  1. Well, Soriano and Theriot are hitting 1/2, and Dempster is starting, so you could make a case for putting a check after 7.
  2. At least Soriano turned the roster over for the real leadoff hitter.
  3. My favorite part is he's the number 3 because Rich Hill is left handed.
  4. hahahahahahahaha That is awesome, and very true. I watched some of Tuesday night's game (their first of the freaking season) and the stadium was practically empty. And it was the 8th inning of a 2-1 game. Obviously it was a rescheduled makeup, but still, that struck me as pathetic. Actually it isn't very true. It's not even kind of true. I wish it was, so a message would be sent to ownership. Your practically empty stadium sold 39,000 tickets to that game. Jeff Passan is a bitter KC homer. The game was a delayed start, the forecast called for rain and by the 8th inning it was probably around 45 degrees. Tickets sold and paid attendance doesn't prove one way or another whether a stadium was mostly empty in the 8th inning. Not that I think it's pathetic to be nearly empty in that scenario.
  5. I like Theriot as well, and if he hits 8th that's fine with me. I don't know why he's the scapegoat right now, I don't see Mr. 136 Million Dollar man with a single hit. I guess its cause he's not leading off? How about our "#2" pitcher giving up 5 runs? I'd like to think about why we lost, and it wasn't all on Theriot, not even close. Theriot takes heat because he isn't good, but the GM and manager screwed up by giving him the role he's currently in. Is that fair? Maybe not, but if I went out there and pitched, I would expect people to be really pissed, because I've done nothing to deserve the job and shouldn't be there. It has nothing to do with an 0-2 start. Theriot isn't the scapegoat for the first two games. It's completely dishonest to pretend that's the motivation behind the so-called anti Theriot talk. Most Cubs fans want the Cubs to field the best possible team, and they know Jim Hendry has done a poor job doing that. Ryan Theriot is currently the most glaring example of that failure, and is therefore going to take heat for it. How hard he tries is meaningless. This isn't little league, it's professional baseball with the expectations that come along with people paying to watch professionals.
  6. I'm on board with this thinking.....Cubs 5-3...book it! I'll be shocked if Dempster holds them to 3 runs. If he does that, we'll win. 5 innings 3 runs is fairly realistic.
  7. Can't you put a reminder in your blackberry? I just hit dismiss.
  8. is now too early? I listened to the Blackhawks game last night, turned it off and said to myself, "hey, bring that to work tomorrow." And I still forgot the freaking thing.
  9. Yeah, why hasn't Hendry grabbed one of those guys? The question is - Why hasn't the completely ineffective Hendry administration developed any guys like that? It has. The problem is,somewhere along the line, they decide that they want to be power hitters. Yeah, it all makes sense now. Corey Patterson didn't become Grady Sizemore because he didn't want to slap the ball into the ground enough. I know you're being sarcsstic, but you're not far off. Corey has the same talent, athleticism, and ability, but he was more worried about knocking every pitch into orbit than slap the ball on the ground or work the count in his favor. That's a bunch of nonsense.
  10. Is that true? On a KR he's got more time and space to plot his course. Punt coverage can be on you when you catch the ball.
  11. Can somebody remind me to bring my freaking XM to work tomorrow.
  12. You of all people on this board should not be making something I say into a racial argument. And I know for a fact from your wishing bad things on him last year that you don't like Neifi one bit. Que? He's my roommate and I would hope by now he knows I'm not a racist. I would think he was joking but even joking on that topic I don't like. Also a large majority of you guys wouldn't know he's joking. Ok. Now can you explain what made Neifi lazy and stupid when he was here? He was bad at baseball, but I don't remember him being lazy or particularly stupid. I remember him putting on weight in his last stint and complaining about crap. I don't remember specific examples, it's been too long. I don't think there is a clear cut obvious example I just remember when he was on the team complaining about him not giving full effort if he was pouting about playing time. I don't remember that. I do remember he sucked though. I'd take Theriot over him, but I Theriot isn't any good either and really needs to be replaced.
  13. I agree that he doesn't only look for OBP and patience. But he does look for players he believes are undervalued. I would think he believes Murton is undervalued by the Cubs. That said, Murton's has more service time than Beane would probably want in a player, given that the As aren't contending. Probably, but when you look at Beane's tendency to trade for an undervalued asset, build up his value and then trade him for more than he spent (like with closers), Murton could be an ideal candidate. If Beane feels Murton could fit right in and be a solid starting outfielder, he could get him for cheap, play him for 150 games, then trade him next offseason. That way, he's gone before he becomes expensive but after he shows he belongs.
  14. That's only because you were his biggest fan.
  15. I think you have to be realistic to know Hester isn't likely to have the mental capacity to be an every-down receiver. Certainly not a #1. The kid is pure instinct, he's perfect for the kick return game. Lovie is convincing himself otherwise because this ballclub has failed to produce or acquire a good receiver. It's not a good sign. Not good at all. It doesn't take genius to be an impact receiver. Jerry Rice may have been the most heady guy out there, but physical gifts are more important than anything else out there. Muhsin's greatest asset was his size and his head, but neither Randy Moss nor TO are dominating through thought.
  16. No kidding. Lovie plans on using Hester less frequently on returns (and more frequently in passing game), so Davis is going to be "needed" there. This is another mistake, IMO. This ballclub is tanking before our very eyes. I don't think it's a mistake. Returning can take it's toll. And let's not forget that Hester is prone to the dumbdumbs on many returns. He's great, no doubt, but I think he can be just as great while taking a few less kicks, and getting more involved in the passing game.

  18. I guess Soriano's legs are back to 100%, because that was the nonsensical excuse for the move in the first place.
  19. 1. Not good. 2. Disappointing. 3. Annoying. 4. Not a big deal to me. 5. Don't see the point in trying. Ramirez isn't scoring on a double, and best case scenario is 1st and 3rd. 6. Don't know, only followed gameday. 7. I saw a guy walking out of his building with a Brewers hat this morning while I was walking my dog. Considered saying something but was too tired. 8. The vast majority are inconsistent and unreliable. 9. Because they are hideous.
  20. They already try, and it's easier said than done.
  21. The forceout rule was a Cardinals game? Isn't that a relatively frequent call? A friend of mine hates that one and will be happy. I think it's probably a good thing to overturn. It tended to get called once or twice a week' date=' so frequent but not likely in any particular game. Most of the time it didn't generate much controversy, even if most fans didn't particularly like it. There was a game earlier in the year though where on the last play of the game under the rules a forceout should have been called in the end zone, but it wasn't. That caused the team to lose the game. It generated a lot of buzz, and I'm not surprised that the forceout rule came into question the year after that particular game. The NFL is a very reactionary league on many of their rules.[/quote'] True, but that's not necessarily bad, at least in this case.
  22. Please, please try not to be absurd. I appreciate the sentiments wolf, but I came into this season doubting that. How are we so amazingly talented? Just because every TV baseball person says it doesn't mean its true. Yeah I'm not getting it either. We have some good players and some really bad ones too. I never agreed with the predictions being heaped on us from the beginning. We've always had a very solid chance of being unseated by the Brewers. That was true until the final couple days of last season, and it remains true now. It should be decent ballclub. I don't see greatness here, on the whole. They should still be able to match last seasons win total and maybe flirt with 90. Which basically is what you said.

  24. You can't make anymore. I wish they were 2-0.
