  1. He took 2-3 steps off the mound towards the 1B line and then bent over after each of the the first 2 outs. He didn't "nearly walk off the field." In al honesty, it was far more reserved than how he used to flip out on the mound over each out. And again, since when do we begrudge a team for celebrating a walkoff? Everyone does it, no matter when the game is. It was more than 2-3 steps. I'm not begrudging anything. I just said that combined with Valverde's over the top antics and whoever it was clapping himself up to first on the walk, it was a bit much.
  2. Losing to Assblows is one thing but, their acting like they just won the WS is really annoying most especially on the back of dribblers through the infield. In addition to the Cubs winning the WS I'd like to see them: 1. Beat Randy Johnson 2. Beat the incongruous blob known as Valverde in a save situation Sour grapes. What team doesn't celebrate when they get a walkoff win? Teams celebrate, but to that extent? And in the same game you had Pence (or whoever it was) clap his way down the first base line on a walk and Valverde nearly walk off the field on the first out of an inning? That was quite over-the-top. Doesn't Crazy Eyes always do weird things like that every outing? He does it all the time and against everybody so I don't see the point in complaining about him. He does stuff, but nearly walking off the field seemed a bit exaggerated.
  3. LOL What? It's been two games and he had an RBI last night. But we're supposed to ignore the fact that he was, in fact, a factor and decide that he's been a non-factor after two days? By that logic Soriano, despite his two homers thus far, has sucked this year. Well, if a guy sucks, then he's a factor, a negative factor. Being a non-factor suggests you haven't sucked or stood out in a positive fashion. 1 RBI in 2 games, on pace for an 81 RBI season, fits that. I guess.

  5. As Cubs fans we can't imagine why anybody would want to be a Yankee, let alone live in that city. I'm a Cubs fan who doesn't understand why some people can't understand why a person would want to be a Yankee or live in NYC. Seriously, go to NYC and the odds of winning skyrocket, plus, you'll make more money than anywhere else. And to be a Yankee consult, you don't even have to live in NY if you don't want. Lou can stay in his hometown and be a high ranking Yankees official. Doesn't he have a house in Tampa or something? Close to where the Yankees either have offices or spring training? Yes, that is what I meant. He managed Tampa supposedly because he wanted to return home. Tampa is a huge Yankees haven.
  6. anybody have any offensive line and/or cornerback suggestions?
  7. http://www.chicagobears.com/multimedia/multimediapopup.asp?mm_file_id=1406&play_clip=Y&rn=9 The cheesy background music makes me weepy.
  8. No. why not? i think he's got a great chance. assuming he plays 6 more years which would make him 39 at retirement, so you could easily argue he plays more than that, he basically needs 5 leadoff homers per year. that's realistic. He'll get worse as he gets older. This is just like the "Sosa can average 40 HRs a year until he's 40" projections we used to hear all the time. And he won't be a leadoff hitter forever. Well, it's not like the Cubs have a clear cut favorite to replace him at leadoff, now or in the pipeline. And if they've already given up on the idea of lots of stolen bases or very high OBP at leadoff, there's no reason why they'd have to move him. But they probably will long before he breaks that record.
  9. You can explain all you want, but after being okay to start (although he gave up a run in his first outings and Lou is all about first impressions) he sucked the rest of the way. His numbers with the Cubs were awful, and they continued into this spring. There's no explaining around that. Why does it have to stop? Because you don't want to hear it? Too bad. I'm not speculating about anything, I'm just repeating what was reported at the time. Chad had a mysterious back injury that people who followed the team said was the result of a drunken evening.
  10. Outs on the basepaths.
  11. I thought the NFL cancelled the draft after the Bears traded for Cutler. Um, I have no idea, give me a little bit.
  12. I watched the game and was into it last night but this is still what I'm most excited about. I have to try and not think about it for fear of being completely useless using my brain for anything else.
  13. Steve? Art? Gordie? Or are you speaking native american?
  14. Zambrano starting the season with an era under 7. Soto still being alive.
  15. I think his antics are effective when he plays how he has played with the Rangers. When he was on LA and Dallas (didn't see him much on Detroit so can't say) he wasn't very effective - he just instigated and caused chaos. Generally as a Ranger he has been pretty effective, but still crosses that line sometimes. How effective has he been? Aren't the Rangers on the verge of missing the playoffs? I stumbled onto tickets through work for Thursday's game against Philly. Yea but Avery is the only reason they're still even in the hunt. Since he came back they've been pretty damn good. But since he came back, haven't they fallen from like a 5/6 seed to tied for 8th?
  16. Pry? That's a new one for me. Are we really getting that lazy? First probably gets shortened to prolly, and now pry? Is it really that hard to type out the other 5 letters of the word? Why are people so pretentious about grammar and spelling around here? Pretentious?

  20. Pissing off Cubs fans is dead easy if you play for the Cubs. Then why can't Soto or Marmol figure it out?
  21. You can get a blown save if you come into a bases loaded no out situation and get three straight outs. It's a measure, but it's not all that good. Sometimes good relief pitchers blow a fair chunk of saves. Brad Lidge blew a bunch one year and was a great closer the very next year on a world series champ, with very similar numbers each season. That said, Gregg isn't very good. He's probably going to piss off Cubs fans a lot this year.
