  2. No. why not? i think he's got a great chance. assuming he plays 6 more years which would make him 39 at retirement, so you could easily argue he plays more than that, he basically needs 5 leadoff homers per year. that's realistic. He'll get worse as he gets older. This is just like the "Sosa can average 40 HRs a year until he's 40" projections we used to hear all the time. And he won't be a leadoff hitter forever. Well, it's not like the Cubs have a clear cut favorite to replace him at leadoff, now or in the pipeline. And if they've already given up on the idea of lots of stolen bases or very high OBP at leadoff, there's no reason why they'd have to move him. But they probably will long before he breaks that record.
  3. You can explain all you want, but after being okay to start (although he gave up a run in his first outings and Lou is all about first impressions) he sucked the rest of the way. His numbers with the Cubs were awful, and they continued into this spring. There's no explaining around that. Why does it have to stop? Because you don't want to hear it? Too bad. I'm not speculating about anything, I'm just repeating what was reported at the time. Chad had a mysterious back injury that people who followed the team said was the result of a drunken evening.
  4. Outs on the basepaths.
  5. I thought the NFL cancelled the draft after the Bears traded for Cutler. Um, I have no idea, give me a little bit.
  6. I watched the game and was into it last night but this is still what I'm most excited about. I have to try and not think about it for fear of being completely useless using my brain for anything else.
  7. Steve? Art? Gordie? Or are you speaking native american?
  8. Zambrano starting the season with an era under 7. Soto still being alive.
  9. I think his antics are effective when he plays how he has played with the Rangers. When he was on LA and Dallas (didn't see him much on Detroit so can't say) he wasn't very effective - he just instigated and caused chaos. Generally as a Ranger he has been pretty effective, but still crosses that line sometimes. How effective has he been? Aren't the Rangers on the verge of missing the playoffs? I stumbled onto tickets through work for Thursday's game against Philly. Yea but Avery is the only reason they're still even in the hunt. Since he came back they've been pretty damn good. But since he came back, haven't they fallen from like a 5/6 seed to tied for 8th?
  10. Pry? That's a new one for me. Are we really getting that lazy? First probably gets shortened to prolly, and now pry? Is it really that hard to type out the other 5 letters of the word? Why are people so pretentious about grammar and spelling around here? Pretentious?

  14. Pissing off Cubs fans is dead easy if you play for the Cubs. Then why can't Soto or Marmol figure it out?
  15. You can get a blown save if you come into a bases loaded no out situation and get three straight outs. It's a measure, but it's not all that good. Sometimes good relief pitchers blow a fair chunk of saves. Brad Lidge blew a bunch one year and was a great closer the very next year on a world series champ, with very similar numbers each season. That said, Gregg isn't very good. He's probably going to piss off Cubs fans a lot this year.
  16. As Cubs fans we can't imagine why anybody would want to be a Yankee, let alone live in that city. I'm a Cubs fan who doesn't understand why some people can't understand why a person would want to be a Yankee or live in NYC. Seriously, go to NYC and the odds of winning skyrocket, plus, you'll make more money than anywhere else. And to be a Yankee consult, you don't even have to live in NY if you don't want. Lou can stay in his hometown and be a high ranking Yankees official.
  17. Joey Gathwright, getting more and more playing time as Fuku struggles, and health.
  18. The game was in Cincinnati. Then why did he leave Harang standing in the rain in New York? Huh. That is strange. Dusty is incompetent and rude.
  19. A mediocre impatient outfielder with marginal power and shaky defense who is about to turn 34 years old. How hard could it be to figure out what happened to him? He's not good and now he's old.
  20. Heilman is 1.33 career and 1.59 last year, and people insist that he's got great stuff. Clement's WHIP was always high despite great "stuff". I don't think a high WHIP corrrelates to lesser stuff. at least those guys were posting those whips in the big leagues. 6th starter and middle relief types are just too inconsistent to make much of their numbers. I'm surprised they cut Gaudin, and doubtful about Patton's ability to do better, but who knows. Neither is going to be special. Go with the hot hand if you can.
  21. That's why you have to look at % of capacity, not the raw attendance numbers. I think they lead in that category too, for what it's worth. It will take a sustained period of winning and marketing to grow a generation of fans. The team had the sustained winning in the 70s-90s, but all along there was a general disdain for the customer and no real effort to win, as evidenced by Dollar Bill's famous quote that a Stanley Cup was "too expensive." This franchise is planting seeds now that will really show results in 20 years. Yeah, if they get knocked out in the first round and then take a step back next year, the progress will have proven to be minimal. It's going to take a while.
  22. He wasn't worth the pick, but it's hard to define his career as a bust. He's still around and was productive last season. This isn't Curtis Enis. He's already surpassed both those guys as a player. The problem was taking the 3rd RB in the draft at the #4 spot, and thinking a guy who was not going to be spectacular, but if everything works out well, a steady presence, so high. Benson was like the Orton of running backs. He put up some solid college numbers, but was never spectular. He could be a solid pro running back, but nobody you want to throw millions at.
