanced at a solid pace. This Kroeger character repeated high A, and washed out at AAA after playing there in 2004, 2005 and 2006, and getting worse each year. His age matters because it's only now, as he approaches 25, that he's putting up these numbers after a demotion back to AA. It would be insane to suggest he has to be an upgrade to Murton. Torii Hunter was in the majors by 22. He didn't stick until 25, but he got numerous shots before then. You comparisons are pointless. as are most if not all of your "observations". Well, at least you explained why. just my opinion. why argue with a man who knows everything there is to know about baseball? Who knows everything? All I know is Kroeger is a terrible comparison for Howard and Hunter.
  12. Theriot is hitting .266/.330/.337. Color me unimpressed. Theriot has 39 more AB than Izturis, who was supposedly our starting SS coming out of ST. Riot is getting his playing time. I'd rather have Theriot in the lineup, at least he can drive in a run. Before last night's game Izturis was stuck at 5rbi for the longest time. 6 rbi total from your starting SS is totally unacceptable, even if you are Cesar Izturis. at the risk of sounding like I'm defending Cesar, that's a terrible way to measure a player's performance Agree. Neither player is particularly good. Izturis may have more downside, but Theriot has been pretty bad at times as well.

  14. If the Cubs are not gonna play Murton, maybe they can package him in a deal for Byrnes. Sorinano, Pie, Byrnes is a pretty good outfield. Why would you consider packaging Murton in a deal for Byrnes? If anything, they should get Byrnes plus others for Murton. I wouldn't hold my breath on that.......... Byrnes is what Murton will be if Matt doesn't improve. He's been around for a long time now, is in his 30's, makes millions, and has about 100 OPS+ for his career.
  15. Dusty had the same thing. Lou went out to argue and get thrown out on purpose. He decided to make a scene, to divert attention away from the fight, and admitted it. Lou deserved the suspension, let's move on.

  18. maybe if it was a poll for fav cub ever he'd get some votes. i took him for granted when he was here. i miss him now. you probably took him for granted because he wasn't that good when he was here. Combine the idiotic baserunning and lousy fielding with the disappointing bat, and there wasn't a lot to enjoy about the Moises Alou era. Disappointing bat???? You're kidding right? He hit .293 in 04 with a career high 39 HRs And for the record, he was 8-8 in stolen base attempts in 02, his first year as a Cub. 04 was the last of a 3 year contract. When you sign a big 3 year deal, it helps to produce in the first year if you want people to appreciate what you bring to the table.
  19. Enough for you, but enough for Hendry? Jim got to the point where he was willing to give Neifi away. I'm not so sure he'd do the same with Jacque.
  20. From a marketing standpoint, the timing on such a move couldn't be worse. But as people have pointed out, the entire front office is lame duck, perhaps they don't care so much about the image of the Cubs. They just want to win while they are still there. I wouldn't complain if they traded for him, but I can't fault them if they steer clear.
  21. Is anyone else surprised--like not at all--that Lee would be the only one sticking up for his "coach" and taking some responsibilty. He just appears to be the mature professional who gets all of this!! HE IS A STUD! I had a post after going to a game this spring that D LEE is worth the price of admission and this just cements the respect I have for him. I have not respected a cub like this since Ryno! I think the world of Lee. But I also think Aramis isn't too far behind him as a professional. I really like those two as the anchor of the lineup. They can win with those guys. It's the rest that drag down the team.
  22. You want him to be a superstar? I'm sure everybody does, but that's not realistic. There's nothing wrong with a player not being a superstar. And why can he only play for an average team? A team could go far playing Murton everyday. He gives you above average production for well below average cost.
  23. Did Marshall even have 3 starts like this last year, let alone consecutively. I dont recall. Was Marshall really THAT bad last year? I seem to remember him coming up and pitching pretty well, and then just falling off at the end. Maybe (probably) I'm wrong. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/gamelog?statsId=7718&year=2006 He was up and down. His first two starts stunk. Then he had an okay start, then 3 straight good ones. Terrible/good/terrible/good. He showed promise, had a solid 3 game stretch here and there, but then he'd blow up.
  24. that's who I voted for, with the final straw being the extension for Hendry before he walked out the door. I actually think he did a good job turning around the organization in the 90's, to the point that they were in a position to enjoy great success this decade. But he was the man who hired Lynch, hired, groomed and promoted Hendry, and who ignored the influx of so-called new thinking in baseball. MacPhail set the tone of the organization, and it's the organizational failures that have most plagued the team.
